2023 GMC SIERRA SYCLONE!! 🤯 

Gm needs to produce something like this. They keep pushing the “off road” like if everyone spends all their time on the dirt and rocks. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, we need the SS or the extreme packages again.

The OG cyclone and typhoon are still cool as hell 25+yrs later

AWD is what made the originals so bad ass, I knew a bunch of people that dropped a small block Into those old S-10's. And they looked and sounded cool as hell but that AWD would be halfway down the track before they even hooked up lol

Back in 1990/1, GM was testing the Syclone in Dearborn, MI. "Dialing" in the power. They had to back it down in power due to tire failures, cooling, and driveline stress. My neighbor was one of the engineers who tested it. TBH, most were confused at the concept back then. Buying an expensive S-15 small farm truck for what? The public didn't buy into it at the time. Nowadays, people are spending huge money for pickups...so, adding a Sierra Syclone into the mix makes sense to me.

The Syclone was only built for the 1991 model year. The Typhoon (with the same 4.3 V6 turbo, was built in '92 and '93 and was based on the S15 Blazer 2 Dr SUV body style.

That thing is UUUGGGLEEEE!!. Huge GHETTO REEHUUMS, no actual tires, and it just gets worse from there. The original GMC Syclone was a much better looking truck, but even way back then it had the no tire issue. Back in the mid '80s, I had a 1972 Chevelle "HEAVY CHEVY". I seriously regretted selling that car. In 1993, I bought a new Chevy S-10 standard cab 2 wheel drive short bed. It came with a 2.8L TBI V6 and a 5 speed. I used it as a daily driver for a while, but never really used it for a truck. After about 6 years and 70,000 mostly highway miles, I pretty much quit driving it. I took it out every few weeks and drove it around the neighborhood to prevent it from deteriorating. One day I was watching a video on the Syclone, and decided I could build a better, faster one. Rather than call it a Syclone, I decided to call it a HEAVY CHEVY, after that Chevelle. Out came that 2.8L, and in went a hand built (by me) 383ci old school carbureted V8. Very few actual GM parts in it. It was built as a streetable drag racer. 5 speed was replaced with a 4 speed, rear end was replaced with a custom built Moser 12 bolt 3.88 posi, rear discs, custom driveshaft, stiffer rear springs, poly bushings, chrome front and rear bumpers, 1991 style grille painted gray, chrome fender trim, cowl hood, HEAVY CHEVY emblems and stripes, 225/70-14 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in the front, 275/60-15s in the back on American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, black vinyl tonneau cover, custom steering wheel, Hurst shifter, stereo delete plate, and several other minor things. It makes just over 400 rwhp at 5000 rpm, and will blow the doors off a stock GMC Syclone. With no turbo and no EFI. Plus it looks several times better. No plastic side moldings, lots of chrome and silver, it looks like it came right out of the early '70s. If you want something built right, you have to do it yourself.

Im a ram guy and really looking to buy a GMC single cab once I’m back in Mexico . They look really nice and some of them Packages are almost fully loaded . Sucks they don’t make them like that here in the US .

I would certainly have one. My first truck was a 89 Sonoma 4.3. I’ve always wanted a Syclone but the prices over the last few years have skyrocketed. I’m currently looking for a C7 Z06 but I would rather have something like this if it came with the supercharged 6.2 and a awd system.

I had a 91 GMC Sonoma ST single cab 2.8v6 5 speed. It was white with the red ST graphics and the red stripe down the sides, bumpers and grille were white also. It had the look but it was only a 2.8 but it had a long life finally giving up the ghost at 327k miles in 2006

If, IF! Gm actually goes through with this build, it'll be the best truck (as far as speed and looks) are concerned. The best truck ever made! Yeah I said it! Forget about the raptor, lightening and chevrolet SS. This truck will be killer!

I remember going to the drag strip and watching the cyclones drive around the water for the burnout area. You knew it was gonna be a good run. It didnt disappoint. If i remember correctly, it ran in the low 12's but it was mostly stock. Only slicks at the time. The cyclone and the buick grand national (same engine maybe) were the boss of factory dominance at the time. What a great time to have been a part of that era.

I can't tell you how many Pony heads that monster claimed when it hit the roads. I was working at West Chevrolet on the "Motor Mile" in Alcoa, Tennessee from 94 to 2000. My best friend from high school, bought a used Syclone with 3800 miles and a sneaky-pete 100 shot of nitrous tucked away beautifully. That thing ate EVERYTHING. The only car I ever saw beat it in 99, was a highly upgraded AWD Eagle Talon. They had gobs of money in that thing. It was stupid fast. He beat that truck by a school bus. I was floored,....and $120 in the red.

Came here after watching Gale Banks video he posted about the Syclone. Sounds like 93 was a fantastic year for cool vehicles straight from the dealers.

I’ve just seen the rendering of one of these done by Zephyr and it’s the coolest truck I’ve EVER seen. The stuff dreams are made of.

GM did some wild stuff back in the day. i remember these quite well. they smoked everything.

Never will forget seeing a syclone being used as lawn truck hauling lawn mowers and other yard equipment.

