Feel like I’m the only one that loves this car, at first I didn’t like the design but now I think it’s great along with the interior. I don’t really care for the weight with the power of the engine! Great car

reminds me of a modern e30 m3 and this is literally the only modern bmw i like. hoffmeister kink is strong in this one. my first two cars were both e30 325is' back when they were dirt cheap. i had the opportunity to purchase an e30 m3 with only 40k miles for 10 grand and i passed it up for a damn e36 m3. i was young lol. still kicking myself for that, but the e36 was awesome and felt like a significant upgrade as a DD coming from raced out e30s. edit: 3800LBS????? i take back what i said. this is like 745li with a turbo kit.

I've been thinking about an M3 for longer than I care to admit. In my opinion, the M3 and M2 (maybe M4 as well) are the best car someone that doesn't run a $1bn company can buy.

Its so nice to see a new car with a manual transmission.

Digital dashes are great but it really depresses me when I see they had no more imagination than to stick a big rectangular screen up there and did not try to integrate it nicely into the cabin at all. I spend my working life sitting in front of rectangular screens, I don't want that in my car too

I’m a bit confused as to why you like the manual in this but didn’t in the M3/M4? Isn’t it the exact same manual transmission unit ?

what are your thoughts on the 2023 m240i? b58, rwd/awd. I think it is a more practical supra and I would like to know if you agree or disagree.

This car grew on me quicker than expected. My favorite new beamer out for sure. No buck teeth is a bonus

I bought one of these in February and now have 8,000 miles on it. A few observations from someone who actually owns this car: The car is ugly as sin ON CAMERA. But in real life I honestly believe it’s the best looking M Car. It’s a head turner and gets endless compliments. I’m so glad I didn’t opt for an M4. The shifter WILL break in. Everyone complains about the rubber feel but that drastically improves by 5,000 miles. Give it a year of driving and you’ll love the notchy, positive feel. Opt for the sun roof. Don’t get the carbon fiber roof. You can tilt up the rear of the sun roof and enjoy the sound of the engine in sport/sport plus mode. Trust me, it’s very therapeutic to rip on it on the way home from work and listen to that straight six howl without getting wind noise. It’s simply a whole additional fun factor that you will lock yourself out of if you get the carbon package.

It’s nice to still have cars like this. However, it feels quite digital and seating position on M-Sport seats and bonnet are too high. Engine and rear axle are really good.

Would you buy this over a Mustang GT manual? Pricing is surprisingly close with same options. $60-$65

Love this track; absolutely love Elkhart Lake. Highly recommend visiting. This car has been growing on me. Still think the front looks incomplete and rear overdone, but the positives seem to outweigh negatives. Bummer they had you on the go kart track and not the actual track.

I liked the style from the start. That combined with the positive feedback from you and Jackie Ding is more than enough to convince me to get one of these for myself, as I was debating between this and the Supra as my only car. The practicality and refinement of the M2 is too good to overlook and it’s exactly what I’m looking for in a daily driver. I may get some hate for this but this car has a great automatic that I think is justifiable over a manual, unlike other sports cars where the manual is the obvious choice.

The left turn at the stop sign, the car gets to something like 40+ MPH in first gear.

Older gen M2’s were better imo.

Is the manual still rubbery or did they fix that?

I kinda like the new M2, my only problems are: - It's not the ugliest car in the world, but it could've been prettier. - It's too big to be an M2, this feels more like a M3 rather than a M2. - Too heavy, and I hate with all my forces heavy weight, because it makes the car worse in everything: speed, handling, fuel consumption, emissions, etc. Resuming for those who can't read longer comments, it's a good car, but it could have been better.

The best part of the interior and handling is that you are no thinking about the ugly exterior.

obviously haven't driven it, but i feel like the weight range is a bit beyond what you'd like for what most people consider to be a driver's car. it's a bit unfortunate but yknow, these 3500+ lb cars are usually quicker around the ring and honestly most tracks, even if it's not as fun to throw around as a lighter car. it's a very competitive car, and maybe a driver's car for some, but i know the weight of the car probably instantly disqualifies it for some enthusiasts.

