This is the 2023 Kia Mohave, the flagship SUV from Kia. You guys have Kia Telluride in North America, unfortunately, we don’t, but we have Kia Mohave here in Korea. Yes, this is the successor of Kia Borrego which was shortly sold in North America between the years 2009 and 2010. Being body on frame structure and powered by 3.0L v6, this 2023 Kia Mohave feels completely different compared to Kia Telluride. So, let’s see if this new Kia Mohave is better than your Kia Telluride.

That intro was so clean and smooth I thought it was an Ad. The name Mohave is way better than Borrego, that name could be one of the reasons why it did so poorly in the U.S.

The borrego failed in the US because it came out during the economic recession and oil prices where at all time highs during that time. American consumers were looking for more fuel efficient vehicles at the time. I will admit Kia should of gave it more time and it might of had a better fate.

It's good that most of the korean vehicles are coming with lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control. Love to see how much better these control mechanisms become with the next generation.

I just bought the 2010 Kia Mohave V8 Engine 4.6L. I never owned a Kia before, let alone this big engine, but man, I love it. It's smooth, quick, and great family friendly SUV. I have so much respect for Kia/Hyundai Motors.

I really wish KIA brought this one back to the USA. I owned a 2009, EX V8 4WD trim, with the ZF 6 speed gearbox, and, aside from the horrid fuel economy, it was a fantastic suv. Unfortunately, last year a person ran a red light and crashed onto my beloved Borrego (name in USA market) and it was a total loss. You can still find good used Borregos throughout the USA, but right now most are quite pricey. I'm hoping KIA's upcoming large electric suv is a worthy replacement. Great review, as usual! Keep up the good work. 🙂👍🏼

Great interior!! I think the exterior might need tweaking for the American market to be successful, but i think this shows where the telluride interior will be going in the refresh. Kia does amazing work, hope they invest more in the us market. Great vid as always!

I certainly hope that Kia is not going that way with regards to Telluride interior. Personally I find the Mohave interior a tad old fashioned. Telluride is much more modern and refined in 2022 model.

Great review as always Charlie! What really annoys me with all Kia's is that they don't put LED bulbs EVERYWHERE, inside and out. They look so much more modern and cleaner. I replaced mine on my 2022 Sportage - glove box, personal lamps, numberelplate and rear fog lights. Really easy to do and cost me no more than £20. Anyone who wants to know how to do it let me know (note I am NOT an ebay seller looking for a cheap plug!)

Good review Charlie! Funny you didn't mention that this is actually a refreshed Kia Mohave! Kia has changed the suspension to make it more comfortable. They changed all the logos. They changed the interior colors. They also tweaked the engine. It's now a bit less powerful, but cleaner than before. I love this Mohave!

I have a 2009 Borrego (Mohave) myself, and the 4x4 has gotten me through the worst Michigan winters, and has also gotten me through the toughest Colorado off road trails. It does great on the off road areas in the Leelenau Dunes. It’s a natural on that. The Telluride would never cut it on those off road trails.

Yes, Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade feels more like road driving Crossovers, but this 2023 Kia Mohave is more like true body on frame structure based SUV. Thanks Arron.

I bought a new V8 Borrego EX in 2010 and kept it for 10 years. It could tow 7500 lbs. This should be stretched and made into a mid sized pickup truck with gas, diesel, and hybrid options.

Kia should bring this to Indonesia to compete with Mitsu Pajero Sports, Toyota Fortuner, Nissan Terra, and Ford Everest. Hyundai brought Palisade but not really head to head with them.

What an amazing SUV! Too bad we don’t that here in the US. It’s sad that the only body on frame SUV still and only available is the Toyota 4Runner. I’m not saying is bad is just the style has been the same for over 20 years. This model however would make a great competitor. Kia you have a future client should you bring the Mojave to our shores

I would much rather have this Mohave than the Telluride we have here. The Telluride is made on the unibody Sedona/Carnival platform, and it looks like a minivan. This Mohave, is way more robust with its body on frame architecture. I also prefer the powertrain in the Mohave. By the way, the Borrego was discontinued for poor sales, but the automotive press really liked it back in 2009. The 4.6l V8 was powerful, it could tow a lot and had a very comfortable ride. It just came out at a really bad time. Thank you for providing us nice reviews, always interesting to see what you have in Korea.

