2023 Beta XTrainer The Most Underrated Dirt Bike?

A review on the 2023 Beta XTrainer. This is now my favorite bike from Beta. I really like the smaller frame on this bike, the handling is good as well as the power delivery. This is a great bike for newer riders because it's so easy to ride but still fully capable for more experienced riders.

Guess who picked one up this past winter 😉 I rode one a lot last year and really began to understand the advantages of the bike. The light weight of a small bore, the lower center mass to get phenomenal traction, the smaller chassis to easily throw around in the woods, combined with outstanding power delivery characteristics. We have found that with some simple free mods, the motor retains it's amazing low end, but gives it a little quicker revs if picking up the pace in and out of corners. We have found Aaron at AMP to transform these bikes suspension and, honestly, now ours don't really give anything up to my other Beta's or even my YZ250FX for tight woods singletrack. Between my X Trainer and my YZ250FX, I have my bases covered for weapons for PNW terrain!

I rode a 300rr and xtrainer, btw love your videos and trails!, anyways havent touched "enduro or hardenduro trails in over 2 years due to me being super busy, its something I feel like I have to keep riding in order not lose your skill or confidence. Went yesterday for the first time on the TE250i yesterday and I did horrible...the tall seat with the rock fields did not give me confidence at all; completely forgot how the bike behaves and feels. Walked a bunch of the obstacles I use to "roll over" Buddy gave me his xtrainer and my confidence level changed from night to day. even me being 6ft 1. the xtrainer made a worlds difference as I fell into introductry rider again, and it was just so much easier to ride and handle. I want a xtrainer now so I can ride with my buddies again.

Sounds like you did the same thing i did to my 23 XT. I couldn't believe how much more power & handling performance i ended up getting from simple improvements like adding the fatty pipe and tubeliss tires with lower pressure. It's honestly a very good bike on its own, but these 2 things i would highly recommend. Also, i believe beta will now let you send in your suspension & they will calibrate it to your weight for free.

Most people don't really need the factory RR race edition with KYB for riding trails. It's a race bike and it's not in the sweet spot unless you're at 10/10ths. The XTrainer and the 'entry' or base versions of Sherco, KTM, Husqvarna, TM or the XTrainer equivalent from Spain - the Rieju MR RANGER 300, are more than enough bike for recreational trail riding. The factory RR editions these companies make are focused machines. They're 'better' for racing, that doesn't make them 'better' for riding trails. The right tool for the right job in other words.

I have a Rieju 300 Pro which feels great on the technical single track I ride. I love riding my friends Rieju ranger though. Such a hidden gem of a bike. I bought the 2023 xtrainer and really like it. I am a more experienced rider and like to have a bit more power in technical obstacles to get the front wheel up easily so i bought a FMF fatty pipe for it & im absolutely in love. Now it has the perfect amount of power on a smaller tighter frame. 100% recommend giving it a try.
@NeverRest300
@NeverRest300 Год назад
Just a small note here; if you ride hard or extreme enduro, the Gnarly FMF pipe would be a far better choice for low down torque and throttle response low down. Pair that with an open air filter cage from a Beta 200, and slightly bigger jetting, and it’s an absolute hard enduro weapon!

@darrellbarry3402 once you get the suspension set up for your weight, it's just fine. The suspension on the newer Betas is indistinguishable from others like KTM. Personally, i didn't have to do anything to the suspension when i got mine. They typically come set up for a rider between 150-170lbs

I looked at them hard in '18 but wound up sticking to a carbed Husky TE250. I got a bit more time on a 2020 Xtrainer and compared to the other models at speed it would hit a certain point and get unstable. Fast foward to today I'm not riding single track as much (nor doing hare scrambles) and when I do not as quickly. I like the challenges that require balance and fine controls. I'd also like something street legal out of the box as well as I've enjoyed dual sporting recently. I may be looking at an Xtrainer again as I could see it being a very long term ride.

I have a 201 with a Smartcarb and kept the OI - combined with a Rekluse RadiusX clutch it goes anywhere!

Tried the smart carburetor and chuckled it after a while went back to stock carburetor all around better

@@racerunnermx hey Race Runner, do you mind if i ask you for some detail? thanks man, one of my buddies has the xtrainer 300, he runs a smart carb and so far likes it but he's only tried it out a few times. if you don't mind me asking, what was it you didn't like about it? i've gotta admit - i've heard of em but never tried one or know anyone else that has one. thanks heaps-) barbie

@@8barbies779 tried two different measuring rods just didn’t feel as snappy as the stock carburetor! Ran to rich and actually got worse mileage had a shop try dialing it in but still wasn’t happy with it after two weeks and 6 rides later I went back to stock and I am happy with my decision! Doesn’t mean that they are bad just not for me! They’re bulky too! RIDE ON

Rode the xtrainer. Thought it hesitated and was too soft on initial throttle and the suspension is quite treacherous at speed. It also felt clunky and uncomfortable between the legs. But some people love them.

I’ve never heard that from many people that have a true ride on my Xtrainer, matter of fact quit the opposite that it’s the better feeling between your legs! Different strokes for Different folks I guess! RIDE ON

A guy i ride with bought his son one of these, a 21 or 22, it's a good beginner bike but he said the suspension was no good

Suspension is good for mountain single track and like 1st thru 3rd gear trails. Anything really fast you’ll blow thru the stroke. Just depends on what your doing with it.

I have one. It's great for the hard stuff but the suspension truly sucks. I had mine re sprung and re valved by AMP and now the whole package is awesome.
@thomastjg53
@thomastjg53 Год назад
@@midgetmoney1 just out of curiosity what do you weigh, and how did you have it setup. Mining HS , enduro ? The bike I have now is setup for HS and work good out on the trails, a little more flowing and faster the what this is.
@Drewski423
@Drewski423 Год назад
@@KB3AOL yeah exactly. 1st thru 3rd gear mountain single track with a lot of gnar it’s perfect. Especially for a 150-155 pound rider. Of course it’s not gonna handle wide open flow. Wasn’t intended for that. For hard enduro and slower stuff it’s fine.
@midgetmoney1
@midgetmoney1 Год назад
@@KB3AOL Actually, totally the opposite. We ride super gnarly, slow, tech trails only, no high speed. The problem with the suspension is the spring and valving. On very steep, slow, technical decents, the brake dive is so bad it's outright scarry. The deflection is also very bad. The stock spring it too long and is compressed even at a no compression setting. AMP puts in the correct sized and weighted spring and matches the rebound in the valving. The suspension does suck. Maybe not for everyone but that is the consensus. Luckily, there is a fix.

Not a bad bike I had one the only way I would buy another one as if they ever quiet that rattling clutch basket down that thing sounds like it's got a bucket of bolts twirling around and still has a carburetor for 23 that's a big No-No for me

The DDS clutch in the new 300rr was good, hopefully they put it in the XTrainer as well. I do know Beta plans to stay with carbs for as long as they can.

Only thing wrong with the X trainer is the cheaped out stock suspension. Fix that and the bike is competitive in any kind of enduro event.... Period. My grandson has done that and earned gold medals with an X trainer at Idaho City 100 events and ISDE Qualifers.
