Happens often here. The entire northern Nt outside of Darwin is virtually 30 degree swamp land so storms can often maintain themselves.

The 2023-24 AUST season, while yet another inactive season, it has featured some notable cyclones of their own. Jasper was the most impactful one, despite weakening before landfall. It's also the most intense one of the season. Other notable landfalling cyclones include Kirrily and Megan. Other notable cyclones include Anggrek, Neville, and Olga. On a side note, the WMO has approved the BOM's request to retire Jasper, along with Kirrily and Megan. They're replaced by Juilan, Kima, and Merryn.

1. no, it wasn even a c5 SSHWS 2. cyclone ilsa, yasi, debbie, larry, ita, trevor, tracy, veronica, and many mire were category 4 and 5 cyclones (very extreme) which struck australia.
