Bought my 2019 6spd 2.0T sport accord 50k miles last year for $26k, and a big part of why I got it was Topher’s review of the 6spd accord. I love that car far more than I thought I would. Such a gem
I remember how much criticism used to be around the rear , especially the taillights. I strongly believe the new model will be successful. Too bad the prices and finance interest rates are so high these days. However once the chip production will stabilize, I can see some discounts coming . Right now it's pretty crazy
@@Tay04723 It'll be going back for repairs as fast too. Jokes aside, I had a Bmw before, and they definitely spoil you. I miss it, and would love to get one in the future.
The pricing on these cars are crazy. The fact that a CR-V Touring, Accord Touring, and entry Level Pilot are all in the same price range is WILD to me.
Pretty easy. Supply and Demand. Supply is still poor due to chip shortage. Demand is still high despite the high finance rates. This situation will turn around if rates still go up. Being a new model released, I do believe Honda bumped up the price due to the release costs. Billions in R&D and production line retooling. It's definitely a combination of factors for these high prices. However the high interest rates will slow down the sales of new cars, and I can already see brand new Honda cars on dealers lot in Ontario where I live.
@StanLee TFK it's an artificial supply shortage now... many dealerships are full of cars again. It's the bad dealers not loading their lots like they used to. There is a cevrolet dealership right next to me which has at least 30 brand new Silverados just sitting out front.
Sir, you're absolutely right on listening to your reviews with headphones. I couldn't really hear the accord until you said to listen with headphones and then i could. Then went back and watched some of your older videos with headphones and its a whole new world.
I do like this new Accord (except the exterior which I think isn’t that bad) but there are other options in this class that provide more features. I appreciate that Honda has a better screen and a decent sound system for this trim. Good review Mr. Topher!
People need to stop worrying so much about features and realize that driving dynamics and build quality are other important criteria in a car. You can get the Accord, which doesn’t have a 360 cam and pano roof, but has plenty of other great features, a premium build quality and fit and finish, and the best driving dynamics in its class. Or you guys can take the worse-to-drive, cheaper built, worse interior cars with a couple needless features.
@@SIIKAP1 Most cars in this segment feel very similar to drive. I've owned both the Accord and Kia K5 and they feel IDENTICAL. Both have the same fit and finish other than the fact theat the paint started peeling on my accord 2 year in (a very common Honda issue) yet the K5 feels more enjoyable since it has nice sound system, pano roof, and 360 cam. It just feels more special.
@@pkoya341 the K5 looks great and drives nice but I disagree about the fit and finish. The camry though… that thing’s interior is not great. It drives okay but is still outclassed by the Accord and K5 in driving feel
@@SIIKAP1 I have had 0 issues with the K5s fit and finish. It has no distinguishable difference from my Accord. Same thing with my old 2017 Optima that I traded for the k5. 100k miles 0 fit and finish issues
I do like this new accord, but most sedans in its class at this price point have heated and cooled seats with a heated steering wheel. They also have panoramic roofs, which is sad to not see in this trim. Overall a great car but I believe it is missing a few big features!
I got into an accident in my 2023 civic touring. Unfortunately almost all of the airbags deployed so I probably won't see the car anymore. I just want to say your videos help make an educated car purchase. Keep showing us the quality content okay!
@Derek Newyen to be honest this but I miss my civic already. I'm just pissed off but I'm lucky to be alive. My mother says I almost hit a gas line or something on the road
If I wanted a hybrid, I would buy one but I've been spoiled by my '21 Accord Touring 2.0T. I cannot express my extreme disappointment that Honda nixed the 2.0T engine. I wish Honda would have dropped the 1.5T engine, offered this hybrid powertrain as the entry engine option and kept the 2.0T for those enthusiasts among us. But no one asked me. I'm sure the masses will flock to it but I'm officially done with Honda unless they bring back a more powerful Accord option. Fortunately, my '21 is excellent and I can enjoy driving it a few more years.
@@stanleetfk3823 honestly i agree with OP- the 2.0 hybrid as a base then the turbo for the top trims, maybe add a 48v system like some of the germans are doing too
Most of the blame rests with the Fed Gov (EPA), they are pushing companies to have higher MPG fleet wide, this is why manual transmissions and larger engines are going away.
I just got a SPORT hybrid for my birthday last week. I love how smooth and easy it is to drive. Highly recommended with 49.5 mph (620 mile range) I'm getting.
Hi Chris, ¨Hey Toto,we aren´t in Michigan anymore!¨ As always, a comprehensive, balanced review. I like that you do a variety of vehicles, including ones that those of us who are *not* enthusiasts might want to consider for the commute, and for errand-running...
Trivial but where honda positions the engine start/stop button is so appealing to me. Always around where an old ignition is. I just love that I get to feel like i’m using an older ignition when i’m not. Love it!
