I’ve been loving my ZR2. My first Chevy. I was in the market for an adventure type vehicle. The Multimatic DSSV shocks, dual lockers, skids, steel bumper checked all the boxes. The interior has me feeling spoiled with all the bells and whistles. People need to realize not all offroading is high speed Baja and categorizing the ZR2 with the Raptor and TRX.
yeah honestly loving mine too. It's a great well rounded truck, still feels like a truck without the squishy feeling that you get from a Raptor. Just waiting for the AEV front bumper to be available. Finished clearancing 35's this evening actually
You ABSOLUTELY nailed it! Chevy didn't benchmark the Raptor when producing this truck.. It was not built to compete with Raptor or TRX, yet RU-vidrs keep relentlessly imposing benchmarking the ZR2 against the totally different Raptor, anyway. It has created an undeserved negative culture towards the ZR2, The ZR2 competes with RAM Rebel and F150 Tremor etc. Chevy filled the huge void in the half ton off road truck segment, by giving us this truly capable off road half ton beauty that fits on trails, and has lockers rear AND front lol. Plus it has Formula 1 technology for shocks! The ZR2 is the most all-round off road capable half ton, period.
I just got mine Thanksgiving weekend. I absolutely love it. I shopped it against the Raptor and TRX, the mark ups were insane on those 2 trucks and I just can’t bring myself to pay over sticker on anything. Also if I ordered either of those trucks it would of been about a year wait. The ZR2 I grabbed right when it arrived to the dealer, I paid sticker plus I got discounts which got put towards the accessories like bed cover and side rails. Overall pretty good deal (giving the market these days) and great truck so far 🤞🏼
I agree with you dodge and ford mark ups are stupid and make no sense at all. This truck looks amazing and I like it more than any other truck silverados have grown on me. And I am coming from Toyota family
I’ll be glad when Chevy builds a fast V8 supercharged Z71 4WD with at least 750 horsepower that will be faster than the Ram TRX and the fastest 1/2 ton truck 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile. GM could easily do it and they would sell like crazy. I know I would buy supercharged 750 horsepower trailboss or something similar.
@@warriorwarrior6999not when it's never, the president said she will not make a competitor to the raptor r or trx because it's not cost effective and doesn't make sense. So she basically said she doesn't care about the competition of who can make the most insane truck. So sad to see company heads who hate fun 😥
I have one. Power is decent, but the bottleneck for any larger or supercharged engine is the dinky 24 gallon fuel tank. I was looking to do a Magnus supercharger, but I don’t want to be filling up any more frequently than I already am.
@@dcogburn1986 I don't know about that, sometimes, it's better to "lie low" so the cops don't pay too much attention! If I owned one, I'd get one that was sand dune color or gray, nothing too flashy...
This was helpful. I been beating myself up for passing up on ZR2 I waited 5 months for. It was 76k and dealership added ceramic coating and side molding BS protection so I walked cause the OTD price was 2400 over what I felt was a fair shake. Now, I’m stuck on the AT4 that’s loaded and it is 6k less with all the bells and whistles less the lockers and shocks and I’m not going to take anything 70k to a desert or climb rocks by any means but you’re right even a basic z71 would be more than enough to do everything I personally would need to do with it. I can splurge for the regular AT4 and probably end up loving it more than any other truck.
@@guspolinski2881 It's like 8k more...lower clearance front end and comes with 32's not 33's. How is that so much better than a ZR2? lmao quit smoking the green stuff my guy
Me too after 3 f150s liking my trailboss much better with the 6.2 and 10 speed plus install pulsar lt it runs more agressive than the ecoboost and the 5.0.
@@thorpower1015 My 2022 3.5 ecoboost runs harder than my 21 6.2 trail boss with the pulsar lt that I used to have. I ran it on 4 + sport. My buddy’s 2021 5.0 was also faster than the Chevy. Problem with them is their weak 3.23 rear ends. I traded the Chevy because it felt too slow even in sport mode. The Ford is night and day difference and I used to be a diehard Chevy guy. I can only imagine the zr2 is even slower. Best I timed 0-60 with the boss was 6.2. I can get a consistent 5.7 with the Tremor I have in same driving conditions
@@rayshawnrayborn6624 4 plus?? There is no 4 plus on a pulsar lt. Sounds like your talking about the pedal commander. Anyway its all good ive had the exact same opposite experiences, with the pulsar i am able to get mid 5s 0to60.
@@thorpower1015 Pulsar doesn’t affect 0-60 I hope you know that. It’s still the weak 6.2. Pedal response won’t change that. And I mean having the throttle sensitivity on 4.
Drove one today they have 6 in the lot. Kinda makes me. Wonder why? Drove it around and honestly the 6.2. Seemed okay at best. I have a 5.7 tundra ,and my truck had better pickup. I also have it on 33 e rated tires. Awesome tech inside kinda love the Bose stereo.
