The CRV is nice, but I like the Passport better. The Passport wasn't even on my radar until I saw one in the parking lot and was like, "What is that?" I love the size of it, the interior space without it having a 3rd row. I can't wait to see what the new redesigned Passport looks like, but I would still get the current model.
Moved from a 2019 CRV to a 2023 Passport Elite ($2000.00 off MSRP). I prefer the Passport for room, drive train, spare tire and comfort. Fuel mileage not a big issue.
@@raylaforest7030 V6 Engine (provides plenty of power), captain style front seats, a lot more truck space, gets great gas mileage for being a larger SUV. I’m getting 19-20 for mostly street driving. I see no difference in money spent at the pump compared to my ‘10 Accord I traded in. Just love the vehicle. A lot of fun to drive too.
i test drove a new crv and new passport back to back, and the winner is easily the passport. the seats are better, and the adjustable armrest is so nice on the highway. cargo space in the center is also a win. im hoping a refresh will update the front end and infotainment but other than that, the simple 9spd trans and amazing Honda 3.5 V6 work together beautifully.
We just drove a Passport last night and absolutely fell in love with it. Well. I did. My husband is a die hard Ford man. Me. I love the simplicity of the Hondas. The ONLY draw back is that there is no lumbar in the passenger seat.
@@davidandrews8007 Yes but not as much as I wanted. Knowing that there are people out there looking for Elements (and mine was a 5 spd. AWD EX trim) I thought they would have been more generous. Still got a decent deal though overall.
We just bought a new Honda. These are the 2 we looked at. I really dislike the new dash on the CRV. The vented look, but not actually vents is ridiculous. I like the rear look of the CRV, but the front of the Passport. I love love love the center console on the Passport. Also, it was important to us that the back seats lay down flat with the cargo area. I believe the CRV will do that, but with some extra effort to eliminate the hump. Finally, I love the push button. I came from a vehicle that had the shifter on the coumn, so it wasnt a big deal. I also know that not having a tradtional shifter is cleaner looking and gets that knob out of the way. We ended up buying a Passport. It was the size and smooth ride that did it for us. But I think the CRV is a great option at a lower price point.
'22 Honda Passport Trailsport here. One of the main reasons to get the Passport over the CRV is simply power. Yes it'll cost more in fuel and it'll be a bit more expensive MSRP but you're paying for a more fun sporty ride vs something "driveable". I was considering both vehicles but after test driving both, the Passport is straight up just more fun to drive. (If that's what your're looking for). If your priority is gas mileage, you know your answer. A couple other highlights is the Torque Vectoring AWD system on the Passport which makes the handling better than its mid sized SUV competitors (Grand Cherokee, Madza CX-5). Had the capability for some light offroading (Camping, backroad, softtrails) and it handles great in those conditions. You'll get more cargo out of the Passport and have the capability to tow if you and the fam have a camper or boat.
@@robwinemiller9712Econ varies for driver. Cant say for the passport, but I got 24 Crv hybrid and Econ makes my mpg worse because it’s less power which means more pressing on the accelerator. I assume the same thing applies to the passport, less power from Econ so more pushing on the accelerator which results in less mpg especially for highway driving.
yep, totally agree, finally got my passport, and tried the econ, and your exactly right, its worse. just driving normally from work, and around rural town, i get approx 26 mpg, highway have reached 28 mpg. very happy with for 6 cyl @@Jeffersondavies
Sold my wife 2021 Honda Civic Sport got her a 2023 Passport Ex-L. If you don't really want the fancy stuff. The Ex-L gives you more than you need. High mount driving, memory seating, Moon roof, leather seat. We got hers at 42.6k out the door. Honda gives a 3.9% APR right now. We did put a 20% down. Just watch for the Finance person! Make sure you read over the final cost before signing things as he will tac on GAP, Maintenance with out even telling you. I had to tell him to remove those.