Yeah they made this car pretty non quirky. They kept a volume knob (although it is weirdly small) which for me it's a dealer killer when there's no volume knob because I need to quickly be able to adjust volume, they kept a real regular automatic shift lever. I got to test drive the 2023 Accord EX-L and it felt like I'd driven it for a decade and 30 seconds.
I will say this: As a Honda fan, If Toyota still has their Camry TRD 300hp V6 models, then I’m never going to look back at the pitiful 192hp 1.5T Accord and this 206hp hybrid. I loved the older 278hp 2017 V6 Honda Accord’s and even the 252hp 2018 2.0T Accords that used to win drag races against Ecoboom Mustangs; but if this pitiful 192hp is all they got that’s not a hybrid, then I am no longer on the market for an Accord, and the Accord is dead to me. I understand that not enough people bought these higher hp products, but it’s just sad to see the performance options of V6, V8, and 2.0T disappearing.
@josuedeleon9613 Si! La aceleracion del Honda V6 VTEC engines, fue muy increible! Mi amigo Miguel una vez conducí un Honda Accord en el trafico y el casi se hace caca en los pantalones.
The 1.5t isn't as bad as people claim it to be, it's not made to be fast car. I own one and haven't had any issues with it, the hp is adequate for me and has plenty of passing power when i need it. You guys don't need a lot hp in a family sedan for a daily driver.
My favorite reviewer on RU-vid hands down. As the reviews keep pouring in, this new exterior is growing on me but as I said before this design almost worked. They messed up on the lower portion front end making it resemble a Taurus and the they messed up on the rear making it look like a Passat.
@@robsta5000 Unacceptable by the market. Honda will only offer what they can sell. I'm surprised the Si is still around and we should be happy that it is (including the Type R).
I’ve always been a fan of Accords since Gen 1. IMO, each Gen keeps getting better. So many people are bemoaning the loss of the 2L Turbo, but I won’t miss it. I go for the Accord for its smooth quiet cruising, which is what the Touring model is designed for. If I want a driving rush I’ll buy a Mustang GT - which I did, too. I take it on mountain roads and I love it.
great review and thanks for detail around road noise issues no longer being a problem - you said the handling was good what about the level of ride comfort in terms of bump absorption? Also, how does comfort, handling and road and wind noise compare directly with the CRV Hybrid 2023 you just reviewed? Would great to know how these two models compare directly against each other!
I just can’t help but feel that this is a mercury grand marquis brought to the modern day. The bland flat styling, rear connecting lights, low flat long hood, and the defined trunk lid being back just all reminiscent of a town car, marquis, or crown Vic. Can’t wait for every senior citizen to be driving one. The 10th gen will be dearly missed. Honda made the accord cool again last generation and lowered the average buyer age. This is sure to raise it. I’m picturing a lot more civics on the road this coming year.
Design language is pretty similar on the new Accord and Civic in my opinion. Simple and functional. Even the new CRV looks pretty simplistic. But I think the interior is pretty refined.
@@InvictusRed1911 however, the 1.5t with the cvt was known to have head gasket issues. Hopefully the 2.0L new hybrid engine is better. Honda’s cvt was known to have problems, hence the preference for the 2.0t. More power, less problems
I actually really like what they did with the exterior, I think they made the right move going for a more upscale design, and I think it looks good. Huge improvement on the interior as well. I think the biggest mistake Honda made with this new Accord is the powertrains. I have no problem with the 1.5T base engine with the CVT, or this 2.0L hybrid, I'm bummed out that Honda no longer offers the 2.0T with the 10 speed, probably the best engine ever put in an Accord, and it was really the staple for the last gen Accord.
I love these cars. It's got all the accessories you need: A steering wheel, gear shifter, Bluetooth, screen, two cupholders, an excellent state-of-the-art rearview mirror to see if you're getting tailgated by a pretentious BMW driver, AC, heated seats for your cold-hearted soul, and much more! A Honda will take you anywhere, from the dull, mundane Midwestern suburbs to the far end of the Alaskan wilderness (I don't think it's a good idea, but who knows, right?). I hope we see more of these "boring" cars instead of SUV's. Sedan Lives Matter.