Took almost 5 months to get mine - I have SOME minor issues - headlight stops working, then works again.. and the dash blacks out. Also, it can't go past a gas station without turning in automatically. Horrible fuel economy - not that I expected much, but its worse. lol 18L/100km is average. Other than these small issues, its a nice ride and gets lots of attention.
@@79random There are two sections under the rear bench seat for some storage. Under the two front seats, it's pretty minimal. I can also add - IF you want to tow a trailer (work related or toy related) the rear shocks squat a LOT. Pulling a sled and an atv in a 21ft trailer, was max, i'd say. There was power, but the suspension getting overloaded faster than I had expected. Feeling this wasn't the correct choice for me - live and learn. I will get another F250 in the Spring.
Got mine 3 months ago at sticker price plus my military discount.... I love it and makes the trailer boss, raptor and txr lool weak.... for the price you can't go wrong... took my off roading to the gran canyon amazing...
LIKE A FUCKIN ROCK!!!! I have a 2008 Z71 4x4 5.3 Flex Motor that has Burned NOTHING But E85 from Day 1, I'm 62 and have had 4 4x4's in My, and YES, There's NOTHING Like a Chevy Truck, My Wife will be Burying Me in that thing!!!!
I dislike that they talk down the ZR2 as being the same as a trailboss. I don't hear anyone say the AT4X Sierra is the same as the AT4. Seems b.s. marketing trying to get everyone hyped on the AT4X. Only thing is ZR2 stickers for 74k over AT4X at 84k i can deal with slightly less comfortable seats without massaging for 10k less. Lol
So they fixed the lifter issues then? I'm doing research and I came across people saying there were lifter issues. To be honest, I'm not sure what those are but it seemed to turn off alot of people from chevy. Can someone help me understand. Thanks.
It hasn’t, daily Im seeing people on the trail boss FB groups. Brand new trucks are still breaking down. GM hasn’t even acknowledged the lifter issue exists
I think a lot of the issues people had when GM did the ZR2 are because they expected GM to make a Raptor/TRX competitor or killer. But GM went a different way and to me? Well I still think they did a great job with the ZR2. Like you said, " for the everyday guy" it's got more than enough capability and power. Plus it looks great and it's a LOT cheaper than most Raptors or TRXs. At least the ones you can find. Still all that being said, I think the ZR2 is what the Trail Boss should've been. And that GM should've made a super off road truck that competes with the Raptor and TRX. My reasoning to this is that a Trail Boss is just a Z71 with a 2" lift and slightly bigger/more aggressive tires. Just make the regular Z71 what the Trail Boss is, make the Trial Boss what the ZR2 is, and then make a truck that again can compete with the top of the line trucks from Ford and Dodge. It's a no brainer ya know? We don't have a lot of time left for good old gas powered super trucks. So why not do it while we can enjoy it? But I do like the ZR2 a lot. Honestly though? I'd save some money and just go with a Trail Boss most likely. That's probably what I'll do when my 2015 Silverado bites the dust.
@@MWAclanGaming The 6.2 isn't under powered though. In an RST Crew Cab the 0 to 60 is around 5.4 seconds, in a custom Trail Boss Crew Cab it's around 5.75 seconds. That's comparable to an eco boost Raptor. It's not a rocket no. But I wouldn't say that it's under powered. Any vehicle let alone a full sized truck that can get a sub 6 second 0 to 60 is pretty quick. Also I have a 5.3 Silverado (2015 regular cab) and I don't feel that's even underpowered. The smaller Ford V6, the Dodge 5.7 Hemi, the GM 5.3 are all pretty comparable. The Ford 5.0 is a bit faster than all of those but it's slower than the Ford 3.5 and GM 6.2 for sure.
@@largol33t1 I would too. Then I'd send it somewhere to get a supercharger put on it, a 410 rear end, a 30 gallon gas tank, and then finally tuned accordingly. If I didn't hit the lotto though? I'd just get an LT Trail Boss with the 6.2 and leave it stock.
I see it has the wonderful "auto start/stop" and probably the Dynamic Fuel Management where your cylinders go from 8 down to 1 or 2. And don't forget a direct fuel injection which dumps oil into the intake. When my 2017 Silverado croaks, I don't know what truck I'll go to next.
It sucks that we have to find tuners to turn that off. IMO if someone wants 4 cylinders then then buy the 4 cylinder. Why would GM force this on the 8 cylinders. Most people buy a v8 because it's a V8. Leave it to do as it should.
Direct fuel injection does not dump oil into the intake. It has to do with direct port injection, which is actually a better thing. Yes, the newer 5.3, 6.2 have had catastrophic issues with the lifters.
@@calebniederhofer6529 There's no such thing as "direct port injection." It's either direct injection or port injection. The latter cleans the intake valves with gas when it fires. You need to stop driving for Napa delivering parts and take a few classes.
