I've been involved with sound tuning vehicles in the past. Unfortunately, it's all subjective, with the OEMs I've worked with, and preferences vary between project managers. So, even though the system is physically similar, it may have been compromised by personal preference. It's been frustrating when I've worked on systems which I know have a lot more potential than what they're delivered with...
I wish I could be a sound engineer or whatever for car manufactures. I'd take a 1994 Chrysler concorde with the infinity sound system and say. Thats what it needs to sound like. Make it happen.
Thanks for another excellent video. Was really looking forward to your CS-50 review. I think if Mazda sold the CX-50 as a hybrid system it would be a home run!
AS dj and producer I will give my input. I have 2014 Mazda with Bose 7 speaker setup. The Bose system is much better than basic system but still lacks in many places, First all all. Even in lower quality car audio we can find Mid EQ adjustment.Amp lacks possibly 20% output. When going up with volume it starts roll off low end.I find it unacceptable on " premium sytstem." Door speakers are low power ( quickest way is to look at magnets, small magnet, small coil to move membrane=low power).Door speakers lack some mid frequancies ( 200-500hz) also door speakers ( woofers) do not come lower than 60hz where a lot of sub frequencies sit .This is very important to those who listen rap, hip hop, electronic dance music. Some notes will not be reproduced and music will feel empty and thin.
I don't have a direct comparison, but when I test drove a 2023 CX-5, my impression was almost the opposite. That "sharpness" is caused by the infamous Bose "hole in the middle" or lack of mid range. IMHO, the system should have an expanded range of tone controls. After all, it's only software. Three-band or , better yet, graphic EQ with the ability to save settings for various types of music would make a dramatic improvement. Also, as usual, Bose chose to go with a "fake" woofer that doesn't really cover the low frequencies, but uses psycho-acoustics to trick the ear of an untrained listener into thinking they're actually hearing the bass frequencies. I do, however, credit Bose for the pristine high end of the spectrum.
100% ... the bose sound is a shitty one. This is a good car stereo but the mid range hole and boomy bass I agree could be solved if bose wasnt doing usual bose. Have some mids.
Also amazing review on the cx-50 my friend was going to get one then the one they was going to get got stolen and they crashed it so he didn’t get it but great job
Listening through HD-6XX's on a Schiit amp/dac setup, pretty impressive coming from Mazda and Bose in a first generation vehicle, based off of the CX-30. Can't wait to get my CX-50, did the Turbo Premium Plus, same setup. Road trips are gonna be real comfortable :P
Lol I saw Saline and I was like wait... Then noticed this was my local highway area. Thanks for reviewing this, looking at the vehicle and I wanted to know how the sound system was. I feel like I may have test drove this same car from Sesi Mazda lol
I completely agree. While it's not perfect, it's a massive improvement over the base systems in my previous luxury cars, so I am quite happy with it overall. I do find that the bass can be a bit boomy on certain songs but you cannot expect much from a spare tire sub that's under the rear floor. Would have been nicers with a little more tuning options and a real sub that could produce some tighter base though. But as I said, it's pretty good.
We just test drove the cx5 and cx50 both with max trim. There was a night and day difference - 50 being worse. But maybe the sound needed to be tuned..?
I really like very much your music selections. Where do you get them? By the way, I love the Bose system in my 2020 Mazda3 GT AWD but I’ve made reservations to trade this for the 2023 CX-50 GT Turbo. Thanks for your great video. Appreciate that.
What a nice review tho why can you tell me have manufacturers stopped putting tweeters to the rear these days Now it’s becoming harder to find a good stereo AND tweeters to the rear for me personally it feels like the sound is missing like it’s been not infront of me Nice of you to share me en the motor doesn’t look to bad on the inside
Because from an audiofile perspective, sound should come from the front. Like a stage would be in front of you. Sound from the rear is more to just give an effect and fill the space. Also, Bass is not in frequencies that ears pick up from a directional sound point, so it's not an issue to have lower frequencies coming from the rear.
Guess you haven't look around they all do that ,Honda Passport Subaru wilderness, toyota 4/ runner ,the more off road pkg you get the crappier the sound system