The infotainment is a huge upgrade compared to the last gen Accord. Honda could never get the infotainment software to play nicely and not lag or glitch out. The interior seems more refined as well in terms of noise intrusion into the cabin. It's hard to be excited about these changes, but I imagine the average consumer will be satisfied to be driving what's basically an Avalon Hybrid. It's sad to see the 2.0T go, but I can attest to it getting pretty abysmal city MPG in the last 1000 miles I've driven with it. Combined with the awful tires put on the Accord at the factory, there's some questionable amounts of traction that can be had with 252 HP/273 torque. Granted, I found it funny/enjoyable, but my girlfriend definitely didn't when I accidentally did a FWD burnout merging onto a highway from a stop in the wet/cold. That said, it's a major shame that they haven't opted for 360 cameras on a top-level trim. Far as I can tell, they also haven't opted to put in a per-wheel TPMS... these were all cost-cutting measures that existed in the last generation Accord that doesn't sit right with me for a trim approaching at nearly 40K. The parking sensors in the last gen Accord also left a lot to be desired. Laggy, inconsistent, and more annoyingly, no way to turn it off if you approach a car in traffic.
Thanks Toph for another great review. I loved how you commented on the EV drive feel at the end of the video of this year's Hybrid. That's real important to me re: purchasing. You also were a pro regen'ing the battery all the way to full using the paddle shifters🔋throughout. When I get mine I'll know what to do to get full batt. Thanks again! ❤
What a tragedy that Honda removed a higher engine option. It's a good car, with great fuel economy, but much too slow, especially from a roll, and especially in today's day and age. An Accord from 15 years ago had 64 MORE Horsepower and would blow this things doors off. Simply put they neutered the Accord for 2023.
Looks like they took influence from Hyundai/Kia models. The interior is very similar across the Honda models like Topher said, which is fine, its basic and functional. Exterior design doesn't say "Honda" to me though.
I agree. I’ll take the Lobster Claw taillights over these knockoff VW Passat/Kia K5 looking things. And the lower portion front end is where they messed up big time.
I have never understood driving embargoes of vehicles already on dealership lots. 🤷♂️ Glad to see the hybrid Accord remains about the same as it's predecessor dynamically. The sound however, at full throttle is still kind of abysmal. RIP 2.0T, you will be missed.
It gives companies weeks to drive biased reviews to the consumers. Same with cell phones. Essentially the RU-vidr influencers can only talk in positive light which therefore increases consumer demand
@@wbwayne8887 yup cell phones are the same, I started seeing companies release products months prior to them actually being available to the public. For example the Ford mustang has been announced like 8 months before you could even buy it so it builds hype and demand
Thanks dudes. Great pros, cons and overall summary. I just came from the local Honda dealers. Interestingly, one dealer had zero on the lot and the second dealer had every Accord option in at least one color. Based on your review, along with a couple of other RU-vid channel reviewers, I was very much looking forward to seeing the latest Accord in person. Well I walked up to one via a side profile. I immediately thought, it looks as big as a Ford Crown Vic from back in the day. Why is it so big? Then I thought, is it as big as last year? Again, why did they make it so big? At least offer a sport station wagon (estate) if its this big, please. The inside looks great, though. I was overall disappointed. I currently have a KIA K5 EX with the Tech package, a more interesting look. I change cars about every three years so there's me.
I really like Honda's in general, my family owns 2 of them. My daily is a 2016 Accord LX and it's been a great car the last couple of years I've owned it. Maybe in the next 4-5 years when I finally get to the position of getting another car, I may get another Accord like this. The Hybrids that Honda makes are some of the best out there for sure without a doubt.
I have a 2019 2.0 Touring. Love the car. This one looks pretty good. I do like the front of the older version a bit better. Interior is nice. Still loving my old one to think about making a change.
Honda has been really bringing their game up in colors, specially this blue and that orange in civic si.. can't wait to see what other colors are offered in this Accord Are they going to offer in 6 speed manual?
Great review topher, almost saw your face in the door reflexion keep the mystery going you're like the dark knight of car reviews, lol🤣enjoy your reviews as always informative and in depth.👍
Not shopping for a new car by any means, but while this new Accord's hybrid powertrain is genuinely impressive, I can't get very excited over this new Accord. Killing the 2.0T 10-auto is very sad, and the fuel economy here, at least for highway commuting, isn't much better than what's offered with the 1.5T (on the Touring trim). AND they also saved the best features (infotainment and sound system) for the Touring trim which is almost $40k. However, I'm much more excited to see this same new powertrain in the Civic Hybrid. Personally, that seems like the hybrid I would go for. Slightly better audio system, hatchback, better fuel economy, and most importantly, a $30k price tag for the top of the line model.
What do you think the differences are (if any) in terms of refinement and interior road/wind noise between this and the 2023 CRV Sport Touring you tested? Does one jump out as being more comfortable or luxurious in day to day driving situations?
I sell New Hondas in Texas, these are amazing cars. Every one of my customers loves the Honda and long last vehicle. Have a 2000 Accord V6 with 125k miles on it 🎉🎉🎉
The Accord has always been the sporty one among midsize sedans, sad to see this transition to a hybrid powertrain. Now that the Mazda6 is gone, I’m hoping the next Camry won’t be as dull as this Accord.
