Man, as a plat 2 I used your "gold" build and I won about 15 of 17 games. Got all the way into d3 mmr (for the first time ever) and now back barely into plat 1. Thank you for these videos. I love them. Started playing for the first time in 8 years because of them.
Just finished watching a lot of your previous B2GM for Protoss. Fascinating to see different builds and how they are so similar, but a few different buildings and altered timings/ new "I'm ready to push" moments. Cool to see different builds and even more cool to think about how I now have like 4 or 5 Protoss builds in my memory with different timings, benefits, or drawbacks. Best SC2 educational content out there.
Thanks for hosting me in game 2, hope you had fun. I always have a pylon outside my base for the zealot jump at 27:15. It is a common strategy I use for when Terran players siege outside my base for hours 😂 thanks for this series!
Hey Pig, here just to show my gratitude for all the videos, I started playing StarCraft not so long ago and this series helped me not only go up in the ladder but to enjoy the game, love from Brazil ❤🇧🇷
Game 5 of this episode is perhaps most interesting in Protoss series so far, I got to really enjoy heavy robo ground army style you are teaching but lost at times when I knew I could fight with air units but I don't really have a grip on them yet. Game 5 this episode gives me transition I need to get unstuck in multiple situations. This series is amazing for all races, but especially for Protoss, something just clicked for me where before I could never use it's strengths now I think it's my fav atm... As usual best educational starcraft content
2:44:05 “7 slow zealots and a sentry at the 8 min mark that sucks. Maybe Patsy was very nervous lol” then 1 min later… 2:44:57 “unless they have a hidden base…*pause*…. Uhhhh Phoenix/DT? It’s Phoenix/DT! Legend! Legend!!!!” Your face, Pig!!! hahaha what fun 😮😂🎉❤✨
Thanks for your amazing new player guides, I just started SC2, and got placed Gold 3 for my first ranked, with 1 lose against a Smurf. Still strugling with camera and camera locations, but i'm getting use to it, thanks for your videos ! and written guides !
Hey Pig, I already watched the Series Last year and got to diamond 1! But still learning things e.g. archons as counter to carriers on hold position😂😂😂😂 big thx come from Germany
Thanks a ton for you continued work with this series, currently utilizing this guide to try and and improve. The hardest part of the guide so far is not making disruptors and not taking the third before plat LOL!
I've always wondered why people were so adamant about having a gateway control group when there is a mechanic that does that for you. Obviously, early game it's necessary to have them on a control group, but what about the mid to late game? We all know that Protoss is the race that uses the most control groups for their army. So if you get into a situation where your main army is taking up multiple hotkeys, then that's where I see the value in the select all warp gates button. I actually have the 0/9/8 control groups mapped to ` /Tab/Q respectively, so the W key is actually already right next to all my other army groups. This makes it easier to quickly go to your prism and have the gateway hotkey right next to the one you just used. If the game is gonna let us have 11 control groups, then we might as well us them when it's viable. :)
You need to have it control grouped before warp gate is done sometimes you need to build 5-10 units out of it before WG is done, not having a control group would be really bad at high level. If you want just hotkey your gateways to w and unbind the post WG hotkey. But playing without a hotkey for your gateways could mean you lose the game in many scenarios...
Yeah, that's why I said that it is obviously necessary in the early game before WG research is done. In the mid - late game scenario though, what would be the advantage of not using the select all WG button? Not trying to say you're wrong. Just genuinely asking.
@@itranscendencei7964 Main thing I would point out is it's easier to see the total number of WGs you have with a control group instead of how many are available to warp in units at a given moment. Also much easier to have early game gateways on the same key as late game warpgates just for simplicity, either binding the control group to W or the way PiG shows here doesn't matter. He also points out it's not the end of the world late game if you are using W instead of control grouping them, just good to get in the habit and be consistent
@@itranscendencei7964 it doesn't really make sense to stop using a hotkey midway in the game. It simpler to use the same hotkey all game and not have to reprogram your brain
I've never needed to use all 10 control groups haha, but it's totally fine to use W, just make sure you use a different control group for gateways pre-warpgate
Hi, thanks for doing this series. On the PVP that went to mass carriers and tempest. Wouldn’t the option that you go expand and build tempests put you in a disadvantage? Seeing you are the one now behind and changing your build from two base timing to a tempest archon macro build? Would the better option be out of the two to go blink stalkers and attack on two bases? Just trying to better understand how going tempests and a macro build is still a viable option, since I would think it would put you behind the opponent. Since they already started from the beginning doing the turtle macro build. Of course I ask this in the context that this is gold league level play, not trying to suggest doing Master and above strategy or gameplay when asking. I could be wrong though. Thanks again for doing this series, it is very helpful and hope to see the next part of the series soon.
