Three of the best car brands that are worth the money. Subaru, Toyota, and Honda.

I purchased this exact car in magnetite gray/java leather back in December and I really like it overall. I'm not crazy about the ugly plastic cladding (that's why I chose a darker color) or the overly intrusive eyesight system. I also think the Outback has gotten too large in recent years and could stand to lose at least 6 inches in length and a couple inches in width, which would make it a bit more nimble. Aside from those minor annoyances, I love the turbo engine and the interior comfort features and overall build quality. So far I'm pretty impressed, but only time will tell how well it's really built. I hope to get 10+ years (about 175000 miles) out of this car. As for the fuel economy, you have to remember that most AWD systems are not as capable as Subaru's. Their system always drives all wheels, while most competitor's systems are FWD, only sending power to the rear if slippage is detected. This makes a significant difference in fuel economy, but it's a worthy trade off for superior traction.

Subarus are known for their reliability so you should have no problem getting 200k out of it. As far as sizes all maunufactirers are getting bigger. Surprisingly Outback is only about 4 inches longer than it was 20 years ago. Many grew 10 inches ( accord)

@@MattTheCarguy This is my 3rd Subaru, so I'm pretty familiar with the brand overall. Although they have always been excellent mechanically, they haven't always had the best interior build quality. Interior rattles in both of my previous models drove me crazy, but so far my Outback has none *knock on wood* As for the size, I have no idea how large the original Outback was, but this one feels very large, and I'm use to driving a midsize truck. I purchased this because I wanted something more compact, but it's only 10 inches shorter than the Nissan Frontier I owned previously.

Thank goodness we don't get that new front on the Outback in Australia. It's horrendous. I don't know what the chief designer in the Subaru design department was on when he penned that!

I have one, the Limited XT. I realized right away that I needed my flip-up polarized clip-on glasses because I can’t see the screen in daylight with the dark glasses. The backup camera is disappointing but at least in the Touring you get the camera in the rear view mirror. I don’t know if it stays on full time. I’m only getting about 16 mpg, it says, but my driving is mostly short-range in a very congested city. The map doesn’t offer a “direction up” option, just a “north up” which I find inconvenient. The stereo sound is very good. The touch door handle to lock doesn’t always work. The cellphone doesn’t always properly connect to the Bluetooth and I’ve had to answer the phone sometimes directly from the phone. The Touring offers several valuable features over the Limited for a couple thousand. I was torn between the two trims but I opted to save money and have the less risk of long-term malfunction. The more options the more that go wrong. I miss the ventilated seats mostly. After six months I am satisfied. Nice review. Edit: correction, the map does have a “direction up” selection, which I finally found.

Honda CRV and Rav4 are both about 180-182 inches long, much closer to the Forester’s dimensions.

valid point but what would you compare it to? it is smaller than Pilot and Highlander.

@@The_JL_Podcast than you need to drive to the factory and grab one as soon as they finish manufacturing it and have zero miles on it, which is not possible. I would understand your concern if I took this vehicle through its paces on the racetrack but simple acceleration test will not hurt it.

Will the turbo have longevity we expect from Subaru?
@MattTheCarguy
@MattTheCarguy Год назад
Lets hope so, but Subaru has been putting turbochargers in some models since 1983 so I think they had enough time to test them out. Of course these were different than the modern engines but same concept.

I’m starting to think all those finger prints on the touch screen are a bit of a turn off. This may not otherwise be obvious, even during an extended test drive. I’m still going to test drive this car when it finally shows up soon in Australia, but I’m going to pay close attention to the practicalities of that touch screen.

You likely haven't been paying attention to vehicle prices in recent years. Every brand has raised prices to capitalize on covid inventory shortages, but that's all about to change. With the Fed raising interest rates to their highest level in decades, prices will start to come down soon. It's inevitable. Add to that the fact that dealer inventories are starting to rise and you have growing pressure to reduce prices. That said, you can easily get a discount on any new Subaru via their VIP program. I got VIP and loyalty discounts on my 2023 Touring and saved almost $5000.
