This is the fifth episode of a multi-episode series on our 2023 British Columbia Moose Hunt. In episode five we hunt the last day before any bull opens and we see a nice bull in the distance just before dark. The next morning we have a close call but couldn't seal the deal, but that evening is a different story. You'll have to watch to see what happens. Remember camera angles are very deceiving, what looks like a bad angle isn't. It happened quickly and the moose only went about 50 yards. Thanks for watching. #moosehunting #longrangehunting #moose

Hi Tim, yes that was a tough one. We always seem to shoot them right before dark and then it rains or snows. Lol. But yes, great memories for sure. Thanks again for watching and the comment and Rob says thank you. Take care my friend.

Heck yeah! That’s a giant load of groceries right there!! Great job. It’s hard to find “A” good hunting partner, when you’ve got a group it makes that kinda work a little more bearable.

Hi Karl, moose are gigantic animals. Im still amazed at the size of them. We do have a great group of guys we hunt with, and that is invaluable. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend. Keep watching there is more to come, take care and be safe.

Good job, Al and Rob and everyone. My brother and my hunts are much the same. He still lives in Fort St. John, but I’m now on Vancouver Island and I still go up north to hunt with him in the fall, so it’s so nice to watch your videos. Dumb question for you. If I were to drag my meat back down south, how do you guys keep your moose from going bad ? Some people say you have to let it hang in the freezer before you ever process it. For me it’s a bit of a time crunch as I only get a week at a time… What do you guys do ?

depending when you knock the moose down, even if you can hang it a day before transporting. Where we hunt it's a two day drive, and we have found if you have air circulation during transport, you will be good for at least two days to you get back home and hang it properly. Of course making shore the meat is absolutely clean, no hair or dirt, always helps. We always take a pallet or two in back of one of the pickups to help with the air circulation. Hope this helps, from an old Yukoner 👍

Hi hondaman, thank you. We have found that once you get the initial heat out of the meat it will more than last the trip home. The meat has to hang for at least 24 hours in cool weather before we will leave for home. Rick also lives on the island and we have never lost any meat in the 20 years of going up there to hunt and we have seen 30C a few times going home. We always store the meat in the front of the box of the truck wrapped up in a tarp, I like the idea of a pallet, like Johnny mentioned to circulate air movement, but we don't have that kind of room and we just stack the quarters on top of each other. We always put the hinds with the testicals on the quads in the trailer for proof of sex, in case of inspection. Also lots of times my butcher will cut the meat right away or let it hang in the cooler for a few days. It has always tasted really good either way. Again thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, take care and be safe.
