Janmashtami is a profoundly significant day, for it marks the appearance of the most amazing incarnation of the Lord. While there have been numerous incarnations of the Lord, their usual activities typically involve vanquishing adversaries. However, Krishna’s primary mission is to teach and spread love. Vishnu usually wields His divine weapon, the Sudarshana Chakra, with just one finger to kill evil. Yet, when He is about to teach love, He uses all of His ten fingers to play His flute. During the festival of Janmashtami, we celebrate the awakening of love within our hearts. Only when love overflows from our hearts and spills out to spread the Krishna consciousness movement, can we truly celebrate Janmashtami. To cultivate love within our hearts, we must possess two qualities: a genuine desire to bring joy to others and a disposition of immense generosity and respect.
