Been building this out for a few years now and it's pretty much completed now. Give you comments and questions. I'll be doing another video more in depth of everything as well. Please like & Subscribe!
I think my wife would laugh at me for spending so much more than I could afford. Plus, my house’s electrical circuits would have to be substantially upgraded to handle that much power.
What you have here is pretty awesome for a home lab and well put together. Not to mention, definitely something to be proud of. Personally, not big on Ui but different strokes for different folks, neither here nor there. I've heard they've come a long way with their newer releases. Kudos and thanks for sharing your setup!!
Sweet setup! I am also sold on the Unifi environment. I do however use fiber around the house since I am a Ham radio operator with antennas in the attic. The fiber cut out any RF issues I was seeing on the ethernet cables in the attic. Also, my Google Fiber 2.5 is great. Keep it up!
On the 24 port switch, I think it sounds sort of misleading. It has 10gb sfp+ ports, but the rj45 ports are standard 1gig. Also, while your technically correct on the lower latency with DAC cables, it's pretty insignificant, as it would be for most other homelabs. I personally run DAC cables cause they are cheaper and stay cooler with less wattage.
@@technologyLife20203 Bet look forward to seeing them I literally just have a R810 with 256gb of ram and 2 Xeon 6550x running ws19 It’s a good machine and I love it
This was a great video! Keep up the good work!! Earned my sub :) Is pihole running on an actual pi or what device is that? I'm looking at doing a networking and rack setup at some point and love watching videos about what others have done.
I started with Cisco, but I just did something crazy and got myself a USW 48 PRO POE 600W, I needed POE and could not find an enterprise unit that had it, next purchase should be the XG 24 10g, I wanted to see what all the fuzz about with unifi man. I was wondering about the NVR cam system, I already have a NighOwl 4k sec system, does Unifi adapt or support any IP cams?. Do you recommend the unifi NVR?
your ping on fiber is way way quicker and your bandwidth is not shared with the whole neighborhood on fiber. I would highly highly recommend getting the fiber for the quicker ping if you game and if you watch plex outside your home you will deff get more than just 20 meg upload!! Also fiber is not affected by weather, like coax can be with lighting. it is worth the cost to get the fiber!!
@@technologyLife20203 Not surprised. CAT6, contrary to somewhat popular belief, can support 10gb, it just can't do it for as far as CAT6a, generally speaking.
@@Markyroson It's not popular belief, it's miss information an uneducation. CAT 6 is rated for 10Gb up to 10M (30ft) but can see speeds of up to 10Gb for the full 100M support length of CAT 6. CAT 6a is rated for 10Gb up to 100M.
CAT 6 is rated to run 10Gb up to 10M. Although the main switch he mentioned and refers to as a 24port 10Gb is not a true 10Gb switch. Its a 24 port 1Gb switch with 10Gb uplinks. This is NOT a 10Gb switch.,
@@williambradford7748Actually the spec for CAT6 is 10G up to 55M. So for most houses this distance should never be an issue unless you either have a huge house or routing the cable in loops.
