Definitely do a tow test. I think this is one of the biggest selling points of this car if you want to be able to tow, but don't want a full blown 4wd. There really isn't another car in the segment that compares on paper. Interesting to see how it goes in the real world.
I like the Klugers and they will do 2000 kg with a 2 tonne towball. So not bad but still no where near the pathfinder on paper. The Sante Fe is a good option but noticeably smaller in size, and need to still upgrade the suspension. I think the only other soft roader that can tow is the Volkswagen Toureg, but you'd have to be willing to drive a VW and its more expensive. Will be interesting when the new engine is available on the Subaru Outback which will do 2400 kg with 240 download. But this doesn't offer 7 seats, if that's needed. A soft roader towing test would be good to see!!
@@JTisGOD checked the Palisade. In 4wd trim (with diesel) it drives like a tractor and sounds like a tractor too. Pathfinder is heaps better. The only real competitor is a petrol 4wd Kluger, but it looks weird (to my taste) both inside and outside.
Just picked up my new Ti-L. Have come from a previous gen Jeep Grand Cherokee (overland spec diesel). Key features for me were towing capacity and ability to fit my efoil board in the back with having to disassemble it. The way the seats almost fold flat meant it was more suitable than the Patrol i was looking at. The V6 engine is just sweet and smooth with more that enough power especially when mated to the ZF 9 speed which is well calibrated. Its just such a well balanced and comfortable car to drive with heaps of space and features. Compared to the other soft roaders this would be the most 4wd/capable/mucho of the lot. For me and my needs it ticked all the boxes (albeit more expensive that the rest) but it saved me 20k compared to a patrol and 50k less than a land cruiser.
Would be nice to see a towing test with these big beasts. Would be nice to see some entry level comparisons as well cause not everyone can always afford the big and fancy cars.
Doing the trailer review for these SUVs also would be amazing. I know most owners won't tow anything behind this oversized family car but it would be nice to see the full capabilities over here
Incandescent blinkers are frikkin awesome!! As a truck driver who spends his life on the road I can tell you straight up that LED blinkers are one of the most dangerous things to have ever been invented.. they are virtually invisible at anything other than the perfect angle. Incandescent blinkers light up the whole orange lens and are visible from all angles. The sooner they outlaw LED blinkers the better.
Would have been nice if they put the V6 Twin turbo engine they had in the Infiniti Q50 (224kw version), gives it bit more torque, better engine performance and better fuel economy. Plus a hybrid e-Power version would have been great as well
@@BoskiM I mean it's just a dynosaur motor that has to be revved to the moon and gets bad fuel economy. A turbo motor or diesel option would be far better option.
It’s awful engine, I test drove it, slow off the mark, needs lots of throttle to get the power out if it (around 5000 RPM), drinks like my 2010 CX-9 (and higher consumption then outgoing model)
@@alexrobinson2100 Have you test drove this version or the previous gen? Big difference with this gen is that it comes with proper torque converter. That CVT from previous gen was awful.
@@johngil6285 i like the nissan engine. We upgraded to a palisade and the v6 is brutal. Like theres nothing then bang hold on. And diesel engines are shit. Should options the gtr engine in this.
Do love the look of this car. The towing capacity is in the slot for what I would require. A diesel would make this a no brainer of a decision. Glad to see the CVT being ditched. The review on this point was weak, of course the CVT was terribly unreliable. You go and ask any auto transmission repair shop how many Nissan CVTs they are seeing and the answer will be ‘heaps’. On a petrol engine review you would think the fuel grade would be a natural point of interest. Is it ULP (91), PULP (95,98)?
I think you will find that 202kw 240nm is standard 91 Ron. 210kw 250nm is 95 Ron.. 220kw 260nm is 98 Ron. 98 Ron shaves one second of the standing 0-400m times.
Nissan pathfinder got 9 speed automatic transmission is great improvement from the last generation. This car got very reliable Vq6 engine so now this car better than cheaply built Toyota Kluger in every Conner.
the patrol facelift was the tester about the new look, the suv range gets the new look and interior. patrol will then get the facelift and interior to match.
The 3rd row seats on the 23 Pathfinder is pretty small compared to the 23 Pilot. I sat in the Pilot and was very comfortable even in the 3rd row as a 5ft 10.