They won't know you're doing it for a while, so they're turtling with the impression you could all-in at any moment. So you're building no defence and just going straight 80 probes, upgrades, full tech + spamming production. Meanwhile they're building cannons on 60 probes and playing more scared. So you can jump ahead if they don't realise that you're trying to beat them at their own game. How quickly you realise what they're doing and change plans if the key, the earlier the better. You could try a 2-base blink all-in but I'd say that's going to be an awkward transition off our opening + learning to swap into stargates is a useful skill to have for many situations with this style
Hey PiG, As a newish "goldish" player: These edgecase-scenarios (mass BCs or Carriers) are not that rare. Really not. It happens so often to me that Terran or Protoss turtle up hard and I am unable to break them before they get so many air-army. ...and yes, I think the biggest problem is, that I run into these turret walls and just lose too many units and with that my momentum. It's just hard to find the "correct" response. And the "correct" micro (or even better: fast reaction) for these scenarios. But like I said: I find myself really often in these scnearios. Mainly I play zerg, but I try Terran and Protoss here and there. (BTW: I play SC2 for a few weeks now - and thanks to your videos I think that I become better and better :) ...but these "edgecase-scenarios" are really killing it for me... CANT BREAK THEM!
1:32:30 - I have similar games in my other B2GMs for the other races too, but it's always the same thing. Make many bases, take many workers and if possible make a higher tier army, though even just massing mid-game units will usually do just fine as long as you keep killing their bases and don't let them expand. Make sure you join my discord and post replays in there to get free coaching advice: Join my Discord community! discord.gg/SkhbzCM
sounds like you got proxygated - remember if you scout no buildings in their base you're being all-in'd and need to do the proxy/12 pool reaction from the document. 2nd gate, 2nd pylon, cyber core, chrono 2 zealots then adepts or stalkers. Whilst you do this scout for the proxy location with a worker. EZ hold
In the PvT MU, where should you place your buildings in the beginning, generally speaking? Do you wall the natural, main ramp, or try to wall off for reaper? Assuming you do a 2 or 3 base build, that is.
Walling the reaper ledge or walling off one side of your mineral line to limit reaper movement is most standard, though walling the natural is ok as well
Hello! Started up the game after a few years or so Can someone please remind me how to play on the competitive maps in custom Melee lobby? I remember there was a specific term that was put into the search bar, which showed all the current competitive maps
Whats the reasoning behind hotkeying warpgates (not gateways) once you have the technology? Isnt the built-in key strictly better (so you cant miss one gateway or even one warp-in timing)
So long as you hotkey your gateways before they turn into warpgates so you can build units easily in the earlygame its fine to use the default later. This is just an old habit me and many old players have where we don't like using a different key for them in the earlygame vs later when warpgate finishes
That's for a core-before nexus video and is just a great little benchmark to remind yourself what a tight opener can look like. No delays on pylon, gate or core starting and bam you can get that started by 1:24 every game! Something nice to strive for
When is next video for this series dropping? Just came back after years and only played zerg previously. Working on toss now. One day ill learn terran.
Hey Pig, love your b2gm series for protoss i just got back into the game since 2017. Im having some success with this build, but im struggling eith going up against skytoss and the last 3 games in a row have been that and been on a bit of a losing spree. What is the best way to go up against skytoss becuase that seems like the major weakness of this build.
1:09:10 is a great example of this. I make it REALLY hard on myself by continuing to commit to the build and do a really crappy attack before transitioning to the correct response but still manage to win. If the moment you realise it's skytoss you basically swap into your own skytoss but greedier, with tempests to focus fire their carriers from afar, you can do really well
Oh man, I'd probably just try to figure out which race I'd have the most success cheesing with. I think I'd play Zerg but do a lot of dirty builds. I have the best understanding of how to play really filthy cheese as Zerg compared to my Terran and Protoss
Mutas and air in general is a weakness of this robo-focused style, as you get better at it observers will cover this weakness as you'll spot the air well ahead of time. If you run into this a lot make sure you push a little earlier with a few less robo units so you get over there before mutas are out. At higher levels I show a lot of games where we scout spire and respond with double stargate phoenix but I don't think that's a high priority in gold league as it's very hard to scout that well + macro at the same time.
You can try to rebuild another similar army and try again, but it's perfectly fine to just type Good game and leave to check your replay for a few points you can improve on. This is a very committed 2 base push, and if it gets absolutely squashed then you are very far behind and whilst a comeback is always possible, it's going to rely on some more advanced knowledge and skills. For now just doing the build better the first time is a great initial focus until you get a bit more experience.
You can't get demoted mid-season. You must have been placed in silver after placements and it was waiting for the new season to demote you to where your MMR had actually fallen to. Make sure you compare the MMR in your profile to burnysc2.github.io/MMR-Ranges/ (Broken right now but hopefully the API is fixed soon) You should expect to lose games whenever you're developing a new skill, that's how learning works. You don't instantly know how to do something the first time you do it
