I have used 4 different broadheads for 4 different whitetail kills. The best I used so far has been the evolution outdoors Hyde head. Looks identical to the head you used. Crazy good blood trail, for 60 yards to dead deer. Pass thru with a much lighter arrow than you and 10 lbs less draw weight. Definitely worth a look if your interested
great setup. i run the same bow/cams. 72#s w/easton procomps and rear deploying expandable. same quiver too. 320s for speed and under 6lb bow perfect for mountain treks for elk to coues here in NM.
More power to ya! I have the same bow. S2 cams, 80lbs. Was too much bow for me with that draw cycle on the S2 cams.😂😂… I had to turn it down to about 73.5 and put it on 85%let off instead of the 90% in order to make it shootable and able to come off at full draw. Awesome bow. Even for a short guy with a short draw (27.5) I love the long axle to axle.
So glad you talked about sanding the hook on the stan I've had nothing but issues with mine. I've sanded it once already, definitely could do it some more though👊🏽
Nice setup! I just ordered a new Bowtech CP 30. I’m switching from the Easton Axis to the Gold Tip Kinetic Pierce arrows. You’ll like the G5 broadheads. I’ve been shooting the Montec’s for the last 5 years.
Nice set up, great video as usual, Thanks! its tinkering season for me, I'm testing different lighted nocks and arrow weights. No buck this year, but did manage a bear and several doe with my bow. I was concerned with my arrow weight, it was only 440 ga, but blew through the bear at 52 yds, with the 125 ga Annihilator broadheads.
Great video as always thank you. My question is on game bags though, you had talked about game bags that held meat in a tube shaoe vs a bag, you stated this allowed to pack better and not be flopping all around. Do you remember who made those? Thanks
Something else about heavier arrows, they carry speed better than a lighter arrow. Basically a lighter arrow slows faster than a heavy arrow. I still prefer a light arrow tho, i want a flatter trajectory. And at longer distances that flatter trajectory is less likely the nock end ballons out on you.
Highly recommend you use a lab radar using heavy vs light arrows and the heavy arrow holds the velocity further and in my experience was going the same speed as a 300gr arrow at 60. My heavy was 550+- a few
It went all the way through because you did not hit any bone or ribs. It takes nothing to go through a deer if yo don’t hit rib or bone. And depends on how close of a shot you took. No matter what anybody says a cut on contract head is the best there’s never any second guessing when you use them. I went through all the experiments with mcanical broadheads, and for me the best head you can use is the stinger buzzcut with the bleeder blades .
It depends on what better means to you. Mechanicals fly better at distance, are easier to tune, are more forgiving in the wind. When you’re hunting coues deer, I’d take the mechanicals any day.
I do agree mechanicals do fly great, even if your bow is not tuned. But you take the time to tune your bow for cut on contact non mechanicals such as the magnus stinger buzz cuts with the bleeder vains they will fly just like darts.
Pretty thorough breakdown of your setup there Brian. I believe that you can get your arrow weight down to the 420-450 range (Dan Staton from ElkShape killed multiple bull elk with 420 grain arrows and different broadheads this year) with minimal tweaking. Mostly the point weight. A 125 G5 Megameat or Deadmeat (my cousin shot through scapula with one), Sevr 1.5, 1.75 or 2.0, or since you like a hybrid try the Evolution Outdoors Hyde (Brian Barney, Dan Pikar, Josh Kirschner love them). Have a blast down in AZ chasing the grey ghost. I know for filming reasons that rifle hunts are easier but I am glad that you want to get back to the Gritty Bowman name that is part of your email 📧 address and is in your blood 🩸 😃🏹🦌
@@GrittyGearAndPodcast you are quite welcome 🙏 brother. I am glad that you like the suggestions/confirmations as well as those well wishes. I look forward to the Coues film 🎥, really enjoyed last year’s in old Mexico 🇲🇽 with Hunter, Lampers and Brad. Although those were rife hunts, a bow Coues 🏹🦌🏜️ is a whole other challenge. God Bless.
If you want to shave that much weight and still pack a punch, look at the victory rip xv. I’m shooting 28.5” at 70lb. 300 rip xv with a ethics 100gr insert and 100 head a wrap and 3 heat vanes at 420TAW
To adjust the bow, the bowhunter must shoot a bareshaft from at least 20m. Dudley has a video where he shoots well from 70 m, but he refused to shoot broadheads. He said he could, but they would fly lower, I don't know if he understands why. I think because his arrows have a helical plumage and an arrow with a fixblade will have more air resistance. I shot 3 blades from 70 m as well as fieldpoints. I want to try with 90 m. Before such shooting, it is necessary to check the bow setting.
Are you serious ?? You aren't sure if dudley understands why something is happening IN ARCHERY. He is a top tier EXPERT.. I don't agree with alot of his choices due to sponsorship.. But he may know more than anybody else in the industry.
@jackbuendgen389 understood and IMO. they make great competition arrows. As far as hunting arrows go there are far better / more durable options. Just my opinion.
Going to Mexico. I look forward to hunting Arizona again but as long as Mexico is fairly doable I’d like to let others who aren’t able to hunt Mexico have a crack at an AZ hunt.
Heavy arrows don't buck the wind any better than lighter ones. The facts are this, broadhead in flight diameter, fletching size, arrow in flight diameter , arrow weight / time in flight are what affect wind drift.. So everything else being equal a heavier arrow is worse in the wind because its slower. BTW - I shoot a 550 grain arrow sooooooo
Perhaps you’re completely right. And I have no doubt that my overall arrow build is contributing to my arrow’s performance in heavy crosswinds. Fletchings, arrow diameter, FOC, etc. all play a role in arrow performance. But weight has zero impact? So a 600 grain arrow is going to move in the wind the same degree that a 100 grain arrow is going to move? If I’m not wrong, it takes more energy to move a heavy object than it requires to move a lighter weight object. I’m no physicist but I think weight matters (btw, for more reasons than just the wind ).
Drive a one ton diesel with a cross wind and than drive a tiny car. Tiny car has less surface area but gets blown around way more than larger heavier truck with more surface area
@@GrittyGearAndPodcast You are correct there is a difference but its minute compared to the advantage to a lighter (therefore faster arrow) "Time in flight" I also shoot ELR with my firearm , the 6.5 creedmore is a sweet shooting rig because of its great BC bullets , compare that to a 30-30Win.. 220 grain bullet compared to 143. BC is not just about drop, but also wind drift.
@@GrittyGearAndPodcast I am all about a heavier arrow for bigger tougher game.. I shoot a 550 grain RIP TKO with Iron will components up front (half out and insert) and beleive it not only hits harder but is FAR more durable for my game of choice - MOOSE .. BTW - I love your content , best on the web by far.