The Accord with the 2.0T was a great value. Going all hybrid to force buyers to Acura which doesn't live up to its price point was a stupid move in my opinion. Guess next time I need a car I'll look at the Germans.
I definitely haven’t been a big fan of the outgoing generation’s interior or exterior but Honda certainly knocked that incoming gen out of the park with all its aesthetics. The only reason I wouldn’t personally purchase one would be because of the seemingly underwhelming powertrains, but otherwise, it looks to be a great and much needed product offering in their evolving lineup.
@@ciello___8307 come again? All EX-L and touring models had the 2.0 and a fair amount of sports did too. The only unicorn of the previous generation are manual 2.0t sports. Finally found one and with only 12,500 miles!
@@dakotawoodruff2622exactly why I got a civic. 10k for a slightly larger sedan? No thanks. Though I thought the price for the civic was pretty ridiculous I did get a good trade value at least
You're 5'10, but did you have to lean forward greatly to get your head to clear the ceiling line entry or were you able to sit right into the car? My friend's 2017 Hyaundai Elantra sucks getting in and out and I'm 5'9/5'10. 16:45 When you slammed on the brakes, what was that movement sound in the background? Something break off? Some kind of clunk sound.
Nice video, but I wished you would have shown off the built-in Google Maps when driving and how it integrates with the heads-up display and gauge cluster rather than using CarPlay which is pretty much unchanged on all cars.
Another nice review! How's this compare to the 2023 Toyota Prius in terms of handling, highway wind and road noise speed 75mph and fuel efficiency? Does the 2023 Honda Accord come with acoustic noise reducing windshield and front windows?
I argue that this new system is leaps and bounds better than what Acura put’s in their vehicles which is puzzling. Considering most other luxury brands get new systems and UX first but sadly not Acura
its becasue the people at honda and acura are different at this point. Acura is led by americans who priortize different things than mainline honda, which is still very Japanese in its values. Its also how the Integra has a much better infotainment and more space inside than the TLX, despite the integra being a smaller class of car- teh TLX is designed for america , the integra is a reskin of the civic that was tested in Japan
It isn't a bad car by any means, but I'm glad I got my 2022 Accord 2.0 in December 2022. Had a 2022 Civic before that, unfortunately people drive drunk and it was totaled.
I like the looks and technology... *but where is the 2.0T*? 😢 Your original drive of the 2018 2.0T Touring was a key factor in my decision to buy one, and that engine/transmission combo is one of the main reasons and it continues to be a joy to drive. If I was in the market today, the lack of the 2.0T would have me looking elsewhere. I can only theorize (and hope) that there could be an Accord Type-R at some point. But to be honest it wouldn't fill the gap in the same way. The beauty of the old model is that you could get the 2.0T with the fully loaded Touring trim. A Type-R wouldn't be that, and a more track-focused suspension would still be harsher than what you get on the Touring. It was just such a well-balanced option, and nothing in the current offering matches it.
You can thank the Biden Administration and the New Green Deal for that. Car manufacturers are adjusting to the Globalist new rules ahead of their 2030 deadline. And a few years after that, you won't be able to own your own personal vehicle anymore anyways so enjoy what you have now. #SadButTrue
The the new Accord looks clean af.. I hate the Accords previous models as the backend looks too similar to a 2013 civic backend but the new Accord's looks really good...
I was really hoping for a turbo hybrid, not sure why they can’t squeeze some more efficiency and power out of that 2.0. I know it was for cost but it’s still $40k!
This is my second time watching one of your videos and I love your style. Also, I could be mistaken but you have to be in the Central Coast in California, yea? This looks like Santa Ynez Valley lol have fun and stay safe!
I find it kinda funny that the engine bay on these Hondas has not changed one bit in the last 20 years. My 08 civic looks exactly like that minus the hybrid components. Same cat, same fill locations, same battery, same fuse box. Hell, even the hood release is the same.
Gotta be tough heading back to snowy, cold upper mid-west after sampling sunny CA and those twisties. Honda needs a redesign on that bland front, and this car would actually be desirable.
Picked up my 2023. Love the car but on my EX, the panel gaps are not Honda quality. In fact, at the back of the hood, it looks like the press got the angle wrong as it widens by a couple of millimetres compared to the rest of the hood gaps. It’s ascetics but someone in quality control had the day off when accepting the hoods
I like the styling, the interior updates, and the larger screen with google integration. But the CVT drone during the 0-60 test reminded me of my old Altima which I hated. Sad they had to sulley an otherwise fantastic offering with the CVT. Hyundai proved they could do a great hybrid with a traditional transmission with the Sonata Hybrid. Def a step backwards to me.
The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited is better looking, gets better gas mileage and has almost every option you can think of and to top it off, it has a much better warranty for the same price. Hyundai and Kia are absolutely killing it, go Korea!!