I like the Pilot, Passport, and CRV. I don't need the 3rd row seating of a Pilot but I do like the towing capacity. The CRV only has a 4 cylinder and the towing capacity is minuscule. The Passport fits my needs - 2 row seating w/ towing capacity. The Pilot and the Passport share the same engine and 9 speed conventional trans. The CVT trans on the CRV is a deal killer.
As a single guy who likes to go on the occasional weekend adventure and don’t care for a third row oversized vehicle, but don’t want a girly CR-V or HR-V, I love the idea of a “rugged” 5 passenger, spacious, off-road capable Passport TrailSport, but I do like the fuel efficiency of the new CR-V hybrid… Hopefully Honda will redesign the Passport TrailSport with the same lines as the new Pilot but a shorter wheelbase, add the super capable torque vectoring I-VTM4 AWD system and keep the V6 engine or offer a hybrid option. That would be a sweet ride!
Crvs don’t look “girly” lol. They look just as manly as a passport. If anything they have more of a sport car look. Unless you’re suggesting that sportcars look “girly” 💀
Just traded in my 2019 Passport Touring for a new 2023 CR-V EX-L. Already loving the much better gas milage. The new CR-V is much larger than the previous model, so I'm really not missing the space I had in the Passport. Main reason for trading in the Passport was because of the infamous crackling, popping and failing infotainment system that Honda was unable to fix.
I had a 2017 CR-V with major infotainment issues. Had it replaced 4 times and still no fix. I’m now on my second Passport. The first passport had crackling (2020) and it was fixed with wiring. My 2022 now has 12k miles and I’ve had zero infotainment issues. It’s hit and miss
all of the Honda's are having problems with the infamous system. I can not tell you how many people I talk to that are having the same problem. One of my friends drives a new civic and one drives a new odyssey and I have also seen some reviews on the 2023 crv where customers are already complaining about the infamous system.
Actually bought a 2023 Passport Trailsport this past week and love it! I had been looking at the new CR-V but didn't like that it didn't have a spare tire, the rear seats don't fold completely flat like the Passports do and it can't tow anything; oh, and WAY more cargo space in the Passport. Once I had the chance to see one in person I was sold. MPG was the only thing against the Passport and I can live with that given I don't put that many miles on my car each year.
First, my short wife would really like a passenger power seat that will adjust up. Neither the CRV or the Passport offers that feature but she finds that the passenger seat in the Passport does seem to sit higher and offers a better view than the CRV. Second I dont care for the info screen that juts up out of the dash. I prefer the built in look and better view of the Passport. Thanks
I've had a CRV the buzzy turbo four cylinder engine and CVT transmission took away the fun of driving, although it did everything well. But the passport power train is a lot of fun and it's more comfortable. I found there is no comparison. Love the passport.
I want the Passport but the pricing, gas mileage and console are what is holding me back. If they had the same console and maybe a hybrid version with the same power, I'd go for the Passport
Thanks for the thoughtful comparison. Though I would prefer a hybrid, both the uneven floor and lack of underfloor storage in the CR-V are showstoppers for me, as I want the option to easily camp in my vehicle on weekends.
Got a 22 Passport Trailsport. Still feeling out the gas mileage… I don’t work too far from home, so it’s not too bad anyway. First vehicle out of the many cars I’ve had and in my 18 years of driving that I absolutely love to drive everyday. Sat in the new CRV, don’t like the fact that my legs are uncomfortable. Feels like I have no room. Was about to leave the dealership and they said they got something else I might like… the Passport. I was gonna pass. When they showed it to me, I was in love. It was the color my b/f and I always wanted… Sonic Gray. I never wanted the Passport. Then they told me the salesman I used to work with used to own it, I said give it to me. Obi bought a 23 Pilot. He’s regretting giving up the Passport. So I know it’s a damn good truck.
Just bought a 2023 Honda Passport. I would have got a pilot if it could have fit into my garage but it was just a tad too long. I like the cleaner dash with dials on the 23 pilot and how the screen sits. I have some regret for not waiting for the 24 but my wife really loved the 23 and with a kid on the way (due Feb) wanted the car sooner than later.
