Isn't Poor Things British? Yorgos lives in England. Dicaprio and De Niro are not vunerable. DeGOATfoe has always been neglected by the Oscars. Platoon was his closest chance to winning.
I kinda don't want Dominic Sesa to be nominated for the Oscar since he will feel like he always will have to top himself too early in his career. Im just looking out since im exited for his career.
Just found out that they had a separate acting category for the international films and Sandra Huller was in the Best International Actress category, so they actually did nominate her, but they couldn't put her in the actual best actress category, because of the rules set in place. So i wouldn't worry about Sandra Huller at all!
I just realized something: the cast and crew of KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON could set a slew of Oscar records if nominated. They include: - A Best Picture nomination allowing Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio to become joint recordholders for most credited appearances in Best Picture nominees (it'll be the 11th credited film for each) (note that it'll actually be the 12th for De Niro, but he was uncredited in AMERICAN HUSTLE). - Martin Scorsese becoming only the 2nd ever person with 10 or more Directing nominations (and the oldest one ever nominated as well) - Thelma Schoonmaker having the most Best Editing nominations (and also the category's oldest ever nominee) - Eric Roth tying the record for most Adapted Screenplay nominations (with Billy Wilder) - Lily Gladstone becoming the first woman of Native American descent to receive a Best Actress nomination
@@gfrjonny what makes Scorsese’s case particularly notable is that - if nominated for KOTFM - it’ll be the 7th Director nomination since turning 60. He is basically the Directing equivalent of Dame Judi Dench (all of Dench’s 8 acting nominations came after turning 63).
@@axr7149 Thats wild, and even more impressive by Marty. Hes not getting any younger but still incredibly sharp (unless his assist team is doing alot of heavy lifting). He might have one more in him before retirement.
@@showbizroxs at present yes (he was 82 at the time). Thelma Schoonmaker will surpass him if nominated (nominations will be announced after her 84th birthday). Schoonmaker and Kahn are currently the joint recordholders for most Editing noms, which Thelma will also surpass if nominated.
Just saw Saltburn - Barry is amazing. He's becoming one of my favorite actors to watch. He so fully inhabits the roles he takes on. Really happy he's getting some noms, since his role is probably too ... uh... out there for the academy. Also just saw KOFM - DeNiro & Gladstone were fabulous. Leo was... good. I'll be more upset about DeNiro missing than I would be if Leo is out. Air? meh.
National Board of Review also came out this week: Big wins for Killers, Holdovers and Poor Things. Shut outs for May December and The Color Purple (not even Best Ensemble).
I reluctantly removed Spiderverse from my list for the first time in November… but you better believe that it’s going straight back on there now that I’ve been given this flicker of hope
Crunchyroll has been trying a lot to show Suzume to voters and etc. They hosted a "retrospective" event with the movie's director at the Academy Museum of Motion Picture + released it a second time in theaters a month ago. While there's still a good chance it misses the animated category I wouldn't exactly dismiss it so easily yet.
i think most would definitely say its in their top 5 best animated of the year, shame that anime films aren't recognized unless its their lord and savior miyazaki
@@marcochen9117Though there is still hope. ONE anime film has been nominated for the Oscar that wasn’t by Miyazaki or anyone at Studio Ghibli: Mirai. That was by Mamoru Hosada (Summer Wars, Wolf Children, Belle).
@@Little1Cave sadly mirai didn't really stand a chance against spiderverse, but Wolf Chilren would've absolutely won for 2013 where Brave won and the runner up being wreck it ralph. The other nominees are simply nonexistent.
@@Little1Cave still really surprised that NONE of makoto shinkais have been nominated, despite being the strongest anime film director outside of miyazaki the last ten years. He also has a big western audience. Just comes down to lack of screenings for the critics i think
@@percyvincent5252 The Top 20 movies in the race for Visual Effects Oscar were announced today and Oppenheimer isn't in there so it won't get nominated for that category. A big surprise considering many people like The Oscar Expert had it in their Top 5.
@@brijanwilson1888 On Golderby I'm one of the few that didn't have it in my top 5, but top 10. The VFX branch are very focused on the most effects, Oppie was extremely minimal. They literally snubbed EEAO last year. What's amusing however is how weak the top 20 are compared to most years. That's what happens when Dune 2 got delayed.
I haven't seen Poor Things yet so I can't comment on Emma Stone's performance, but so far, Sandra Huller has given by far my favourite leading performance of the year. If she gets snubbed, I'll be pissed
@@thrawncaedusl717Decision to Leave is a Asian film, whereas Anatomy is a European film. So it will easily get nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Screenplay.
@@tweentycenturyrock I think the problem is more with it being an international “thriller” with no major names, so significant parts of the Academy won’t see it. After Parasite, I’m a bit dubious of the idea that European films (non-English) have any advantage over Asian films. I could be wrong (either under-estimating the Academy’s willingness to watch non-English films, or underestimating how racist they are), but I truly think Anatomy is dead.