Finally nissan make a beautiful looking car...damn its been so long....previous gen pathfinder,xtrail...im not a big fan of,but older gen pathfinder and xtrail..its good
@@SuperSymbol yeah thats the downside of it...cannot understand why nissan hold that tech for their new pathfinder....the tech is there, they just need to put it,but they dont 😅😅 i guess japanese manufacturer..they loveeeeee holding back technology 😂
Hi Paul. Nice review. Just a couple of observations: apart for where I rest my arm/hand while driving how soft the top of the dash or door cards is (i got myself out of the habit of elbow on window sill due to back spasms) is not that relevant. The Pathfinder looks nice, but is 307 mm longer than my Kodiaq and has far less storage capacity. Do Skoda and Nissan measure their volumes the same way? Please include a Skoda Kodiaq RS fully optioned in your comparison as by price they will be close and on paper the Kodiaq is bigger inside. Thanks, Lloyd
Yeah the VQ V6s have good mid range but absolutely nothing down low and despite what people say, they sound meaty and good. Such a huge improvement over the previous model.
We're currently trading our 2017 Pathfinder ST-L. Jumped into a new Everest Platinum for test drive (wife loved it's looks) - the interior, aside from the fancy electronic dash, it felt like a step backwards, hard scratch-magnet plastics everywhere, seats not good, and less room in comparison to the r52. The V6 diesel sounded like a tractor and while it had a reasonable amount of go, it felt like you had to send it mail via Auspost before it responded to your throttle request. At highway speeds the older Nissan felt way more responsive. The Everest is very much a body on frame 4wd, with actual off road capability - it should only be on the list if you're taking it off road or need added tow capacity. The Palisade was a much better place to sit and quieter engine to the Everest, I suspect it's similar feel to the new Pathfinder (which we'll look at soon). The Kluger is also a nice place to sit, albeit a little smaller (the rear seats space is tiny) than the Pathfinder and Palisade. The i4T engine sounds harsh and rattly compared to the V6. It was actually my pick, but the wife hates the looks and that it's tech is standard Toyota (as in 5+ years behind).
Knowing their current form, Honda would charge 102k with $1500* services every six months * prices dependent on factor’s like cost of labour, materials, recycling of fluids.
There were discussions that Honda Australia was trying to convince Honda USA to create a Right-Hand Drive version of the latest model year Pilot. We'll see how that goes............but they would need to sell beyond Australia market for the Alabama USA factory to justify RHD production costs and development.
It would be nice to see Nissan take the 4×4 badge on the tailgate more seriously with a transfer case low/ high range and more ground clearance. With 180mm current ground clearance does not make for four wheel driving!
I wonder if the engine used here is similar to the one they used in cars such as the Nissan Maxima. Such a creamy engine, also made it to the Wards Top 10 Best Engines list over a number of years.
It’s the same VQ engine as last gen. Nissan has been using VQ for many years. It has the same platform and architecture as the last gen with a new exterior body panels, new interior and the Jatco CVT was replaced with a ZF 9 speed automatic.
The cargo space stats each seem wrong. Are Nissan measuring in a way that goes against the usual? It's a big car. I would've thought it was approx 300/750/2000, for each stat?
I'm from Indonesia and I'm still baffled by Japanese automakers' decision not to include their SUV lineup in my country. Well, Hyundai did with their Palisade and it made quite a significant market here in the luxury SUV segment. Still waiting for the Toyota Highlander and the Nissan Pathfinder. Instead we got the Toyota Fortuner and the Nissan Terra to fill that gap.
Very nice review Paul. Do we know if Nissan is looking to go Hybrid/electric with Pathfinder in the future? If so it will outperform current generation Toyota Kluger in every way.
Hi Paul. Can you please do one of these in-depth reviews on the LDV D90. This appears to be the only vehicle in this segment you have never done a review on. Any reason why?
i noticed that a lot of those new vechicles thats coming to australia all seem to have 1 leather colour option which is black, a lot of people dont seem to mind it, but would anyone know why thats case, the overseas model seems to have numerous leather colour options
I always hated the previous gen. It took the always muscular Pathfinder and turned it into a bloated minivan. Im glad they've returned to that boxy design you expect from a Pathfinder. Looks a million times better.
Their decision to get rid of the cvt and use automatic gearbox is the best decision...lot of people turn off when they know the car they want to buy use cvt...