I personally prefer the powerful 3.5L v6 in the Pilot instead of the 2L hybrid in the CRV but detest the gear buttons. Give me a traditional gear shifter.
Currently have a 21 Passport EXL. Hate the pushbutton trans, leather, and mpgs. Looking at a 23 CRV Sport Hybrid. The way it drove just feels tighter. The PP leans and seems to be all over the place. I'm 6'4" and have plenty of room in both. The mpgs and cloth seats seem like a win to me.
I currently drive a CR-V and it's treated me well for years. In about 6 mo I will be in the market to buy a vehicle because I need something bigger. Not passenger capacity but cargo room. My first choice is a 4Runner but my 2 runner up choices are the Highlander and Passport. All 3 fit into that Goldilocks size for me. My buddy just got a 2020 Passport pre-owned. I gotta say.. it's a very nice vehicle. I do prefer an actual shifter rather than push buttons.. but Ill give the Passport a break as long as the system proves to have longterm reliability. The 4RUNNER is not feature rich.. but it's a vehicle you can keep forever. The highlander rates highly too. When Im ready to buy it will come down to availability and which dealer will be willing to negotiate hard with me..
I had a 22 CR-V Hybrid Turning and traded it in for a 22 Pasport elite. Love both, but wanted more room and ability to pull a trailer. For the record I have had 4 HR-V’s
Now that the CR-Vs only options are the nightmare oil diluted underpowered 1.5 turbo or the better 2.0 hybrid, I'll take the Passport. If the CR-V still offered the ultra reliable 2.4 it'd be a different story.
I have a 2019 Honda CRV. I drove the Passport 4 years ago and loved the extra power and room but it was new and very few were available so they were priced at a premium. The CRV has been okay, gets me to where I need to go with good gas mileage. I was disappointed that the air conditioning crapped out not long after the warranty expired but Honda made it right. But it's time to upgrade, I'm a big guy at 6'2' and would like the added room that the Pilot or Passport provides. I like the Pilot but I really don't need the 3rd row, it wouldn't get used. So that's why I have been researching the Passport again. The KIA Telluride actually seems like it's rated better and a better deal but I have read there are issues getting parts from Korea so I'll stick with the Honda if I do upgrade soon.
My wife recently wanted a new car, we looked at all the small/midsize SUV options. Settled on the ‘23 Passport EX-L. So far, I’ve been impressed with it. Main thing I didn’t like about the CRV was the CVT transmission, just seems unrefined compared to a traditional auto.
Passport is much better in a few areas that really count. Large interior space. V6 power. Advanced i-VTM4 torque vectoring AWD system for improved traction and cornering. 3500 Lbs towing or up to 5000 Lbs if properly [optionally] equipped. A real spare tire. Upper CR-V trims are Hybrid which ditch the spare tire. Big negative for us. I have the 2019 Passport Touring that I absolutely love. Wife's 2013 CR-V is nice too but she's looking to buy a new CR-V or possibly a Mazda CX-50 or maybe a Subaru Outback. A couple MPG fuel economy +/- either way is not a big factor for us. P.S. I'm waiting to see if Honda goes with their latest DOHC V6 in upcoming Passports like they did in the 2024 Pilot.
Wish Honda offered the CRV with the 3.5 V6 like how Toyota used to offer it in the RAV4. I have a 2011 RAV4 with the V6 and not sure what I’ll adequately replace it with when the time comes.
Great video and one that will be looked at by many folks faced with this situation. One good use for the Passport footboard that I see is while washing the top of the car.
Dumping our 21 PP EXL for a 23 CRV Sport Hybrid today! Reasons, CRV gets 2x the mpgs, Honda leather is garbage, push button transmission. Sure the Passport has more cargo space but the fact that it is inclined is not convenient. Back seat room is very similar on both. I will miss the stereo in the PP. But that can be dealt with later.
