I like the choice of plants you used! I got my first crested gecko a week ago, he came with the bow front enclosure he was living in. I ordered a Zoo Med 18x18x24 enclosure for him just yesterday. I was going to buy a premade background for it but I may do what you did. Thanks for the video!

It’s definitely a labor of love and takes time. But it’s fun because you can make it the way you want 😁

Check out ever evolving exotics. It's a business, sells planted vivs, is a pet store, he does vivarium build shorts. He just applies substrate directly on wet foam, no carving, no silicone. Seems like it would work better, since the wet foam is about the stickies stuff ever. I've always wanted to try it, but I've got my one herp, and...

How many bags if hydro balls did you use. I foujd some online that are 2.5 lbs ive got two in my cart wondering if i need more. I've got a zoo med 18x18x24. Oh and how do the sides look? Im gonna do the back of the tank for sure bur since thats gonna be against the wall im worried about being able to see the foam n stuff.

I don’t have the exact amount of hydro balls used, however my layer of clay balls is about 2 inches thick. The sides you can see the foam, so getting either paper or something to cover it would be a best choice to avoid seeing the foam !

Do you have any videos or recommendations of handling mold in a crested gecko bioactive enclosure I just never had a mold problem with my bioactive set ups for reptiles and I’m not sure what to do. some people say it’s bad because it can cause respiratory issues and to redo the whole cage some people say that it’s good and safe and won’t harm gecko if anything mold shows a successful set up. However, I wanna know if any of the stuff I’m researching is true and what to do next. The isopods and springtails are not eating it. the mold a group of these small little white dots They’re deep in the substrate And I only see it on the sides of the glass not even the top of the soil towards back corner of the enclosure and the mold is even on my a small amount of my hydro balls in the drainage layer I scooped some out airated the soil a bit since soil felt compacted and my crestie is in a little quarantine setup for the time being

To be safe I’d probably re do the stupid. Getting good airflow will help stop mold. Also give the enclosure a month to get full in place before adding the animal

@@SotasExotics imma redo it I did do the 30 day quarantine with the build but how can I prevent mold in the future?
@SotasExotics
@SotasExotics 11 месяцев назад
@@xx.ultraviolet best bet, make sure you’re in an area with good air flow. Let the springtails establish. Mold will accumulate in areas of high moisture and little air flow. Think of it as “trying to breathe” if you need to reduce water levels you may need to do that but having the air currents will definitely help

@@SotasExotics dude thank you so much!!! for everything !! I’ve made so many builds in the past for my other reptiles and they’re bioactive environments are fine but seeing this mold for the first time in the cresties tank not getting better I was like freaking out on what do haha. but I will definitely redo the build this Friday and for now she’s staying in her quarantine until it’s ready to go next month 🤣 and imma look into that for better air flow I know I will be definitely limiting the amount of misting for her enclosure in the future because it’s a huge enclosure I’ll probably only mist one section of it moving forward

Computer fans. You can buy USB computer fans and put them on littler timer to encourage airflow. Also, making sure the soil drains well enough and allowing it to dry before a heavy watering. Also, make sure it's mold and not mycelium. Mycelium is definitely a big plus as that mean there is a high diversity of beneficial bacteria and fungi. Mushrooms are good, mold is bad.