I ran a Mastercare Firestone Center in Madison Heights MI. from 90-95, PAS Inc was located right behind the shop and since the Syclone and Typhoon used Firestone Firehawk tires, WE did ALL the 4-wheel alignments and tire mounting, DAMN We had FUN Test Driving those things, they All were set to 12 to 15lbs of Boost, Floor it from a Dead Stop and within 1 City Block you were doing 100mph!!!!

Looks cool, but I have a hard time believing they would put the LT4 motor in there since they didn't in the ZR2 Silverado. Considering the Ram TRX and Ford Raptor have supercharged and/or turbo-charged engines and GM didn't step up and do that to the ZR2, it is hard to envision them doing this to the Syclone. I would love to be wrong, but I don't see it happening...

This is a message to GMC. Please make this type of truck reliable. Because I may buy one in the future if you do so.

The 3 unaccounted for: Barrett Jackson sold 1 (or maybe 2?) quite a while ago when GM had to dispose of all their test mules/proto types. They had a warehouse full of one offs so they decided to sell them on BOS only not to be licenced. Unfortunately a LOT more were simply sent to the shredder.

I have a new 2023 GMC SLT. on certain parts of the interstate that they’ve re-done from last summer and fall when my new truck gets on there it’s like it’s kind of bouncing me back-and-forth. I’m wondering if this is because the part that they’ve redone is not smooth yet, and it’s got like lines in it, as soon as I get off of any new part that they re-done on interstate my truck just goes back to normal. It’s so uncomfortable to drive because it almost feels like you could lose control. Could it be the lane assist? Any ideas you guys have? Please let me know.

I’ve been hoping for a reg cab short box, 2 or 4wd with the Turbo 4 for awhile. Give it base options and some fun wheels and decals. Low price and fun. I’d probably get one to go along with my Silverado ZR2. Share it with my sons. Basically I want a reg cab shirt box low option elevation. 😂

It would look sweet if it resembles that, but sadly, it won't. Hopefully, they will do some cool designing like the original.

GM should make this, for sure! And then put a newly designed flat-plane crank V6 with a turbo. Then they could use the same engine and give performance options for other vehicles like the Malibu or Blazer, etc. But save the turbo option only for the Syclone. Damn, General Motors should hire me!

Great idea, if GM decided to do the syclone again.... in respect to the original, it should there small truck, whatever 6 cylinder motor they have supercharged or turbod, & AWD.... LIKE, keeping the same recipe, just modern ingredients!

The Cylcone was a performance Sonoma, and the Sonoma was not a half ton, and were introduced as quarter tons, or "compact pickups" meaning any modern Cyclone would be definitely be GMC Canyon based. Unless GM releases a Maverick competitor.

I’m more of a Ford guy, but I would snap up a syclone in a heartbeat.

Kind of drooling at the thought of a new Syclone. The OG Syclone and Typhoon were GG as hell. Or they could use rear twin turbos and match them up to the V8. I like the idea of rear mounted turbos b/c they can stay cooler than having them in the engine bay with a V8. GM Probably won't do this but it's a thought. The concept has been used on Corvettes whose owners decided to go turbo.

I understand that this is a GM enthusiast channel but have to mention the Hyundai Sana Cruz with the 2.5 Turbo. This Hyundai reminds me of the late Cyclone.

The whole point of them. Was the attraction to the power output of the 6 cylinder. It would be ruined with a 8. I had the typhoon. It was a blast to drive

Yep, GM needs to produce a truck like this for sure. It would definitely be a good seller with the hopes it would be priced fairly and not 80-100,000 like most other decent trucks out here. 6.2 supercharged would be the only way to go, NO V6 garbage.

So it's a concept truck. For a 2 door it looks cool. Personally I'd never get a 2 door truck. Can't even call it a truck tbh. I think the El Camino needs to make a comeback.

I think they should do a lower cost version of the Syclone with just the body and wheels with the 2.7 turbo. It's quite a motor in the standard cab short bed configuration, super light but still very powerful. It's as much truck as anyone needs, they just don't know it until they drive one.

I've said it before, GM needs to do what Toyota, and to a greater extent Ford did. Make a variable power Awd system and some really efficient engines/hybrid systems. Though I think we will see a decrease in electric vehicles the more the Cobalt mines are exposed. Maybe bring back the 3800 in aluminum block and revised top end. ZZP made many high mileages daily driver over 500 hp with 3800.

Syclone and typhoon was fastest vehicles on the street back in the days nothing could come near these 2 vehicles. Could that happen again? Looks damn good💯. I have 700hp Saleen but I would trade in for this any days!💯

10 speed auto with an LSA supercharger would be pretty neat but hard to sell enough to justify even starting the whole project.

The original cyclone and typhoon Motors blew up often at the track,they got pushed to hard and popped, unlike the GNs they had a bombproof motor , very cool trucks though, I love the modern version,should be put into production.. and affordable.

I just saw a shortbed regular cab Silverado on a lot. Its a 2wd with HO turbo 4. $38k I want to order a 5.3 in this. If they will let me. Lower a couple inches. Fat tires. This would be a great truck to work and cruise. I'm a Chevy guy but love seeing the 2wd short f150 also. And maybe a supercharger when you get bored