I know this is a little older thread… but I was hoping to hear if there were any differences/updates from the 22 to the 23? The only thing I have been able to find is the center console phone cutout is now gone(even though that model still had it)… anyone have an updated list of anything?
What is with all the crew cabs. I’m waiting for my double cab to be built. Don’t need a giant back seat. Better off road. A 2” lift and the Z71 package and 3.0 lzO
Front and rear lockers on ZR2. Multimatic DSSV dampers, that’s about it. This is why I’m leaning towards the AT4. Now the “AT4X” is different and is the sibling of the ZR2. Also more expensive but super nice with messaging seats, gorgeous leather, and the lockers.
Do a real review after owning it for a while . How many times is it going to end up in the shop ? Nice truck but too expensive. Prices have to come back down
Buyer be aware , when these trucks break down under warranty , GM has no parts to fix them . My truck has been waiting over two months for a steering rack/steering column, GM has no idea when it will be fixed . Asked the dealer i bought from about exchanging it for a similar truck , they want nothing to do with me or the truck. Driving a Ram from the GM rental company that supplied the loaner. GM customer care doesn't care either , very disappointing with the money they charge!
It took Ben a whole 2 and a half minutes to mention the Raptor, this time. Usually he has said "Raptor" 30 times by now... This guy could be reviewing a 90s Buick, and he would bring up the F150 Raptor 1000 times😂 Ohhhh he saved Raptor overload until near the end, this time... Well played, Ben🤣 GM didn't benchmark the Raptor when producing this. This is competing with RAM Rebel F150 Tremor etc. I don't understand why you RU-vidrs chose to impose benchmarking it against the Raptor anyway. I love the ZR2 for exactly what it is. Chevy filled the void in the half ton off road segment, by giving this beauty! I'm thankful for this product and don't care about Raptors, or I would have searched "Raptor" Can we just discuss this wonderful truck, and not the Raptor?
Do you feel they’ll have a ZR2 with the Duramax soon? I really want that engine for the fuel economy. In Phoenix it looks like I’d have to order an LT Trail Boss with the 3.0 if I want leather interior, seems like all are cloth here…..
I especially like the Custom Trail Boss , the tail gate is so useful especially when my gal is waiting for me spreading her legs waiting for the 'Boss' Chevrolet Custom Trail Boss is the best truck for rednecks like me
I don’t like the look of the zr2 it doesn’t appeal to me but the Gmc definitely looks awesome and the interior is on point I can see myself getting one in a year or two
This is much better than the Tundra and all the truck 99 percent of people need. Want to go off road as well? Buy a used Tacoma you don't mind denting. Paying over 6 figures for a TRX and then thrashing it offroad is for fools or the wealthy.
I can't believe they are sold out the TRX & Raptor are miles ahead of this truck, and also gets about the same fuel mileage. GM is miles behind Ford & Stellantis in everyway possible.
Finally after they had a lawsuit it’s that stupid government regulation they always poke their nose in our business and make decisions that are over complicated the cylinder deactivation and def is BS just extra garbage that makes trucks unreliable
The problem with Chevy is the rear axles are known to blow and the a/c system is very labor intensive to fix, these are the two reasons people go Ford. Oh, and the cylinder deactivation, maybe it's gotten better over the years, but cause a temperature difference in one side of the block from the other on a long road trip can't be good, and I don't care what any engineer says. Otherwise it's a very very nice and very cool truck.
Yes.. I have had Issues with BOTH of those Things AC went out at about 19000 miles Transmission issues at around 32000 miles Both were under warranty But It should not happen to a truck with that low of Miles..
What the hell do people do for a living to afford $75,000 trucks??? Much less vehicles that cost even more? Is it just me, or am I the only one asking these questions? I should go back and kick my guidance counselors in the nuts.
Not buying another truck untill Chevy make a truck like the raptor or the trx and maybe then maybe just maybe Chevy will make good looking trucks again
WHY the hell would the leave the floor mats in the back of the truck to be worn by the weather?? Thats pretty stupid and if I'm spending $65+ they are replacing those.
Oh and real complaints - interior lighting at night is beyond garbage, as is the rear heat vents and feet heat. GOOD LUCK for those who have kids and have snow/cold winters. Yes, I bought this as a daily driver and off roader secondary. Regardless, these need some BIG tweaks...did i mention the ridiculous location for the windshield wiper spray button being BEHIND the left paddle??? Great placement when needing it in a hurry from mud splashing up on the windshield or snow. Complete moronic way of thinking ---- as is the console shifter that you have to push FORWARD to go into REVERSE and the push button PARK at the TOP of the shifter. Let's not only try to reinvent the wheel, but lets make it out of cake and twinkies and fuck it all up.
Meh, without the diesel, there’s no way I’m giving up on my Land Cruiser 200. GM is just soooo dense. The overlanding crowd would be all over this in a diesel.
