I had no problems updating the ride commander software via built in cellular but ran into a problem updating the map software on my 2023 Indian Chief Bobber Dark Horse. Actually, 2 problems. One was the map update error as soon as I would try to update it. I knew the map update was likely a corrupt file. I used some tools from my daily ops bag to validate the md5sums of the map update file i downloaded to my computer did not match the md5sum of the file on the SD card. Simple fix, delete the file in the card and copy it using better process like rsync. That fixed that problem. The second problem was that after the map update, navigation would never load on ride commander even though everything else seemed to be working. It would get stuck on "navigation loading". I suspected that the same cellular connection on ride commander is too weak at my location and might be causing this. So the next day I jumped on the bike and rode around for 45 minutes and that still didn't fix it. So I called the dealership and spoke with service and they told me to try to download the map update file again. So I did that, also making sure to validate the file downloaded on my computer and the file on the sd card after copying it and thats when I found the problem .... when my LINUX computer copied the file, it said the file copy was completed. But what I found using the sync command along with iostat was that even after linux said it was done copying, it was still writing data to the disk. So waiting several minutes for that to complete and then doing the md5sums again to validate they matched, and then upgrading it ... worked.
Here are the commands i used to validate the files and also copy them to the sd card (there are probably binary files available for mac and windows if you want to use this process):
New downloaded version is:
$ ls -la
rw-rw-r- 1 user user 27074906112 Apr 27 14:18 On-Road_NA_20220923*.mapdata
$ md5sum On-Road_NA_20220923*.mapdata
c42a5279b29ead1adfa7bbd85bca7c51 On-Road_NA_20220923*.mapdata
transfer from computer to usb stick
$ rsync -av On-Road_NA_20220923*.mapdata /media/username/drive_id/On-Road_NA_20220923*.mapdata
sending incremental file list
On-Road_NA_20220923*.mapdata
sent 27,081,516,370 bytes received 35 bytes 113,075,225.07 bytes/sec
total size is 27,074,906,112 speedup is 1.00
check md5sum of usb stick
$ md5sum /media/username/drive_id/On-Road_NA*.mapdata
c42a5279b29ead1adfa7bbd85bca7c51 /media/username/drive_id/On-Road_NA*.mapdata
it matches downloaded version
attempt install
install worked
navigation now loads

the first error that said "map error" was due to a corrupted file on the sd card, the second time although the file wasn't corrupted it was bad in some other way so it caused the "navigation loading" to get stuck, after calling the dealership they recommended to regenerate the map file so I did and flashing a 3rd time worked.

Just got my CDH and was updating my maps and ran into the same damn issue. Thanks for posting this! Saved me a bit of time messing with it 🤘

@@sharpridgehomestead You as well, and have to say the CDH has been the most fun bike I've owned so far, plenty of power and liking the touchscreen instrument a lot.

@@someguywithabeard5886 same, I've owned a LOT of bikes over the years and this bobber has been the smoothest riding bike and the lower center of gravity makes it handle super well. I also love the classic oldschool bobber look with the added technology just really sets it off. I had a harley guy checking it out the other day and I had to turn the display on and off a few times so he could watch it start up. And plenty of power too even factory. I just uploaded a video last night after I put some shorty gp pipes on it ... I really wish a cell phone could capture the sound better ... but it was a difference night and day in sound, plus shed a few pounds and it seems a lot more responsive now (if thats even possible because throttle was pretty responsive to begin with). Totally happy so far.

@@sharpridgehomestead where'd you order your pipes from?

@@someguywithabeard5886 so I've watched about every exhaust video on the 116 indian motor and one thing I noticed was a lot of bikes had shorty exhaust on them. I know that often cell phones, go pros, etc dont have the best audio sound because I used to play in a band so I was keeping that in mind. But the pipes are so cheap (like literally slightly more than $100), I figured i would buy them just to hold me over until I decided what I wanted and plus everyone else was telling me I was looking at 4-8 weeks turn around time to receive the others I was looking at....amazon was only 2 days. So I ordered them from amazon and now that I have them installed, I think I am done looking for exhaust .... especially when others I was looking at are $1400 - $2500. They sound awesome. In the video I uploaded yesterday on them, I linked to them in the description but you just got to keep in mind they sound way better in person than they sound on this video (plus only took 19 minutes to install them). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uSMtqfxz3mk.html

@@sharpridgehomestead I've had this bike for 9 months, I've also had an HDiron for years and to my disappointment I haven't been able to feel as comfortable and authentic on the Indian as on the Iron. On the Indian I mostly notice a rough ride in the first three gears. I've also noticed when you stop accelerating the bike brakes very roughly without even touching the brake. Other than this, it lacks some character, no vibration, no sound, no feeling... On the good side, I can say that the acceleration is brutal and that it is a beautiful motorcycle with a lot of quality in detail. The GPS also stops working randomly and I have to take the bike to have it checked. Do you notice this bike better than all your previous ones? Which ones did you have?

@@wotankrieg so far I haven't noticed any of the issues you mentioned, with the shorty pipes it sounds pretty mean and on a recent trip I had a whole group of harley riders come over and check it out at a gas station. It could use a better camshaft to get that loping sound everybody loves. I've had numerous cruisers and street bikes over the last 35 years ... I probably can't remember them all but a few are suzuki m109 touring, yamaha 920, kawasawki 900, honda 750, harley dyna, harley sportster. It handles as well as any of them, power and torque is as good as the m109, and with the shorty pipes it sounds as good as any of the harleys I have owned. I think mine so far has been a great bike and I love the classic look with the technology so far.
