Hi Guys and Gals.
Well, I've had the 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX for 9 months now and thought I'd give you an update on how it's performing.
Buying this bike has been one of the best decisions I've ever made.
It's an awesome machine. Premier in so many aspects concerning its design. This bike has helped me become a better rider. I don't go nuts when pushing this bikes limits (at least the limits with which I'm comfortable) and have found that taking those limits just a tad further is the best way for me to learn. Once I'm comfortable with a certain limit I've pushed, I can be confident in pushing it a bit more next time out. For me, it's the best way of learning what the bike can do. In turn, it teaches me more about myself and my limits. I try not to push either too far.
I can't say much more here that I haven't mentioned in the video so just sit back and enjoy the ride.
If there's anything else you like to know that I failed to mention, simply leave a comment and I'll be sure to address it.
Stay safe, stay upright.
Ride well Everyone!

I'm 40 and just got my first motorcycle. In spite of strong opposition from every person in my life except 1 coworker who was very supportive. One of the best decisions I ever made. Been riding road bikes. E bikes. Mountain bikes all my life. Took the motorcycle course. Helped build my confidence slowly. And then got the sv650. Have been riding almost daily. Love it! Keep riding.

Good for you! Take it a step further and hit the parking lot every chance you get and practice your low-speed maneuvers. Your skills will become even greater. Plus, any additional courses and later advanced courses will keep your skill set sharp. Enjoy!

I'm 53 now, my last bike was a shadow 750 22 yrs ago,though I ride my dirtbike often, I hadnt riden a street bike since..I've been salivating over this bike and also the Suzuki GSX 1000 GT..both bikes are ultra sweet...part of me is apprehensive, simply because of the danger factor. Many of my friends have killed or maimed themselves on bikes. The other side of me says, (go get your bike, but keep your head on a swivel, and certainly don't be stupid, like getting drunk before you ride, like other people I know has done, regrettably). I'm on the fence. But it's like an itch I must scratch

58 yr old rider been riding long time I had a 2008 fjr1300 I had it since then and finally traded it in on the kawasaki ninja 1000sx the fjr was just getting too heavy for me since I have developed back problems so I been trying to find something similar in power but lighter and finally settled on this ninja I pick it up in 3 weeks so I am so excited to get this bike I also have a Honda Gold Wing tour DCT and completely love that bike crawl mode and reverse helps me immensely but I was still wanting something lighter and sportier to ride around town in out into country side and mountain twisties I use the GW for touring long distance

Nice updated review of NK1. Glad you're still enjoying your new steed. It really does tick all the boxes, especially for us riders who are getting a little long in the tooth😂. My last bike was a 18' Triumph Striple RS. The bike was an absolute riot to ride. Twistys, trackdays and even some light touring. I decided I need something that was more touring oriented but still kinda sporty after completing a 1800 mile trip on the Triumph. Back/neck and knees were protesting quite a bit when I got home. I picked up a used 20' SX with 6k miles on the clock in Mar of 22'. The previous owner had installed a Puig screen, angled valve stems, Kawi comfort seat, factory heated grips and factory panniers. The only mods that I have done is a ECU flash, courtesy of Moore Mafia, decat pipe and a Leovince end can( factory headers still in place) and added the Givi mount/Top Box. The exhaust is surprisingly quiet and the flash really makes the bike even more enjoyable to ride. I just clicked over 23k miles, and like you, this will be my last road bike. You're gonna grow old but ya don't have to grow up! Ride safe!

61 year old rider here, got mine in october 2021, have done 28 000 km. Very happy with it. Does city traffic (the fold-away mirrors are very useful), can cruise in 6th at 2500 revs, is reasonably comfortable on the highway (wish it had a taller 6th gear, though, have the Touring windscreen and the comfort seat fitted) and is so planted and yet enjoyable in the twisties. Have toured on it (4500 km trips to the Alps and Sardinia), a great all-rounder if you still want a bike with sporty performance. If my body resists, I'll stick with it unless a model update turns up in the coming two years. Thank you for your videos

Nice video, thank you! I’m 58 and just bought a beautiful 2019 N1K. At first I thought I made a mistake: Heavy, runs HOT, and wicked powerful. Like you, I got back into riding after a long break (riding a Honda VF500). Overall, I’m glad I bough this bike, it keeps me honest and I have total respect for the raw power. Also, this bike keeps me going to the gym to stay in relatively decent shape to be able to handle this lovely beast!

