@@maggyh199 I love it! For my use, it’s perfect because it’s quick enough when I need it to be. The ride is smooth, it hugs turns tightly, seats are comfortable, trunk is a great size! The only two things I hate are the cup holders and Apple CarPlay. Drinks get in the way of the gear shifter and CarPlay isn’t full screen, but the car itself is great so I’ve learned to deal with it. The back seats are a bit tight, but we don’t have kids and we only use them for the dogs.
@@_bestcatdad The small Apple CarPlay will be hard for me too, I’m used to having it on full screen. Also the poor quality reversing camera. What colour/interior did you take please?
As an empty-nester I trader my Subaru Outback, which I loved, for a base Macan with a bunch of options. Love it. Drives beautifully and has enough zip to be really enjoyable. Maybe it a midlife crisis but this is the perfect car for me.
I love my Macan. It’s a great all rounder and you alway feel special driving it. Apple CarPlay only takes up the drivers 2/3 of the screen. Lot of journalists complain, but day to day it works perfectly. The 1/3 on the passenger side can be configured with a group of other functions, or you can have Porsche Nav (while listening to Spotify) or have the radio while using Waze without jumping between screens… the infotainment can be configured and once you have your settings done, it is easy to get used too!
2:26 the rock costs 1500 bucks extra. it's a faithful replica of the stone that ferdinand porsche had in his shoe when he met his wife for the first time, a must for every porsche fan
not sure why anyone would compare those brands porshe is 50% luxury 50% fun and is the only reliable europian car bmw is 80% fun 20% luxury and so unreliable tesla is 70% raw power 30% technology vw is 50% boredom 50% ugliness porshe can be compared with lexus imo and yes, I am a porshe owner (macan and panamera) and lexus owner (lc500)
I took delivery of my Macan T about 3 months ago. I absolutely love it so far. Glad I didn't go with the S. You get more use of the handling goodies it comes with over the few extra horsepower.
@@user-fn2zq6yd4t No, I got this because I can’t afford a 911 😂. Trust me, don’t waste your money on an S. Macans are not fast no matter what trim you get. Way better value on the T. Better interior, handling and looks. Use the extra couple of grand and get some nice upgrades. The T or the GTS are the models to get. Check out the review the smoking tire did on the T.
First timer here and this was a great review. My current lease on 2020 Q3 is up in July and have been eyeing this model, and think I’ll pull the trigger. Fantastic color too!
6:50 try pressing the icon on the bottom right of the display next to the volume icon. I belive that should change the size of the app. The secondary section is normally used for an addition app you would be running, like music + navigation. Music on the left, Maps on the larger right section.
@@THEAC83 there’s still piano black, just less of it because the X1 has far fewer touch sensitive controls. Macan has a lot of buttons down there hence more glass realestate. Paul’s issue is piano black trims for the sake of it, not glass panels
Paul: So, what have we got to test drive today? Admin staff: There's a nice new mid-spec Toyota Yaris. Paul: Sorry, what's that? Admin: Toyota Yaris. Paul: Huh? Admin: TOYOTA YARIS. Paul: What? Admin: *sighs* Porsche Macan. Paul: Oh, ok then. If I must.
that bsm position is best i think. because it is in your line of sight even without having to look at the mirrors. other cars have them on the outer edge
The hidden 12V outlet is a powered one for using the Porsche battery tender that you can buy for $350 bucks or so...which is a rebranded CTEK that you can get for nearly half that. Basically all Porsches have one stowed away somewhere that isn't visible normally.
I think you need to include an actual city drive, in traffic in the reviews. No one would buy a car because it's good on a proving ground at 180kph. In reality, this will be a commuter to drive to work in the same as most other cars
Same car, same height. No problems backseat. Depends on how you sit in front. If you need longer and bigger (heavier/less sporty), you got the Cayenne, but thats a way different car.
I think it looks dated, but good. But that's the same as what I'd say for the 911 as well. One other suggestion Paul, one thing I find frustrating (especially for country drives) are cars that don't have a spare or have that horrible tyre good. Maybe a rating system for cars you review along the lines of: A+ - full sized spare with an alloy wheel A - full sized spare with a steel wheel B - spare tyre, not full sized (eg. 15" instead of a 17" on all four wheels) C - Space Saver Spare D - Run flat tyres F - No spare tyre / tyre goo
Thanks for another great review Paul. It's a great car but at ~$122k as tested, it's hardly cheap... Could you share with us the name of the app you use for the 0-100 and braking tests?
The Macan T is actually a Bargain, the discounted options means you can build a very compelling car with air ride and some tasty options for $120k. $5k down and a 12mth wait. Really a value standout in a see of GLC and X4 and Q5 dullness. Also don't forget you can own this car under Porsche warranty for 15 consecutive years! Winner!
