Wow! It looks like you are ice skating on those backward marches because how smooth they are. Any tips for marching (especially smoothing head movement)? 😊
Goodjob man! I'm currently a freshman at my local highschool and ive found marching band to be fun. I play Bb base clarinet so im not really familiar with trumpet or really high notes for that matter but you sound really pleasing to hear. Glad they offered you a spot
I’m also currently a freshman at my high school and in my schools marching band. I play trumpet and this dude is incredible because high notes are difficult to hit that clearly with that good of a tone. He’s also a great marcher
Really cool seeing this. I had one blue devils piece come up in my feed. Fell in love and watched some others and now this audition came up in my feed. Extremely impressive to watch. If you dont get in holy crap the audition process is extreme.
Congratulations on your contract with the Concord Blue Devils. I know they did not have a huge number of age outs last year so there must not have been too many spots available. I marched guard with the 83 and 84 Sacramento Freelancers. There is a video of our 83 winter guard show on RU-vid. It is old school, but it is a lot of fun and there are exchanges and tosses galore. Drum corps is so much more difficult than in my day due to all the dancing and movement asked of the entire corps. I am from the bay area and have many friends who marched in BD. When I marched, BD and SCV did not have boys in the guard so I chose the Sacramento Freelancers! I was only 15 and 16 when I marched! Have a great summer. I believe #21 and 3 in a row is this year's destiny for the Blue Crew! FYI.....beautiful tone on that trumpet!
Lifelong BD fan with a comment for each of you, Carlos and Miles. Carlos, congratulations. Beautiful work. You look cutout to be a Cut-Out. Looking forward to 2023! But don't overlook Miles' 1984 Freelancers. Miles, I was in the stands in Atlanta 1984, and the most beautiful and magical moments of the night were created by the Freelancers' color guard and its formal dance to "With You I'm Born Again." The cameras focus too much on the brass soloists, so I'm happy to have seen it live and in person. Congratulations, Miles, for helping to create historic moments in DCI. Hopefully Carlos will too in 2023.
@@patrickkaye9734 84 was such a tough year. We literally changed most of the closer between Semi's and Finals. I am so glad you enjoyed our waltz during Born Again. It was my favorite part of the show besides trying to play soprano during the opener. Thanks for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed our show.
Great audition, is this what is required these days with the movement? As in do BD give you those dance movements to audition with or was that your own? I marched BD03/04 and was the last Brit to March brass until Alex tucker 💪🏻 Congrats on becoming a Blue Devil and welcome to the family……. Loving this years production ❤️
Thank you! The visual staff wrote the choreography for anyone sending in a video audition. Also yes! I know Alex, he’s awesome. Fantastic trumpet player!
Oooo nice job! Your legatos are on point and I really loved how smooth and connected you are! Also I saw you are from lake Orion Michigan as stated in the beginning of the video, Did you do the Dragon Marching band? Cause I did ferndale’s from 2017-2021 :). So I probably might have “saw you” (I’ve watched some LOHS performances at competitions as we would watch flight I bands before awards) at some competitions edit 1: also a Mario kart fan? Nice. :) my last year of high school I did esports for Mario kart in the playvs Midwest circuit
Where can I find out what these auditions are about? I found the movement audition section on the official website, but I couldn't find the sound section! Do you determine the content of sound auditions that way?
Did u get in? Also i played trumpet in high school and never in my life played all 3 notes down or moved the slide. I think mime was permanantly stuck in fact, lol.
Are there any other visual requirements besides the ones you showed? Because I want to audition for the blue devils after I graduate but I also want to be prepared.
@@carlosperez-hijar9792 Thank you so much! I will keep this video in mind for when I audition! And excellent playing btw I wish my tone was that smooth lmao
This is why no UKor EuropeanCorps ever attained this quality. Simply, very few brass players read music, had the dexterity or understanding to play like this.
Absolutely, I grew up marching with one of the top Corps back in the day. Music education in schools in the UK has never been the same as the USA. In the states, you either did music or athletics, depending on your prowess. In the UK, only a minority learned to play an instrument or read music, outside of normal music curriculum. Most corps members learnt 'Parrot Fashion' and Brass players by writing the Valve number on the Score so the reader knew what valve to press! This is why no UK Corps ever attained the same heights as US Corps. @@dylancoolahan2850
“your playing was amazing and we would’ve loved to have you, unfortunately however we have decide not to allow you to join us as for that zesty ahh skip”
Couple things....1) This kid (most likely) Chicano. No problem with that per se, but lets be clear, my Mother & Father graduated college in 50s and I did not have a Bach instrument to tryout with, nor a dwelling with modern accoutrements as seen in his tryout video. Our home was (what people today would call) dated. At best. 2) I marched with Madison. Before the tragedy of inviting girls to a Scout camp. This dude seems like someone who would've marched with (modern) Madison. Sorry, but the world of old has changed. I wish this young fellow, whom I have no idea why his tryout is on the internet, good luck.