As of right now, it looks like the 2024 Passport will be a carryover model. Honda typically puts out information on redesigned vehicles early in the year and has not said anything about a full redesigned Passport for 2024. I was hoping to see a full redesign but it looks like it will be the 2025 model year instead.
Although it says CVT on the windowsticker, it doesn't have a CVT. It's driven, mostly by an electromotor ( the gas-engine funtions a a generator) the gasengine drives the wheels through a, single-speed, fixed gear only between ~50-80 Mph.
Honda won’t do it. Their investors want best fuel mileage. Honda is even cutting corners now and using cheaper parts due to inflation and parts shortage. With all the banks that are about to tumble, US car market is gonna tumble extremely hard. We’ve known this for a while. So Honda is focused on savings and fuel economy.
standard style shifter over push button any day. Also integrated screens into the dash as appreciated. Screens that sit above your view of the hood & the road are NOT appreciated.
Passport wins for cargo capacity & more rugged versatility. CR-V wins for overall design & fuel economy. Passport push button shifter is the only real downside. Two reasons : 1) lack of safety & convenience. With a push button shifter, you have take your eyes off the road to operate. Imagine trying to make a 4-5 point turn getting in or out of a tight space. Not motion-friendly. 2) The push button location is accident waiting to happen - when someone accidentally spills their Big Gulp or chocolate milk shake on it. 😅 Console electronics are never friends with sticky drinks. Be safe.
The passport is definitely a better one to buy. It’s all wheel drive system is a lot more capable than the CRV. Hence is why I bought a 2023 passport. it’s definitely an amazing vehicle.
If you need to tow, get the Passport. Otherwise the CRV is a better value proposition especially with the hybrid. There is more room in the Passport but the fuel economy doesn't make up for it completely. Also, the CRV is a much smoother drive and nicer interior.
I wasalso looking for CRV but ended up buying the Passport that VTEC V6 is juast an amazing engine,,,Besides PAssport not the greatest seller...dealer took 4500 off MSRP....then i was sold
you see, these car companies always do something backward. Why would the passport have the front hood lift support like the CRV?? and why not a hybrid for the passport???
The CR-V is the logical option. For people complaining about “You can’t tow with the CR-V” or “It’s not enough room”, all you have to do to correct those issues you have with the CR-V is upgrade your package to the “Sport Touring” (which is still cheaper than the passport btw), and with the “Sport Touring” version you get the option to add a trailer hitch, a little more space, and not to mention It’s better on fuel (you get a whopping 40mpg). The CR-V is the most logical option, and again you can get everything you want that the passport has for a much cheaper price tag than the passport.
One has a CVT, therefore all other comparisons are not needed. CVTs do not last as long as regular automatics. Even if on average they did, the cost of repair is double. On average those who purchase CVT based vehicle eventually must drink the wallet draining Cool-aid.
Well, if you look up “2025 Honda Passport Redesign”, there is actually a prototype model which will still use V6 and might be a 2.0 4 cylinder option too. It is still on road testing hence the black paper all around it. It also looks boxier, bigger and aggressive looking too.
Love my 2017 CRV exl. Do not like the 2023 design of dash. But next one is Passport for me. Pref Trailsport. You can get 2022 cheaper. Passport is underated in looks but I think of it as a muscle and real utility car. No led on high beam and carplay needs USB. Both fixable.
my review: One is bigger, taller, more powerful, uses more fuel as it isn't hybrid- period Reviewer: taillights are prettier, this bodyline is horizontal, mirrors reflect....
compact suv: HRV -- regular SUV: CR-V -- giant SUV: Passport Why are we comparing mama bear to papa bear? Passport is for those too shy to go for Expedition, Tahoe, Suburban, Escalade...
The new CRV restyled front end looks too square and ugly the interior looks like the same from the accord and civic. After owning a 2016,18,20 CRV I took a hard pass and went right to the Passport don’t regret that decision one bit. The pricing is misleading in this video due to the models shown a CRV EXL will be closer to the 36/38 k price range my new Passport I picked up for 40k it is the EXL AWD model love the ride and room.
