This video is almost as long as a full feature film! Walk with me through the Central Arizona Cactus Succulent Society (CACSS) show and sale at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona. We'll go through as many show plants as we can while you listen to me pronounce all the plant names wrong and then head outside to the sale where we will struggle to not buy everything that we see - a true test of strength and will.
I tried to capture as much footage of the show as I could. There were so many incredibly rare and mature specimens, some of which I have never seen before. All plants belong to Central Arizona Cactus and Succulent Society (CACSS) members. If you live in Arizona and love cactus and succulents, I highly recommend joining the society.
There were also around 20 vendors at the sale of which I could only capture a handful of shops on camera - I tried my best! I probably needed 5 hours of filming time to capture everything but that just wasn't feasible.
I also got to meet some incredible growers both new and seasoned. Everyone was super nice and talkative and very open to sharing information. I think when you put people together who share the same passion, synergy is practically guaranteed.

Thank you so much, Jodi! Every attendee gets a bean when they enter the show and you place the bean into the cup of your favorite plant in the show. So it's a people's choice voting system. I had exactly the same questions when I saw the cups!

I love the detail and time you took into making this! I found it hilarious you kept saying you had to hurry up but the video kept going for another hour 30 minutes 😂. Congrats on the ribbons!

Ha! As I was editing and watching back I was also laughing at the number of times I said "I need to hurry up!" and then kept stopping to look at all the plants LOL. I really underestimated the amount of time I needed!

You're right! I didn't see a division dedicated to grafted plants. I think the rule is that you have to indicate if the plant is grafted on the entry slip.

There are beans in the white cups. It's a voting system for people's choice. Every attendee gets a bean to put in the cup of their favorite plant.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this video! Thank goodness this audience seems to prefer long videos lol. This video along with all my pre-September videos were shot with a Panasonic HC-V180 which I bought years ago never knowing that I would eventually use it for cactus videos. I use the built-in mic since this camera has no feature to plug in an external mic. Super low tech. As of September this year I got a GoPro and have been using it for videos where I'm walking around and moving a lot since it does a much better job with stability without a gimble nor editing software post-processing. I have a 20 year old wired mic that I plug into the media mod accessory. Hope this helps!

Some of the vendors featured sell online. Some you have to contact through Instagram and others I don't think have an online method to sell.

Yes! Come to the show next year, James! I heard this show is much smaller than Inner City in southern California but it also means it's much easier to navigate, less crowded, which is very nice too.