Thank for the review. A comparison against the Hyundai Palisade Highlander would be great. Given both top specs of both brands are very similar in nature! Particularly given both offer captains chairs in the mid row. Interestingly no full spare wheel for the Pathfinder, only a space saver...? Anyone know if the third row receives air bags in the Pathfinder? Cheers
Hopefully picking my new R53 STL up before Xmas, Looking forward to towing my 2000kg ATM twin axle European caravan. Being an old rally car driver, you have to look at the gearing, not only the engine. With the VQ35DD and a 9 speed Automatic and a lowish first gear and a low final drive/Diff. Perfect for towing and when not towing a tall overdrive 8th and 9th gear. Not many other SUV's have this lowish gearing!
After 12 months 16000ks of ownership this car has been faultless, I love it. It tows my 2000kg ATM caravan perfectly, very stable. Although I know my weights. About 14L/100ks towing at 90 kph. Not much more than my old 2011 Volvo XC90 Diesel. Also running 98 octane does 0-100kph in low 7's sec. Very happy.
What would be a decent, comparable rival in this price point? The CX-9 was really good but is getting deprecated this year, Palisade is loaded with fancy features but drives like a turd, especially the top of the range 2.2D model. I'm genuinely searching for a decent 7 seater under 100K
Either this or the Murano, whichever one has a 2024 with hybrid. They are due out this Fall, but there is no info yet and it's nearly February! Latest news updates were last November.
Actually got a '23 Patfinder SL 6 months ago and love it! Comfy, quiet, and spacious. Perfect for taking 4 people and their golf bags to far away courses. Also, got 28 mpg on a 4 hour road trip. Heard the upcoming hybrids will be 4 cylinder CVTs - no thanks. Scotty Kilmer said Nissan's 3.5 liter V - 6 is bullet proof, and is one of the best engines ever made. That's comforting insight from a guy who knows vehicles.
I think there is an error with the cargo capacity. Even with most 5 seater SUVs, when you fold all the seats, there'll be at least 1000l of boot space. To have 800 here sounds something is not right.
I would say at least 1800L, that's a very large vehicle, I think that's where the ñistake came from. My damn Mondeo has 1500 L when folding the seats down.
No turbo diesel, no small turbo petrol and no hybrid. Using the same engine as a 2004 Elgrand, it looks great but anything but the base model is a tough sell.
I like the styling except for the weird headlights and... why is 'Pathfinder' written upside-down on the center console? 👀 PS - it's really funny how Nissan is still sticking to their ancient keyfob design. It's not hard to make a new one and it's the one thing that's handed to you the moment you receive your vehicle at the dealership. It's a big part of the 'wow factor', something you proudly put in your pocket and put on the dining table. It has to look great.
The likely reason why there aren’t matrix headlights could be that this model was primarily made for the American market. Matrix headlights were illegal and not approved for use in the US until the beginning of this year. If Nissan wants to bother, they can develop new lights but I think they will hold off until they do a mid-cycle refresh.
I've been looking for a replacement for the Toyota Kluger and realistically this is it...... There are many diesels etc but in Australia we get really crappy cars, they are SO SLOW. The fact it's acceptable for ANY car to take 10+ seconds to get to 100km/h should be illegal, it's a safety issue! You need to be able to move quickly as it may save your life so all our diesels essentially suck here. The pathfinder ticks all the boxes, little expensive, a little down on power....... would have been nicer above 220kw and closer to 400nm of torque but again the limitions of the v6 size. Might have been better with a 3.8 litre v6 with four cyclinder mode I think thats what most 7 seaters need...... having that slightly extra larger capacity to hand out the torque and power needed to bring the 2 tonne 7 seaters into that proper 7-8 second 0-100 range.... Ride could probably be fixed with the smaller wheels as you said.... the Toyota Klugers a bit too bouncy.... go over a speed bump at McDonalds on a slight angle and it's like your on a boat. Now I'll have to wait a few years for these to drop by half and be on the used market :D..... Mid 30's is really all anyone should pay for a car, maybe a tad more for the larger 4wd's built tougher.
Yeah what a soft 'review'. Basically just giving the marketing material a bit of personalisation. Without proper comparisons with competitors it is pointless.
I saw one today for the first time on the road...side profile and then rear...thought it looked very upmarket...so much so...I thought it looked a little bit Range Rover 2023.