Other than the obvious power difference, can you share some perspective comparing it with your CTR? The gearbox, the steering, the ride in different settings, cornering capability, especially both are sharing the same PS4S tires? Given the crazy markup of the CTR, which is very close to the base M2, do you think they are comparable? If it’s your money, which one would you buy?

I've been a lot sour concerning BMW, especially design & size. At least this is an appropriately sized sports car, although HEAVY. Nice clip...

The design is definitely differnet, however I do like the rear end quite a lot.

Hey man great review! In the beginning you noted the lame manual feel of the M3/M4…would you say that’s improved in the new M2??

Still don't like the way it looks but will say that tinting the rear lights helps.

i have to say that i think the f22 is prettier (i promise im not biased, mines only a 220d) but one of these in a few years to replace mine is becoming tempting, maybe even more so than a m340d touring, and i do love a diesel. i agree with the centre console bit too, seems like the height was carried over. takes some adjusting to but once youre used to it its very comfy for long drives

Would you say that this car is more suited with the manual than the m4? Because i think that they would use the same transmission in both cars because its the same engine however you seem to be enjoying this one a lot more than the m4

Somebody needed to appreciate the G87 M2 and constantly shit on it and you didn't. Thank God. I know XM was technically more controversial… but M2 (G87) feels like the most polarizing BMW I’ve ever witnessed. Even more than M3/M4 (G80 and G82). I know I am not the only one who is tired of this, and I’m a big fan of the car. Ever since the F22 2 Series came out, I’ve been feeling it more and more. I told this to my friends in DMs before but with the racist and personal comments on that comment it just truly hit me how insane this community has become under '23 M2 (G87). I think it’s multiple factors, but M2 (G87) being a car that pissed people off I think is something that needed to happen. BMW needed a shakeup, and I think '23 M2 shook up the way people drive BMW. Lots of people just didn’t understand the design/weight because it’s like nothing else in a BMW M car. Of course, the design is just one of many reasons the community around this car is so polarizing. But I can’t help but feel content creators are partially to blame. These long videos analyzing the car going “it’s not like F87” are making it worse. Their opinion is perfectly valid, but there are an unbelievable amount of people who get their opinions from content creators. If some content creators feel one way about the car and they’re the only ones making videos, there’s going to be a noticeable skew. Back to pissing people off, the BMW community feels like it’s breaking apart from the inside out. I think the more BMW experiments with G-series the more we can weed out the dumbasses (like all the racists that have seem to come out since this car) and BMW can break apart the expectation that we need E46 every year. They just need to NOT let the community direct the car.

I just wish they would offer it any of the darker blue colors

i have this car. i haven't used 6th gear once. i almost never use 5th either unless i'm at like 90 mph+ (also, the second i turn the car on, it goes in sport plus. i didn't buy this car to drive it like a Versa. the only time i am in comfort/efficient mode is if the wife is in the car or i am in stop and go traffic.) efficient

I think the F22 2 series looked so much better.

Does this car outclass the Integra Type S as a driver's car? Seems obvious that it would, but the hype and praise showered on that car vs mixed reception on this one (criticized for feeling dead) has me wondering. I'm torn between G87, F87, and ITS for a daily driver with the occasional track day. Heavily leaning toward G87 now for refinement.

I drove one. The steering is so fake. Zero feel, not even any pretense about it. The brake by wire and massive curb weight. Meh. The part of the car that was most impressive to me was the suspension felt very sophisticated and dialed. The interior is nice, but I'd still rather have physical HVAC controls. Its a good csr I guess, but it still defaults to understeer at the limit

They really took the m2 from the best looking modern bmw, to the ugliest one. The front with a lip, and lowered looks good. But the back never looks good.

Too many y "modes". Why can't these cars just come perfectly set up? BMW manuals feel rubbery. Styling is wretched. Inside and out.

3:45 Unless the manual transmission jams on every single gear, or has mandatory automatic rev-matching, I'd take it over the best DCT on the planet. If it's ICE, I want it to be manual. If it isn't, I'd rather have an EV.
