I have the z4 m40i. I have driven the m440i convertible and an 850i convertible in Hawaii. Honestly. My z4 looks better, and I care about performance. Also my top goes up and down in 9 seconds, no wind noise inside due to it being a true roadster and having a wind deflector. And the performance in corners is the same as the supra. The z4 is the ONLY good "convertible" bmw. If you want the top down, get a z4 and take just one special partner with you like a wife or gf. No need for pointless useless back seats no one wants to sit in, and an oversized boat. The z4 Interior is the same but it just handles and performs way better since it weighs over 1000lb less, yet is nearly as WIDE as an 850, but has weigh shorter length, height, wheelbase, and you sit right at the rear axle. Try the z4 m40i and you'll see exaxtly what I mean (if you care for both cruising like a gt car AND going all out performance)
I just bought one and I have to say you are on point on everything,ie. seat belts not coming to you, not having a smooth ride like an air suspension, etc. But it's a joy to drive with the top down. Next stop would be a Bentley GTC. Thanks for a great review!
This is not bad, IMO. It is close to an AMG GT63S, Audi R8, or really Bentley Continental GT. Of course if you want a real head turner/conversation starter, get a BMW/Alpina B8!!! Just a little bit better engine performance, better handling, and small, nice luxury touches in the cabin. Also (in this video) that interior is my favorite from BMW. Two tone blue and white (or cream)!! Love it!
Did just that for slightly over 70k. Have had the car for a year. Driven it in snow, heavy rain. No problems. Besides topping off the coolant here n there, car runs well.
I got a 2023 Coupe in September. The coupe has so much better styling than the convertible. What you complained about the discontinued 6 series was correct and an ugly back. The M850 coupe is sleek and sharp looking. Only drawback is the rear seat which you are also correct. Excellent video!
Exceptional work ! 🙏🏼 What's the equipment behind this ? Love the quality in every way. How did you mounted the camera for the cabin view ? CONGRATS ! 🙏🏼
Back in 2020 for a 3 year lease: 15k miles / 51% residual 12k miles / 53% residual 10k miles / 54% residual So yeah, if you buy brand new you lose about half in depreciation over three years. Not many people can afford that on a $130k USD car. I could buy the car, but I can't afford that depreciation. Buying vs Affording.. two different things sadly. This is a car for the wealthy or high income folks, same as the M760li and Merc S63. And this is saying nothing about taxes or maintenance.
These videos are very suggestive and often can be "somewhat" misleading. What do I mean by this? Well, in this video the gentleman doing the video eludes to the fact that the BMW M850i feels a bit Mercedes Benz like and not as rugged as the typical BMW feel or "engaging". While you watch other videos and the complain is the complete opposite - their complain is that the car is a but too rugged for a $150K; that it needs to be a bit more luxurious. Then in most videos everyone raves about how beautiful is the rear end of these new 8 Series cars; while on this specific video the rear end is not "appealing". The front grille is "much" bigger? Compared to what? Perhaps compared to a 1971 BMW 2002 series. Because let us not forget that the car is quite wide - therefore the grille must match the width of the vehicle. The exterior design on the 8 Series have lauded as perhaps the "best looking" of all BMWs; yet, in this video the rear end of the car and the grille didn't quite make the cut. The video is overall very good - let me make sure that I am not misunderstood. I am eluding to the fact that when it comes to his particular BMW Series - I think that it is sometimes getting some unfair reviews; which are often very inconsistent. For some is the best looking ever then followed by another video in which the car is hideous. In some videos it feels as if you are driving a dump truck and in other videos it feels as if you are driving a Lincoln Continental or a Mercedes Best Limo. In a handful of videos the steering wheel is to thick and in most videos the thick steering wheel is awesome. The interior is Bentley like; but, I want the same little gadget that the previous 335i used to have handing me the seatbelt. A cheap looking plastic gadget that after a couple of years became "finnicky" and often would come forward without the belt. Why piano black if it will get dirty? What other trim can be used that will NOT get dirty? Why am I being such a pest? Because at times it feels as if those making videos are looking for things to criticize and they cannot find anything they just criticize things that are insanely trivial. Keep in mind one thing - I am only being just a petty finding things wrong with the video for the sake of finding things wrong with it. 😉 Perhaps it is the IN thing - let's criticize for the sake of criticizing. 🙂
beautiful car but saddens me that it's a soft-top convertible instead of a hard-top. What's also annoying is that the color of the soft-top is different than the color of the car.
We all go to the great beyond. It's that realization that hits, not money. In fact, with more money u are used to the sweat stuff. Once back pains roll in, greybeard shows up, more money might make it even worse, the crisis
Tell you what, how bout the entire car industry just make horned mirrors the standard o every car. That's basically how watered down the M branding has become. I feel so DISRESPECTED as an X6MMMMMMMM Comp owner. This is NOT a true M car. Only M cars should have the horned mirrors
I had and sold LC500 to get the M850i 2 dr coupe. Same color as in this vid (carbon black). My LC500 looked fast but wasn't. Roughly the same weight as the M850 2 dr version, but the LC had 471 hp/398 tq vs the M850's 523/553. M850 interior and especially the infotainment system is better than the LC's. For me the LC was a great GT car that served as a springboard to the M850 couple.
The designers from BMW should have made this 2nd gen 8 series with split headlights not the 7 series and X7. It would have looked apart just like the first gen 8 eries that technically it had split headlights.
Just looked up what $132,000 CAD was in US dollars. It's $96,000 today! 20 years of liberal / socialists like Trudeau and Canadian currency has gone to hell!
I drove one the other day. The interior is luxurious and very comfortable. The performance is top notch. I just don’t know what to think of the styling. It’s kind of bland. Looks too much like a Mustang. I kind of wish they would’ve did like a next gen i8 and threw this engine in there and called it an 8 series. The 8 series from the 90’s remind a lot of the i8’s styling.
Dated items on the car: - steering wheel: look at the Mercedes and porsche, so so much nicer, this looks old and bubbly - rear-end exterior, yuck, bloated and bubbly, gross - 275's on the back tires 😮💨, should be 305's minimum - I could go on but I'm so bored already -
A better question would be why would anybody buy this on 2023 WITHOUT idrive 8🤣? Folks, BMW has to the dumbest company in history not to make this year the year to rollout idrive8 across the whole lineup. So buy this, then next year they add idrive8 to the 2024 model. So stupid.
