The people who stayed have saved the community when BCWF ABANDONED THEM!!! the stopping of local efforts will be catastrophic! They are working with the firefighters and are not getting in the way! This is not a 9 to 5 affair! It is ongoing and we need all hands on deck!!
If you were in the decision making process of BCWFS what would you have done ? Fire jumps the lake, shuts down Western Canada’s major trucking lane, encroaching on Sorrento… Do you live there ? Did you fire smart your property ? Have you ever fought wildfires ? What mitigation strategies did you have in place considering the arid climate of the entire area of Shuswap. Did you encourage or participate in community awareness programs and planning ? Seeing a lot of Angry, resentful comments which seem way out of line
Yes I live there, fire started my property and first hand witnessed the fire break the "control burn" barrier. There were no BCWF at the scene at midnight on Thursday! And when they left at 5 they said it was of no concern. 10 hours later we were devastated. Risked my life and my children driving through an engulfed highway of flames. At this point they still hadn't even issued evacuation for celista. They should be present and maning the bridge. Ok no one should ever have taken anything, this is wrong but desperate times lead to desperate measures
We need air support now! The AQI is 3 times better than it was. I'm here with boots on the ground. The visibility is several miles. We needs support to get the lightning strikes out!
