I now have 10 hours ride time on my 2023 KTM 300XC and I still believe this might be the best "does it all" off road bike available this year! Over the past couple weeks I've ridden my new '23 300XC in the woods, tight trails, fire roads, and vet moto and this all new throttle body fuel injected 300cc engine never stops impressing me. The engine is so powerful and responsive (I call Map 2 Beast mode) yet able to run down to what feels like zero RPM, lug up a hill, and then cleanly rip through the gears including 6th gear wheelies. This engine has impressive partial throttle linear torque response and smooth/strong low to mid power. Throttle body fuel injection with an electronically controlled power valve works. Map 1 offers the same big power but a little slower throttle response but I would not call it a mild map. I am running the recommended 60:1 mix with Motorex 2-stroke oil.
The XC suspension setting works well for a wide range of terrain. The forks offer 38 clicks of adjustment and don't be afraid to use them along with pressure changes to suit the trails or track. The stock clicker settings worked well on a groomed moto track with little fore/aft pitch under braking and acceleration. For trails I open the clickers up and if the trails are tight I lower the AER fork pressure. The suspension responds well to clickers and don't be afraid to open them up. I would like a little more slow speed chop compliance but perhaps that will come with a little more break in time.
The low engine inertia/low engine braking combined with the lightweight of the 300XC makes for a responsive and quick handling bike that is playful in the woods yet stable at speed. The ergos are spot on with excellent rider contact with the sides of the bike. The seat height is a little taller on this new layout. Brembo brakes are strong. The Dunlop AT81 rear tire has good traction with a compliant carcass while the Dunlop MX33 front tire works well.
This all new 300cc TBI engine has really grabbed my attention. Free feeling quick revving 2-stroke style power with strong linear 4-stroke like torque in a 2-stroke engine that runs crisp and clean all the time with no jetting...this is an impressive engine and simply so much FUN to ride! Yea this all new '23 300XC really does do it all!

Love the small details they’ve added also..,like the small ledge on the swingarm to hold the wheel spacer when installing the rear axel. Makes it alot easier. Looking forward for Saturday for some seat time!😊

Enjoy that new bike! Run the recommended 60:1 mix (I use Motorex 2-stroke per the manual) and enjoy that TBI power....Green Map is FUN!!!

Between you and highland cycles, you sold me. Got mine last sat and what a difference between this and my (still corked) 350 EXCF. Absolutely rips comparatively, even in the white map.

I honestly don't know if I want a 300 tpi or 300 tbi. On paper I feel like I'd prefer the TBI but I watch videos like this and guys absolutely love TPI. I'll make my mind up this summer.

No wrong choice! The power character is a little different between TPI and TBI. The all new TBI engine with electronic power valve has stronger partial throttle torque with a more classic 2-stroke style of quick response. MXA test on the 23 300SX shows 55hp at the rear wheel so the 300 TBI engine makes a lot of power - more power than the TPI engine. TPI runs very clean with oil injection and quick throttle response with a little less power and torque which can be more controllable in the woods on trails. Hopefully you get a chance to ride both and decide. Here is one of my TPI and TBI comparison rides... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V2OXQ6XRUKM.html. 300 XC TBI over the TPI all day long. The TPI bikes run hot and pretty lean. With the TBI there’s no oil injector to replace or fail. Gonna buy the 2024 or 2025 300 XC TBI with spring forks in late 2024 👍

Do you feel that air forks will be left stock for you? Seems like this bike with a KYB cartridge kit or WP6500 kit would make it proper trail, single track, woods bike? What do you think?

I just moved the WP Cone Valve spring forks from my Erzberg 300 to my '23 300XC....ride report and video to be loaded soon!

You said that your running 9.7 bar in the forks, so how much do you weigh? I'm 175 and with 2.5 hours on the bike I'm still breaking the suspension in.
@mxengineer1
@mxengineer1 Год назад
I have run 8.0 bar (slow woods riding) and mostly run 9.7 bar in the forks for faster trails and Vet slow moto. The WP suspension really started to break in around 4.5 hours and felt pretty good at 10 hours. I just installed my WP cone valve forks the other day. Will post a video soon!

when the suspension holds you back and that bothers you then do an upgrade.

Just picked up my 300xc here in Wyoming. Unfortunately the dealership messed with turning the yellow cold start knob to adjust idle. Now it starts but when you disengage cold start with throttle it stalls. I know manual says idle adjust is red knob. Any easy way to find factory setting for yellow cold start knob so I can set the proper idle other than going back an fouth?
@mxengineer1
@mxengineer1 Год назад
Congratulations on your new bike! I am not sure the cold start has anything to do with the idle - just try turning the red idle knob to get proper idle speed. You could check with another dealer/technician to see if there is some correct number of turns on the yellow cold start knob (there was on the 4-stroke EFI bikes years ago). Usually if the cold start clicks off when you turn the throttle forward the adjust of the cables is correct.

@@mxengineer1 Thanks for the advice, will do. It's snowing out an 25 degrees today here in Wyoming so I'm not going to open the garage door lol. I will go over every nut an bolt an be sure it's torxed an check chain tension today an play with red idle knob tomorrow when it warms up some.. Think its supposed to be 45 tomorrow. I 'm not impressed with my local dealer who is 5 minutes away but next closest is 2 hours away in Rapid city. Thought I'd help out a small town local business but sometimes that backfires on ya. Love your channel. Keep up good work.

I have the same five flash on mine do I have to get it cleared will it cause anything you think
@mxengineer1
@mxengineer1 Год назад
I rode my '23 KTM 300XC with the five flash multiple times and the performance was fine (start up, power, etc). Got the code cleared and ran the same. Then got the EFI map updated recently (the "104" map) and the bike runs the same and now I can push the starter button while the engine is running without causing the five flash code. Get your bike to the dealer have have the code cleared and map updated.

I sick of KTM fukking around with all kinds of different suspension. Every year every model they need to find what works and go with it on all models..like yamaha

@@craigsteinman9807 This new 300 TBI engine sets the bar for 2-stroke performance - it really is an amazing engine. The latest WP suspension is very rideable and works well and also needs a good 10~12 hours to break in. The 300 TBI engine will make you smile!

@@mxengineer1 hopefully you get a shot to ride a 300sx and give us your comparison between the sx and xc..when u say the new motor sets the bar that is gold ..your word holds alotta weight with me thank you for all you do sir
@mxengineer1
@mxengineer1 Год назад
@@craigsteinman9807 The SX suspension setting will have a little more progressive feel and hold up on bigger inputs (like jump faces) while the XC setting is a little softer valving (not much) but moves a tick more...this has been my experience with XCF vs SXF valving in the 22 model bikes. Engine specs are the same (SX/XC 300) except for the 6 speed which works fine on the moto track (3rd/4th are perfect). My long time buddy down south just picked up a new 300SX - he is very skilled (ex-Pro level guy) and was happy with the stock 300SX suspension (and engine) out of the box.