$120k for a near 10 yr design aint great value. Great car though. Its 4$k for each 4 yr warranty extension but you need to take into account the crap 3 yr warramty offered and the fact it needs to be serviced at Porsche at highly inflated prices. Great car though
Glad you're doing 0-100 tests in normal modes as that's what most people would be using in real life and not launch control. Is it the same dsg as the golf?
The DSG 6 speed in the Golf is a HUGE box. You'd never break the internals, even with the engine tuned to 450nm (proven in many Nurburgring 24 hour races). Clutches are not considered internals, so they would be upgraded over the standard ones, very easy to do. The box in the Porsche is 7 speed and bigger again, and in north/south orientation.
Still no heads-up display? Also a battery for the Macan is $10k. Ring Porsche service before you buy and simply ask how much a new battery is. It’s $10k in australia. My mate had a car just out of warranty and paid $10k
I still have the original Macan Turbo, which I optioned up like a mofo at the time. I’ve been put putting around in it for 8 years now…. Time to unleash the beast that it is!
You're fcuking kidding me 100K for an SUV that comes with an additional 30K of safety options that are all standard on 60K SUVs. Porche are clearly used to stroking themselves over their product pricing?
We are about to order the Macan S plus 12k extras, not big fan for the EV anyway. The things we like is Macan S is using same engine from previous GTS, twin turbo V6, with 380 hp, the Sport Chrono Package will give Macan S the launch control as well.
Great review Paul! Have been waiting for this. No Android auto. You need coding to make car play full screen and enable android auto in the pcm. ~aud500
AS much as I love the Macan, when BMW are doing the x3 for low 90K, its a no brainer to buy the BMW. Especially if your buying private. $20 - 30k saving aint nothing to sneeze at
Too bad the new version of the Macan will suck. EV charging infrastreucture is NOWHERE near ready here in australia. Basically will be stranded to city driving, at least here in North Queensland.
Those DSG aren't fantastic to live with - at least in a tigwan. Try coles carpark, edging out from parking bays on inclinations, doing 3 point turns etc. They bunnyhop, engage/disengage in certain situations too. Not as refined as a torque converter and false claims on fuel benifits
I’m definitely not an SUV person either, however there isn’t a great deal of options as far as wagons go these days 😢 Faux key…the CJ lancer and Outlander had that back in 08!
So if you're an Android phone person, bad luck, Porsche is not going to support you...strange; sold performance numbers though, that DCT and 2l turbo combo seem to work well, finally Paul is happy with a dual clutch connected to a 4cyl
Fancy and desirable af but the VAG obsession of charging more for safety is harsh and does need to be punished by the consumer to force the change. Our stupid ADR’s got rid of a bunch of awesome cars and the excellent CT postie bike but allows this sort of safety exclusion. Ps the seatbelt colour is meant to give the impression of dual buckets in the rear.
Usually your reviews are bang on. I think you need to do a little more research if you’re putting out high quality reviews. Like the option to choose custom colours is called “PTS, Porsche to sample”. Just little things like this make you look more professional and more informative to the viewers
Great review! No android auto no sale. Especially nowadays when Chinese rubbish even has it. The most sold phone type on earth and they delete it yet it's a VW and other VW's have it 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Why do you 'have' to have an SUV if you have a kid? From your review of the rear seat and luggage space you can see it is inferior to that of a Volkswagen Golf. So what’s so great about am SUV??
No, you get an engine and gearbox and a fantastically sorted chassis and brakes. You should buy a Kia Sorento instead, only $90,000 for that. I know which I'd rather have......
@@samy4288 Tiguan is East-West platform with front drive bias The Porsche is North-South with rear drive bias. Porsche has air suspension. Not really comparing apples with apples. Don't get me wrong, I like the Tiguan, there's an R-Line in the family, but head to head on the track the Porsche will outrun the Tig R.
I am probably going to be shot down but I was looking at a Macan 4cyl or 6 cyl and setting aside the supply issue why would would anyone prefer this over say a BMW 340i? I understand that the Macan is a SUV but for what you pay for a 4 cyl Macan you can get a 6cyl BMW that is lighter, handles better, is faster (if that is important to you) and has everything you need without having to option the car up with $30k of extras.
Ah, the BMW doesn't handle or ride better... Resale also more solid with a Macan. Go drive one then you'll know - and there is no need to spend $30k on options.
@@mheeler I have driven a base Macan. It rides on stilts and is top heavy. It doesn’t ride better and it lack’s features that are standard in the M340i and it has a golf engine. I don’t get why anyone would prefer the Macan over a smooth 6 cyl BMW.
Ther are a lot of omissions especially given its so called upper class status. Seems VW Porsche Audi are just taking rusted on porsche buyers for a ride.