I too recently began riding again after a couple decades of selling my last bike (Ninja 600). All my kids had flown the nest and started their own families, so I decided to get back to my love of riding. After a lot of research, in May of this year, I settled on the 2023 Ninja 1000SX. I cannot say enough about the quality of the bike and ride. When I’m not working remotely, I use this as an every day ride to work (weather permitting) as well as a weekend diversion. I’m planning my first cross country ride next month, and am eagerly anticipating stretching its legs. Keep the great videos rolling!!

You Kawasaki 1000 SX videos were helpful as part of my analysis in buying this bike. It is very cool and rides exactly as you describe. The mods I recommend are the radiator guard, power outlet, front sliders and frame sliders, handle bar risers (Murph's Kits), Nelson Rig tail bag, tank pads/grips, a radar detector (Radenso DS-1 using magnetic Ram mount), and Quad Lock for iphone with vibration dampener. It was so much more enjoyable after the handle bar risers were added but I'm 5'-9" so these were very important.

Good on ya! It's not often I can say this, but you've got me by few years. The Ninja SX was on my short list along with the GSX1000GT and Tracer9GT. I ended up going with the Tracer because of the slightly more upright position, and that Yamaha triple. I've already owned plenty of inline 4s as well as twins (all adventure bikes), so the change is welcome for a number of reasons. The Tracer has made me a lazy shifter because there is power everywhere. If you want that top-end rush, there is still plenty of that as well. I'm sure you've already experienced that on the MT09. I like the factory sound enough to not want an aftermarket pipe, for a change. In the end, you really can't go wrong with any of those three bikes. I won't own brands outside of that because of parts/service availability (I'm in Japan). Ride on!

But the bmw is lacking in comfort. Keep the video's coming. You help me alot.
@OldGuyRidin
@OldGuyRidin 10 месяцев назад
Glad I can help. True, the Ninja 1000sx doesn't have the same horsepower of the BMW bur it's not far behind at 142 hp. More than enough for most street riders. Even if you do a track day here or there. Ultimately, the choice is yours. If you have the opportunity, I would suggest test-riding the bikes that interest you and decide from there. As for myself, the Ninja 1000sx gives me everything I need. I did, however, recently change out the seats to the gel. For those longer rides they're a bit more comfortable. At least for me. Ride well and let me know on what you decide.

Upgrades i done is to swap to 55 profile to get a more normal turn in. 50 profile was to slow on smaller roads. 55 profile and 39 teeth sprocket "JTR1489.39" will reduce rpm and better suit me for highway touring without electronics spazzing out on me. Navigating old narrow cities of Europe works but it feels a bit frustrating because your only using 5% of what the bike can offer.... I found that roads just on the edge of the alps in Bavaria and open roads in Austria works the best (sweeping s curves).

Got one! 62. 6’2”. 260lbs. 55 years of riding. I have this Ninja, a BMW/GS and a Moto Guzzi Cali. The BMW/GS might be nimbler, and it’s certainly a bit roomier and it carries a LOT of gear better. The Cali could be more comfy on smoother pavement. But the Ninja is what rolls with me when I want to go play or cover some miles. The rider triangle and wind management is great for me. I rode the Suzuki, but didn’t care for the brakes, the wind management, or the lack of aftermarket. My only complaint is the only flash Kawi green on the machine is a zip tie that I put on it.

Great question. I have a total knee replacement (right knee) and a fusion with instrumentation (L5-S1) lower back. That being said, I can stay on this bike for hours with no discomfort. My knee does get a bit stiff in the colder weather (36 degrees and below). But an occasional taking my foot off the pedal and giving it a brief stretch takes care of that. Hope this sufficiently answers your question. Ride well.

I must say our stories have many similarities. I love to tour, but live in the city, so I keep a Street Triple in the stable. I'm now retired, so I am planning on some long distance touring. I wanted a "SPORT- Touring" and not a hi-heeled naked that looks like it was Jeep inspired, with a seat height that makes no sense for street riding. After a little research it seemed the choice was between the Suzuki GSX S1000GT and the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, both have their pluses and minuses. At my age I learned to let things find me, rather and busting my hump shopping. Low and behold a 2020 Ninja with low miles and in showroom condition rolled up. I've never owed a Japanese motorcycle (I'm a Euro snob) or an inline 4. Wow after only a few hundred miles of riding this bike, I can only say, It's a keeper. I'm taking it to the Dragon in late September and planning a 4 week cross country road trip next Spring. It really is a fantastic bike, it may not be my last bike, but I'm going to keep it and keep riding it.