@@thrawncaedusl717Decision to Leave did not win the Palme and did not have a good US distributor to campaign for awards. Also Anatomy is way more accessible as a film. They are not comparable whatsoever to me.
@@ktom5262 ok but look at some of the shit they nominate and the categories it’s hard to take them that seriously. they also aren’t like a major indicator even if they’ve managed to predict some over the years
For the longest time, I’ve felt like predictors have underestimated “Dance the Night” for Best Song, and it could VERY well get nominated instead of “I’m Just Ken”.
with how woke and vulgar it was, i wouldnt be surprised. the government supports all these difernet lifestyytyle choices and that movie is right up the alley with that
@@kassiogomes8498 obviously not but the government promotes and tries to normalize homosexuality so when these movies come out the voters and audience is more likely to tolerate it and see it for how sinful and hateful it is
No one is talking about the fact that John Wick 4 has been getting nominations in sound in a few places now. I’m hoping it gets in at the Oscars. I think that had the best sound after Oppenheimer this year.
Spiderman acorss the spider verse i'm still in denial about it's Best Picture chances until PGA. I'm sorry, I still think the academy as a bias towards animation and superheroes at large. Not saying it's not impossible, but children's cartoon based on a superhero, that is Part 1 feels kind of like an ask for the older and a lot of the hardcore cinephile members.
I’m very concerned, I don’t know if Zone of Interest is gonna happen this year. It’s best shot as y’all pointed out is it needs to do well at BAFTAs and it doesn’t come out in the UK till February 🥴🫠
In seeing as I have no clue when the next video will come out, I will use this comments section to discuss my thoughts on VFX and Song as they're on my mind. Wish I believe is Dead in the water with song, as most people's biggest issue with that film is the songs. So maybe Peaches could have a chance. I'm also a Nintendo stan, just let me have this. With VFX, I'm going full crazy and placing my chips on Godzilla Minus One winning. With Oppenheimer not eligible and the Creator being just ok., Godzilla could win as it's freaking exploding right now. Heck if Japan went with Godzilla for international feature, it might have been nominated there. IF the multiverse is real, there is a universe where that happens. But that's just a theory. A FILM THEOR-
Will you have an nbr reaction and globe predictions? Also Chicago critics are today. Could probably wrap it into one video. Not to tell you guys what videos to make 😂. Just thinking out loud
If you’re a critics group and you want to award the best movies of the year, why do you only nominate movies that get sent to you as screeners, and if you didn’t watch them as a screener you don’t nominate them? Maybe we’re giving awards bodies too much credit if they start snubbing people like blunt and De Niro
Lily Gladstone deserves all she gets and much, much more. I directed her a couple years back after she completed work on KOTM and she was the kindest and most humble actress who brought total commitment and power to every frame.
Gentlemen, I took DeNiro and DiCaprio out of my predictions as soon as I saw the film. Neither character has an arc; Ernest and William are the same people at the beginning of the film as they are at the end. They are both excellent in KOTFM but in such a competitive year I think they both just miss.
So who will be the out of nowhere nomination this year who gets ignored by the critics and shows up on Oscar morning like Judi Dench was for Belfast or Andrea Reisborough was for To Leslie?
Since there are extra categories for international actor/actress/director I guess they are not eligible for the other actor/actress/director catgories.
Charles Melton is getting an Oscar nomination this year. It might be at the expense of one or both of the Poor Things guys. But he's starting to look pretty strong. I think early on it was easy to assume that De Niro and Dicaprio were a given - they are both previous winners, great actors and gave a great performance. What is happening now though, is that all of the 'Oscar' movies are starting to come out and now people have more films and performances to choose from. If you want to add some new favorites into the mix, you gotta throw some of the other ones away. I think that is why we're seeing them miss here, along with Ruffalo and DaFoe. They wanted Barry Keoghan, Dominic Sessa and Colman Domingo in there.
I really dont understand why you guys get excited for some snubs (like from the best film of the year KOTFM) and then are outraged by others. Leo is astonishing and Bob gave his best performance in 30 years. Snubs at the Oscars for either would be horrific I agree though with one thing, BlackBerry as a comedy is baffling. But let's go Howerton!
I have zilch credibility in the HCA. Any awards organization that fails to nominate Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro for ''Killers of the Flower Moon'' is out of its mind.
I wasnt crazy about the movie but de niro absolutely deserves to be nominated. i didnt think charles melton deserves the praise he's getting. and lily gladstone shouldnt be getting all these wins, but i guess they gotta be woke. seems like everything about KOTFM is drenched in wokeness and critics being disingenuous
Perspectives like yours are exactly whats wrong with the world. I bet you sat and watched KOTFM and were angry about how white men looked in that film and felt personally attacked.
