seriously, i wish there was a casterless version. it's not hating on the dude personally, but man i wish jarod wasnt on damn near every motorsport stream out there. muting the vid only makes it sound like a tesla swap competition.
This is the kind of thing that made the events more fun in the first season. Gotta do more of this, pay more attention to the lower classes to recover at least some of the hype from the early days.
I think he was talking about racing in Sweden/Finland he drives a 200hp Saab. You build a car, and in the rules it says a competitor can purchase the car for $800 so people don’t spend crazy amounts to win.
Some of the guys you see in this race, Donny Donovan, Josh Felix and Ryan Rodriguez are members of our race team. Blake Wilkey was referred to his engine guy Tim Sletten, who is an often part of our race team, by my son Warren and raced with our team for some time when he started with the Class 11 race Bug. Check the front of the light blue 1107 car of Donny Donovan, it has big lettering on the front hood that says "ORAF". That's a fab and prep shop in Apple Valley California run by our team mate Rulo Solano, the terror of Class 5/1600 Baja Bugs. Donny owns a small chain of board shops. Skate boards, snow boards and all sorts of related stuff. His crew brings a bunch of really cool vintage air cooled VWs to the races. Buses, Bugs, a double cab pickup, Westphalia campers, etc. The commentators are amazed at the suspension on these cars. They have beefier torsion springs than stock and use offroad race shocks, But for decades they raced on stock torsions and shocks that had to mount on the stock shock mounts, which still applies to the front shocks. They do not have limited slip differentials or traction control or AWD. No turbos or other supercharging. The tires are required to fit under the stock fenders. They have to have 2 seats and both occupied. Some racers in the class use early style swingaxle rear suspension, some use IRS with 4 CVs on the axles. All use stock Bug gearboxes with limited modifications.
James May covered this format ages ago for Top Gear. Lemons racing started out that way but quickly dropped the requirement. They even had a rule where people could vote to crush a car half-way through the race if they thought it was too cheaty.
Hello all, good morning. This looks so cool and fun; however, I would like to know, could this be a RC rally race also? I think the Tamiya VW Beetle would be a great contender!! Two classes one 2wd (M-06 chassis) 4wd (MF-01X chassis) Let's just stay brushed for right now, closer competition! I love both full size and scale racing. Just a thought I had while I was having my morning coffee. Peace!!!
That’s a great division that should really really start taking off. Could you imagine 30 of those little bugs going at it on a track? Oh that’s a recipe for fun! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Taking off???? Class 11 is a SCORE racing class that's been around since the mid 1970s. Like 76 or 77. They race the Baja 1000, the Mint 400 and many other desert offroad races. Their very 1st event was on a longer course than this at Riverside Raceway. That was won by Mickey Thompson. The rules for the class have been upgraded some since then, but they are still essentially stock Bugs with very limited modifications allowed. They also raced at Glen Helen ( same guys with a longer course for the day races, but a similar short course track for the Friday Night and Saturday night races.
Those drones film badly. Want to run the race? This lessens the feeling of speed and emotion. No need to run the circuit together. Bad images even make you dizzy 😵
Owned a 62, taking my wife to see an old roomate, she hollered out "TURN HERE!" We were going about 30 mph. So I cranked the wheel but when I went to counter steer, my shirt sleeve got cought on the turn signal. We squealed around the courner and she exclaimed, "WE WERE ON TWO WHEELS"! I calmly stated, nooooooo. When we got there I went around to let her out and there was a big gas trail all across the door. "Haaaa, guess we were on two wheels. Funnest car I ever owned. Could change the timing with a spark plug wrench and screwdriver.
I'd be a fun loving jet boat racer too, if I were RICH 😒 The only reason I clicked this is cause it DIDNT look like a bunch of richboi's running around, but, it still is...