I wish Kawasaki did a "SE" version or suspension upgrade. Been doing two tours around Europe and front end is a bit sensitive to get it right. 3 turns. And settings only bite after 1.5 turn. So fine-tuning front and rear we talking fiddling with 0,5 turn on the screwdriver to get it perfect. And when you cross over boarder to another country, different asphalt u need to dial it in again. Testridden H2OSX"SE". That was a magic carpet ride. Same with New Hayabusa without electronic suspension.

I wanted something that would give me a more comfortable ride, take me across the nation (USA), and still give me the ability to play as far as speed and agility. Low-speed maneuvers are a bit more challenging, at least for me, but very manageable. And with practice, they get easier. The choice is yours my friend. Whatever you decide, ride well.

How is body position? Do you feel more upright or hunched over like tucked in. How many hours can you ride before your back hurts? Thanks for the video

The ergonomics are great. It's a sport/touring bike so you can spend many hours riding and no discomfort. The handlebars, though clip-ons, are raised so there's no constant lean forward and pressure on the wrists and back.

Own 2018 model (awesome machine) and just ordered 2024 model as a replacement. There is no update since 2021 I assume. Same spec, just colors differ. Is USB output goes as stock feature on standard (basic) version? Good vid.

Thanks. USB ports (one under the pinion and one up front on the left) are USB ready to connect, but no USB port installed. You'd think it would be standard, but you can either buy the Kawasaki ports or get aftermarket ports. Or, possibly, have one or both included in your deal. I got the one up front. I had no need for a USB port under my pinion seat. I did, however, install the SAE connections to the battery in case I need to use my pump. Congrats on the ordering of your 2024. Ride well and Enjoy.

Hey did you buy the aftermarket windscreen because you wanted a smoked one or because you didn’t have enough wind protection with the original windscreen?
@OldGuyRidin
@OldGuyRidin 4 месяца назад
I had a 2021 MT-09 before the Ninja 1000sx, so wind wasn't an issue. I like dark smoke. Now, if I were intending on touring, I'd look into a better windscreen as far as blocking the wind.

Question. At 2m20 ish you say the cruise control is _awesome._ Why? Context: I'm a 49 year old 2017 Z1000SX rider (GB). I've been on bikes since I was 17, never owned a car....and with todays traffic jams I have no regrets on that decision. My first bike was a Kwack AR80. Then a '94 ZXR400. A '98 ZX-6R. '04 ZX-10R (still got) and in '17 I added the 1000SX (with other, lesser brands inserted along the way in the form of R6s, GSX-Rs, an RVF and an RGV). However, I must be the only Kawasaki loyalist in the country who doesn't like Kawasaki green. The AR was red and white, the ZXR black, pink and purple, the 6R silver and red, the 10R in blue and the 1000SX in bright orange (Best. Colour. Ever. Seriously, get a bright orange bike, no-one's pulled out in front of me since since 2017). I've been very tempted to update to new for the cruise control but I've not liked any of the colour schemes available, especially the fake painted grill on the '23......however, the 2024 1000SX in red and grey looks pretty good. Although I may have to get the red bits resprayed to bright orange. I've very tempted but.....do I really need cruise control? I dunno, tell me why it's awesome. Oh P.S. I only opted for the panniers on a whim, figured they might come in useful one day.....first time I put them on the bike and realised helmet and jacket fit inside and I no longer had to walk about carrying 20lbs of gear everywhere I went ever again.....they haven't been off the bike since. I forget they're there cos they're no wider than the mirrors so if there's a gap big enough to get the front through the panniers will fit as well.

If you travel on the highways where you live for any amount of time, it's very nice to be able to relax your throttle hand. This is where cruise control shines.

I am also 65 and currently own a 2014 VFR. I'm seriously considering making a switch to the 1000SX. My problem is there aren't any dealers in my area that have one. At a minimum, I'd like to just sit on it and see how it feels. Question: Before you bought yours, did you ride one or sit on one or just buy it sight unseen? Thanks very much! Rick

I stopped by a dealership. They had one on the floor so I had an opportunity to sit on it. Put a down payment on it right then and there. No regrets.

