2023 is around the corner, and maybe you're planning to start the new year with a brand-new watch to wear. After several days of looking into all the possible micro brands out there, I have selected 8 of my favourite and will explain why I chose them. Since I do not have these watches in hand, I can only speculate on them using my years of knowledge in collecting and repairing watches and the detailed specs on their sites. As usual, I am only interested in looking into each brand's mechanical models and avoiding all their quartz or battery-operated pieces.

Brother I love micros!! You left out Farer, Wolbrook, Henry Archer, Sinn, Spinneker, Traska, and Evant! Most of these are around 500 US. Include these in part 2. Everyone go check these out!!

Thank you for the presentation. I believe these micro brands are the future and deserve our attention just as well as the well known brands. They are the ones that can stretch the boundaries of design from an enthusiasts perspective. I enjoy all of these brands and find Straum particularly impressive. Also anOrdain, Ophion and Sartory Billard are worth noting.

Thanks for presenting these microbrands. Some would call these "Independent brands" to distinguish them from the ocean of truly tiny projects which get lumped into the category of "microbrand" I just purchased a Charlie Paris watch that is fantastic. 300 meters of water resistance, about $300, its great. From France.

Hello and thanks for this vid. As a micro brands lover from France, it has been a real pleasure to discover 2, ... and a half, brands from my country in your 8 micro brands list. ;) Except perhaps Vario and Peren, all these brands are great. And we are not, you and I, the only ones who are sharing this point of view as 2 brands of this list - Atelier Wen and Kurono Tokyo - are sadly sold out for now (and since months). If I may, I'd like to end this comment with 3 micro brands I like : Dan Henry (US), an0rdain (Scotland) and awake (France). Do you know these 3 ones? If yes, what are you thinking about?
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel Год назад
Thank you for the comment. Honestly, I wanted to include Dan Henry because I almost bought one of their 1939 pieces, but sadly it is a quartz watch. But if you do not mind owning a watch with quartz movement, grab their 1939 model, it is truly a beautiful watch to own. I would say both anOrdain and awake are beautiful watches in their own way. The Anordian Model 1 is really nice. But the style from Awake is not my taste.

@@TimelessHistoryChannel Thank you for your reply. About Dan Hnery, I bought a "1970", with a mechanical movement and a "compressor" style, and I'm very happy with it. I clicked on this video because it said affordable microbrands, but affordable usually suggests under $500, and only one of these was under that price. With current exchange rates those US$ can be prohibitively expensive and not at all affordable for many collectors on a budget, sadly. Kind of disappointing to find so few that were actually affordable in this video.

my biggest problem with Baltic watch is they using china movements yet charging so much and prices are still increasing and yet their designs are largely still copycats from other brands and microbrands . i seriously believe they must be china link or financially related somehow in such copycatting in all aspects.
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel Год назад
I get your point. And that's right, if the company continues to increase their price, it should also consider upgrading its movement. That is, if they want their brand to build a good reputation for quality.

Rhetorical question to all microbrand watch companies, for under $2000 I can buy Hamilton, Tissot, Seiko, Omega, Oris, Mido, Omax, Longines and many more magnificent, historical watches, all these companies spend decades of incredibly hard work to get were they are right now… in my humble opinion, microbrand guys want to start from the top… TRY AGAIN guys. More than $600 for a microbrand, is a waste of money. No apologies. 💋💋💋

While I own multiple watches from Hamilton, Tissot and Seiko, I'm stoked for the Atelier Wen's Perception. What it has to offer for its price, cannot be found in any of these 'historical old companies'. Gorgeous hand guilloche dial, with a 904L bracelet and one of the best micro-adjustment mechanisms found in any watch bracelet of any price, its asking price of $2788 makes it a steal. No doubt some people collect watches for the history, but some micro brand stuff are truly exceptional. Plus you get to talk to and buy from the founders themselves, learning their enthusiasm and forging great friendships. The buying experience is so much more personal than buying from any AD, and thus, giving your watch so much more meaning.
