Thanks TDC, always fun to see your vids of the fly-ins. One day I will be present. Good Luck.

Good to see these planes again. i built two and sold them on , but have the Vanguard motor with prop and cone ready for installation and never used -here in SW France. Any reasonable offer considered.

I certainly hope that's apple cider and not beer!

Hi Grant, sorry to disappoint you - it was good German beer. Of course we don't drink and fly. Drinking beer is strictly "post flight".

Another superb record of what looks like a great gathering, so thank you for putting it together. I know how much effort it takes. I'm really envious of the ability that Europe allows you SD1 pilkots to get together like this. In my travels around the UK I've never been at the same field with more than one other SD1. On most of those occasions, they were in a hangar, covered in dust. I was interested to see that you are using a gimbal mount for a camera, but little evidence of that on the video. Did it not work well? In addition, I sympathise with your GoPro experience; I've been lent one by a disillusioned fellow aviator and find it produces great images...when it works, which isn't always. After much trialling, it stays in the box. I can't afford to risk a "dud session", which happens too often with this unit - Go Pro Hero 6. I see that there's a cable to your 360 camera (which, IIRC, you didn't have good results with a while back? I think you've got a different model now?). Is this a power cable? I have trouble with wifi connection to my Insta360R because it goes into Power Save mode and I can't access it via WiFi if that happens. I have rigged a permanent power feed to a camera on the aft fuselage which gives me nearly 6 hours of continuous video, and I'd like to do the same with a boom mounted 360. How have you routed the cable? I can only write all this because, if the weather hadn't stopped me I'd be at the UK's premier GA rally tonight, catching up with other folk like you do in your video.. Unfortunately we haven't had the Summer that you lucky guys in Germany seem to have enjoyed. Oh...some "interesting" landings. I see that there were many congratulations on the successful outcomes. When I do something similar, nobody is around to film it. Thankfully.

Hello Mike! Nice to see you over here 😄 The Gopro I use is the "8 Black" model, and after some trial and error I found the only reliable way to have this thing roll is by using the top button with the "power-up-and-shoot" settings. So, basically I just push the button, it powers up and starts filming 4k stabilized 16:9 wide angle. No fiddling with the settings, no looking at the display, just hit the button and hit the button again to power it down. Whenever it is turned off I can connect it to the charger but I have learned to disconnect it prior to filming. Unfortunately on this day the sun just cooked that poor thing until it quit. Gimbal mount? Yes, I do use that gimbal, and there's a *proper* camera mounted on it. It's a Sony ZV-1 with a 1-inch sensor and Zeiss lenses. That thing was marketed as a "vlogging-camera" which is complete bu11shit because it doesn't have much of a wide angle capability. If you hold it at arms length pointing at your face all you'll see is a lot of nose hair 😅. However, due to compact size and low weight this camera is perfect for traveling and shooting high quality 4k video footage if, and only if, you pair it with a very *very* steady hand or a gimbal mount. As I found out, a steady hand is not what I excel in, so I bought the smallest, cheapest, lightest gimbal mount that would still be able to manage the Sony camera, which is a Zhyun Crane M2. You wouldn't believe how shaky a lot of the shots would look if it weren't for this gimbal, especially those that utilize the zoom to the max. Actually I often walk around while the camera is rolling. This gimbal can reliably connect to the camera to control the basic start/stop and zoom functions and it also powers and recharges the camera. Still, in flight I can only use this combo in situations where the pilot workload is low. The 360° camera outboard is the same model I used last year: Insta360 ONE X2. I had to return the first one because it had one lense permanently unfocused. Maybe some defect, I don't know. I ended up buying the same thing again because it just ticks all the boxes: best compromise between price, weight and performance, low power consumption, can be connected to USB power bank (you'll have to modify settings to prevent it from going into standby or power save mode!) and can be controlled by smartphone to roll whenever I need it pretty reliably. Of course I need to be careful not to accidentally change settings with the smartphone (yeah, it happened , see the result in this video) There's one small power bank inside the carbon fiber stick connected by the cable you noticed, which is enough to have this camera go for hours and hours.

Hi Chris. I'm shortly to receive my new SD1 kit with the inverted SE33 engine. Would it be possible to tell me the contact addresses for the similarly equipped aircraft in this video (OK-AUR15 and OK-BUR25)? I'd be very interested in their experiences with this engine and installation. Many thanks ...Mosstrooper MW.

Hello friend, which engine in this plane did you install and how many displacements?
@TDCflyer
@TDCflyer 10 месяцев назад
It's a modified Briggs & Stratton V-Twin with 810cc and around 35hp

you can land this plane even when the engine fails, as seen here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HrpK2osUC1g.htmlsi=ZC_4umkh-Oo6ccNW&t=451 However, it requires a certain degree of trained skills to do so successfully.

_I watch the video he landed successfully he is very experienced, do you know project of the PIK-26 Mini-Sytky plane and which one would you recommend the pik26 or sd1 minisport?_ SD1 and PIK26 are in very different categories in Germany (which is where I fly). SD1 is a Microlight which requires no more than a SPL (Sport Pilot License) while the PIK26 requires a PPL (Private Pilot License) which I don't have. Therefore I couldn't possibly try and fly a PIK26. In terms of building, I'm pretty sure the SD1 is the easier choice: The plans were made entirely using CAD software, they are very detailed and complete to the last bolt and nut. The PIK26.... I have never seen the plans, but given it is an older design it might be more of a challenge.

_Friend, this engine is safe, what is its autonomy and how many feet of altitude does this plane fly?_ highest I went so far was about 8000ft, it holds about 25l of MoGas and uses roughly 5,9l/h at 80kt in 3000ft

Was soll ich also machen... 😁
