We live at mile 374 on the bluff overlooking the Tenneessee River at the Marshall County/Jackson County line and keep our boat at Goose Pond Marina. You will be happy to hear they plan to dredge out the channel back to the Marina this year, so it will be wider and deeper the next time you come this way. (Can't do much about all the grass though.) Hope to see you on the water some time!
Thats great news! We have been in the Keys and The Bahamas since we crossed the Gulf back in November. So, it'll probably be a few years before we get back up there, but it sure is beautiful!
I just discovered your channel today, and I've watched [I think] all of your videos as you head toward the Gulf. I live in central Indiana 90-120 minutes away from any navigable waterway, but your story is giving me hope that I may someday cruise the Loop.
Man, you can do it! I really need to finish our latest video and show where we are in Florida now because we are leaving Daytona/Halifax Harbor and heading to the Keys for the winter. Then we will head to the Bahamas as we head back north in the spring. The sights have been unbelievable. Just make your plan to get the right boat and one that is on navigable waters from IN, so around near Evansville and from there head down the Ohio to the Cumberland River. GO through the locks and you are on your way! We have best friends in Noblesville, IN! Great town.
The turn in the river your talking about at 7:50 is Moccasin Bend. Famous for 12,000 years of continuous human habitation. Both the Moccasin Bend National Archeological District (national park), and the Moccasin Bend Mental Hospital are there. Past that is normally called the Tennessee River Gorge but Tennessee's Grand Canyon works. At Nickajack dam, the river goes from the Tennessee River Gorge in to the Sequatchie Valley. Both of which bisect the greater Cumberland Plateau in to multiple named "mountains." But you only really see that its one giant plateau from space. I have a earth animation zooming in to it on my last video. Its only a few seconds at the start of an hour long video, but it shows it pretty well if you pause it.
Good video and enjoyed the explanation of some of the various sights. First time to view the sonchaser and I am sure your going to have a great time. Where did you start your loop?. Enjoy
We started in Nashville from Commodore Yacht Club, but the actual Loop path started at Green Turtle Bay on Lake Barkley. We are now almost to the Gulf and will play in the Destin area and back up to Demopolis as we wait out hurricane season.
We are currently in Demopolis at Kingfisher Bay marina, waiting to make the jump to Florida at the end of the month. However, my slip is sitting empty in Nashville at Commodore Yacht Club near downtown if you'd like to use it! I even keep the electric paid up. It's covered and very nice.