Returning rider after 20 years. Prior bike 450cc. Should I start out with the Ninja 650 or go 1000sx and put it in rain mode? If all trips are under 2 hours, is 1000cc overkill? I see it has more safety electronics than the 650 Ninja however.
@OldGuyRidin
@OldGuyRidin 7 месяцев назад
Best to start with the 650. Being from a 450 and jumping to a 1 litre bike isn't a smart move. You're more than doubling the horsepower you got from the 450. Get the 650. Take some advanced courses. And practice, practice, practice. Fine tune your riding skills and THEN make the move to a more powerful bike. Best of luck.

I’m thinking of getting this my first one, I do a lot of highway riding and don’t have the money to buy multiple and risk growing out of a 600cc or 400cc bike. I’m a responsible person and live in very safe and empty place in the Midwest for the next year, meaning I’ll get about a year of comfortable practice before real city roads and freeways. What’s your advice for someone like me sir?
@OldGuyRidin
@OldGuyRidin Год назад
Well, it's hard to say. You don't really describe anything about you. Only that you're responsible and don't want to buy multiple bikes. Will this be your first bike? If so, I wouldn't suggest so powerful a bike. If you don't have experience, it's never wise to jump right in on a big, powerful bike. Start small and work your way up. Look at the MT-07 first. Get the feel for a bike with pep but not too much so. And, by all means, practice, practice, and practice some more. Find yourself a good-sized parking lot and go there every chance you get. Buying multiple bikes in progression with your abilities is always better than buying right into the powerful bikes. Your life could depend on it.

@@OldGuyRidin yes sir, forgot to mention I am a new rider. Thank you for the advice. I will do a lot to practice as much as possible, it’s the advice I’m getting from everyone. On a separate note. Is there a way to have the rear bag as well as the side bags on this bike? Asking for my wife and she’ll get some back support that way on the passenger seat.

I'm 6' even. But, more importantly, my inseam is 33". If you're concerned about the angle at which your knees will be bent for a period of time, inseam would be more important than height. I have no issues riding for long periods (3 - 4 hours) with my knees. I have a total knee replacement of my right knee and arthritis in my left. I'm 71 and have no real issues. My right knee will get stiff in cold weather, but I keep the balls of my feet on the pegs rather than the arch. If you can get a demo ride in, I'd certainly recommend it. That way you'll get a good idea of the ergonomics and if they suit you. Ride well.

have you felt the need for a steering damper, i seemed to observe that if there's a wobble it tends to get worse unless you put some effort into correcting that yourself, whereas other bikes tend to correct the problem themselves, i do not know if it's because of the fork angle or something else, but i have felt this issue a couple of times, could you provide your input on this, have you sensed anything similar yourself? one more thing so you do not misunderstand, it does not wobble at any speed, but in case there is a wobble, for whatever reason, that is the behaviour which i have observed....rather annoying, but it is what it is i guess, so i either learn to live with it or i will eventually find some steering damper and see if that helps with the situation
@OldGuyRidin
@OldGuyRidin 9 месяцев назад
I haven't experienced any type of wheel wobble. There are a lot of reasons for this. Wheel could be out of balance, improper tire pressure, steering bearings worn, etc... You should take it to a technician, explain your issue and have him/her give your bike tge once over to see what issue(s) you may have. Best of luck. Hopefully, it'll be something minor. Ride well and stay safe.

I'm 6'3" with 34" inseam also and after planning for years to buy a Ninja 1000, I found a nice deal on a low mileage Versys 1000 (see profile pic.) It has the same 1043cc inline 4 but has a slightly taller suspension. I am comfortable for long rides on this bike and the riding position is perfect! It is very capable for touring and the hard luggage comes off in seconds for a sporty ride in the twisties. If you are tall, it's a great choice!

I needed a more comfortable ride. I'm 70 now with a total knee replacement and a fusion with instrumentation L5-S1 in my lower back. As you get older, your muscles atrophy, and you lose muscle mass. Needed a suspension with more comfort.

I have never ridden a MT09, but I did try the Z900, which I really liked the looks, etc but found that it rode to stiffly and foot peg position was too high and reset. Got cramps in my inner thighs from just a test ride! The MT09 has gotten expensive now, so looking at the new Hornet, new KTM790 or used std KTM890, or the new GS800. Ride on man!