Even the old model (I used to have a 2009) was RWD biased. It has a 2H, 4H/Auto, 4L knob, and when in 2WD (rear drive) you could make it's tail swing-happy!

@@DeadAir21 agree, but Telluride is not the same kind of SUV as this one since this is a body on frame SUV vs Telluride is a monocoque chassis. Completely different build and chassis strength.

@@elgonza69 I get that but In the US demand for body on frame SUV’s is still relatively low especially for mid size ones. They’re heavier, less fuel efficient and more expensive. And trying to compete in that limited space with the 4Runner, Wrangler, and Bronco they will struggle to get market share.

I currently drive a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder in the states, but if they launch this SUV in the US, I would test drive it and perhaps purchase it as long as it drives pretty decent. I really like the boxy exterior design of the Mohave. I just love boxy/squarish SUVs, and that's one of the biggest reasons for buying the brand new Pathfinder.

If u make the spear on the back on two bar connected/mounted under rear, it does two things it get it out of rear hatch opening &&&& it protects the rear of the car if u r hit in the rear greatly lowering damage Plus u hve a table or ledge to work or sit on adding a table on top of spare.

Hello Charlie, hope all is well. That looks a little like the Honda Passport. I like it. I just wish KIA would make an SUV with beefier wheels and more ground clearance for outdoor use. I like to go to the mountains and spend the night in the woods, this Kia has nice features to relax and sleep in it, but it’s built for city slickers. Haha Thank you for sharing.

If the little metal clips come 2 1/2 & by turning 180 degs open clam to clamped around vines u can just pre cut too link u lock it on & together, sandwiching lock closed.

The Key to clean 30percent clean combustion is compressed air to help mix fuel b4 exploding it way less fuel each burn, other is star* cut/stamped fine lines into top of cylinder piston face so u get micro better mixing of fuel & air< KEY>!

hving a way to hve the folded spare tire allow a easy add bike rake so long as car sits high enough off the ground. Ideally to GOD u make 1 bike between space behind the tire & the second bike fit added on to tire furthest rear, so u get best sizing & protection back of car.

I always wondered why KIA North America decided on a Telluride for our market and not the Mohave. It is a way better looking vehicle on the outside. Yes a wee bit smaller but you gotta love the front and rear if that truck. Maybe if and when KIA redesigns the Telluride for 2024, it will have the best of both models combined into one. KIA has come a long way and here in Canada, sales are very strong. 😊👍👍👌

kia really should. the only competitors are the 4 runner really. body on frame low range 4wd 3 row midsized suv is really something i would have bought over my explorer. the 4 runner has 3 rows but the 3rd row is about useless for anything bigger than a small child. i attempted to set in ones third row and could not fit. it looks like the mohave has much more room in the back.

The unions out there really try to make a good vehicle and Hyundais and Kia’s made in Korea are some of the most reliable models generally with less issues than ones made outside of Korea so I don’t blame them

I'd love to have this over the Telluride!! The Telluride is nice, don't get me wrong!! With the Telluride i wish it offers 5 seater 😋 I'll take the Palisade over the Telluride! Because of interior ... exterior Telluride I like the rear wheel bias drive train!!

I think Kia should take the Borrego nameplate to N. America and make it an off road brand like Ford does with Bronco or how Stellantis does with Jeep. What do you think Charlie?

The interior plastics and meterials looks better than the Toyota Highlander. I bought a 2019 Highlander due to overall quality and reliability.

Future models will hve UP TO nearly hve the volume of the compression to move cylinders W/ compressed air ultra high presser 70 plus-to 110 lbs so massively clean perfect fuel air mix at fraction of pollution. Volume air storing & charging vs lots of battery smack.
