Yeah, but I think they just went too conservative. If it only gets 25mpg highway, that’s cool as long as it has 400-500hp. But to need almost 6sec to get to 60mph and be a hybrid, and still only have 360hp for about $70k is not workable in this market

@@DailyMotor maybe next time without wind and warm weather? Never forget, thats a 2,1t SUV with 374HP and NOT the normal Hybrid transmission.

Acura MDX will do similar MPG with similar performance without needing the hybrid. That’s the point, that the hybrid hasn’t delivered gr8 results. MDX also has 7 seats

@@Gareebaa84 the hybrid system makes this car more responsive than the Acura because you get instant boost from that hybrid power plant it’s similar to what they put in Ferraris so you have a much more immediate powertrain response than in the MDX.

@@Gareebaa84 the point is, one again this is not a hybrid in the sense of a Prius. This was not engineered to achieve better miles per gallon. The hybrid system in this vehicle has a strict purpose This is exactly the point of my original comment. You guys are hearing hybrid, and thinking efficiency. This is not for that Ferrari is doing the same thing with the hybrid system and no one‘s talking about their miles per gallon because that’s not what it’s engineered for if you want a hybrid that’s for achieving the best miles per gallon you go for the 450h model not the 500h

Yeah, we debated on the winds. Returning in the opposite direction should help cancel it out, but it still probably played a factor.

I thought so too. Do you think the 350h is much better in terms of the mpg? I own a tesla that I use mostly around town and a 2018 rx350L non-hybrid. My rx is increadibly comfortable and the gas consumption isn't bad nor great. Calgary I get about 13L/100km (18mpg) around town in heavy traffic. On a highway it's about 24mpg. I was looking to upgrade the lexus to the rx500h later on, hoping that the new hybrid would be both more fun to drive (I know that 500h can accelerate) and not sipping gas that much. I was dissapointed though to learn that the new rx500h mpg is not far off my '18 non-hybrid rx long version. It makes no sense to upgrade then, I would surely appreciate the much better acceleration in the 500h but at the same time I use the RX as a cruiser for longer comfy trips. If I want to accelerate I jump in my tesla and boi, it goes and no RX can beat it. So overall later on I may lean towards the new RX350h to use it as a cruiser too, and trade-off the performance if I don't need it that much. What do you think, did you try both new 350h and 500h?

@@MrDomestosWC I didn’t consider the 350h, but for your situation that’s probably perfect.

Driving super conservative I got 36 mpg driving 120 miles split between city and highway traffic and no city and highway traffic. I had to try hard to achieve that so it was super realistic, more so the absolute potential. I think 30 mpg is realistic.

2 years ago I thought they will put 3.5L turbo V6 from LS in the new RX. But as I see they not only made V6 exclusive to LS and Land Cruiser/Tacoma/Sequoia, but downgraded RX. By the way, RX 400h gang here, 165k km))) Now the new RX is not on my list because they removed V6. The CX 90 with Inline-6 looks much more appealing

It's a sports hybrid go for the other hybrid versions for better mpg

The 500h is a performance hybrid, so its built for power. The 350h and 450h+ are efficiency hybrids and will deliver much better results.

X BMW onwer here - all the extra money u will save in efficiency in BMW X5 is no where near the amount you will loose on servicing, repairs and depreciation. BMWs are money pits. No doubt they ultimate driving machines but not worth the headache. They are mostly good for people who live in 10C to 30 C weather as they can't withstand extreme weathers long term. Sensors start to malfunction, plastic parts start cracking and leaking. Time chains expand/break. Not worth the headache unless u are a BMW fanboy.

Being a performance hybrid, the economy of the 500h quite impressive. The 350h and 450h+ are built for efficiency, so they will have better results.

It's remarkably quiet. One of the quietest cars we've driven.

This was a pre production model and the sound system tuning wasn’t finalized. It had some weird aspects but sounded good

@@DailyMotor So it's a pre-production...and that in no way affects the MPG?

@@planetfabulous5833 Admittedly, it could have. But OEMs have to submit final EPA tuning way before they'd have to have a sound system finalized, so we are assuming it's good to go. Plus we're not guaranteed to get another RX500h again any time soon.

Its not meant to be a hybrid for MPG- thats the 350H. Its hybrid for performance. Its the fastest production RX.

@@VanguardX That confuses me even more... why would they need a hybrid to improve performance. A regular turbo boost will do the job, doesn't it...

@@sambathvenkatesan618 No, there is always a delay. Turbo's are not so great with initial acceleration, electric motors are. So the electric motors put in some power for that split second while the turbo builds boost. A lot of companies are doing this- Porsche 918, Cayenne Turbo E, BMW XM, etc. Its a very good combination and the future of all ICE setups.

There is red interior, the reviewer just has a model with black interior
