Summer is definitely heating up here in Southern California Zone 9! I'm trying to stay cool by working in the garden earlier in the day which means I have a little extra "help" right now! Some highlights this month include the apple trees, indeterminate tomatoes, and some unique looking peppers (what do you think it is??). I'm also looking forward to our pluot trees being ready to harvest soon. What are you growing in your garden right now? And what are you doing to beat the heat?
I hope you're having a wonderful summer and enjoying whatever is growing in your garden right now. As always, thanks for joining me and I'll see you next time!
Check out the Not Quite Homesteading-ESK Garden channel for some more garden inspiration from the other coast! ‪@palmsandsand‬

I saw your content in my algorithm. I'm excited to see new gardeners, I am a first time container gardener...so help is well needed. Thank you 😊 I just subscribed....and yes I planted zinnias a few days ago... anyway I will be binge watching your channel.

Thanks for watching! We learn something new every year no matter how long we’ve been gardening (I love this about gardening). I started out in containers and still love using them. I hope we can learn from each other!

if you harvest the greens off of your onions it will help make bigger bulbs
@herhomeandharvest
@herhomeandharvest Год назад
Yes, I should have done that more! I was doing that earlier in the year but just got lazy as the heat picked up. I planted these bulbs about 4 inches apart though so I shouldn’t have been surprised that some didn’t bulb up 😅.

The pepper looks kind of like a poblano pepper.

What an abundant harvest! ❤ you’ve inspired me to really focus more on food production next year so all the water I’m using in the heat of TX is worth it 😅 I’m not sure for certain but I’m thinking the mystery bell pepper could be a poblano or Anaheim pepper! Yummy 💕

Thank you! And I would love if it’s an Anaheim pepper! I love those and they’re pricey in stores. Stay cool out there! I know the weather is a little toasty there right now ☀️🔥

Great use of your land with all those plants. If you have the time/desire, it would be great if you could sample some of those pluots on camera. I have no idea what is considered an ideal pluot. I get them from the grocery store and some are very soft and others are firm. I don't know which ones are ideal, but I prefer the firm ones for the crispy texture.

Thank you! I have a video on my pluot trees from last year that shows me cutting into the dapple dandy pluot but I plan on making another one this year so stay tuned! I’ll try to show more of the fruit in the new video. The funny thing about pluots is that it really depends on the variety when it comes to soft/firm and coloring. The Dapple Dandy tend to be softer when ripe and more red while the Flavor Grenade are much more crispy and often yellow. My grocery store never labels what kind they are so it definitely makes it hard to choose! More often than not the stores out here are selling the Dapple Dandy variety (nicknamed “dinosaur eggs”). They have a pretty speckled color and round shape.

@Sidneytx Год назад
@@herhomeandharvest I will check out your video from last year. I know the grocers here do the same thing regarding labels. Even though there are many different types of each fruit, they try to combine them all in one bag or clam shell. I guess they don't want consumers wasting time trying to see if flavor supreme is better than dapple dandy. Just pack em all together and call them dino eggs.
@herhomeandharvest
@herhomeandharvest Год назад
@@Sidneytx Yep! My hope is that they’ll start separating them more once they become more popular. At my local farmers market they already do. Farmers markets is where I learned about pluots in the first place!
