You recommend this as a good purchase but it costs 56% more than a honda CB500X. With not much more performance and a whole lot more weight, it simply isn't worth that premium.
CB500x is not even in the same class as this. You would be comparing the NC750X at best and that is also a bike partial to the road where this appears to be built for off road at least by suspension and wheel size specs. If a little 500 has the same performance across the rev range as an 800 everyone would buy one.. The smaller chassis, engine, purpose are like an apple to oranges comparison but to each their own.. I wouldn’t buy either, the 1050 is the way to go especially now with the DE updates, or save a few grand and buy a slightly used or left over and have yourself a real full size adventure bike for as little as $7,800 from what I’m seeing.. 👍🏼
i tested it and it was fantastic. So easy . Very good compromises . you are instantly confident riding it , in the narrow twisties or a rough, gravel hill climb . this machine is so well balanced that you barely cant fall it .
@@TLE1977A yamaha will figure it out and rethink the little hole where they mount the cable mount, I hope. But the new Honda without a removable sub frame is a big stumble, luggage is going to ruin alot of people's experience. Some spec sheet warriors are appalled by the weight of the DE but don't account for the gram you save in one place is a pound of troubles in the woods. Only time will tell on these new bikes.
Drove this bike last week, never heard of it and was suprised. This is just a perfect fit for a tall person. It drives as a bike should drive. Give it a go!
Good torque, showa suspension, bolt on subframe, quick shifter, wire by ride throttle, good on road and off road, bit on heavier side, but can me manageable, might be suzuki have a winner on their hands, questionable tube tires.
I own bought new a 2013 V Strom 650 that now has 109,000 miles on it. Bought new a 2021 CB 500X & now have 11,900 miles on it. CB 500X really glad I bought it. Like it a lot. Enjoy more offroad as my adventure motorcycle more than the V Strom. Lighter & smaller makes it more fun. My "set ups" CB500 X is 100lbs lighter than V Strom 650. V Strom 650 is a better motorcycle. Has no problem keeping up with the BMW 1200 GS Adventure motorcycles. A fast Motorcycle and trouble free! My camping, multi-state trips motorcycle. The Honda CB500X is good. But cannot keep up with the Big Boys on the freeway! CB500X can cruise at 68-74 mph all day long. But slow compared to the bigger motorcycle. Faster really kills gas mileage. Both of CB500X & the V Strom 650 run on 87 octanes. Both great mileages. Got to love that. V Strom 800DE. I am sure a better motorcycle than V Strom 650! Everything looks great. Problem I have is. I Believe needs to run on premium gas Grr.! Really like Suzuki Motorcycles trouble free & normally a very good value for money spent. Will probably buy another V Strom 650 in the future. Great Value. Got the Money you will love the V Strom 800DE. Outside of my budget.
It is hard to consider a video to be a "review" when the reviewer is flown out on the manufacturers dime to an exotic location on an all-expenses paid trip. It's a promo. Just say it. We are fine with promos.
Amazing that if you take a bunch of motor journalists on a freebie long weekend to ride a bike around Sardonia,.. then surprise surprise, they all get to recommend it. Amazing that!
Must admit, I don't mind those headlights quite so much on the V-Strom. They have completely put me off the 8S, but I do quite like this. Still on the fence with the banana colour scheme though! 😄
I reckon they'd probably release a road-based V-strom, and since the road-based 1050 has a different (and better) color scheme, this one might have too.
@@gsm_liv8980 it is only the colour that puts me off with this one. I (somehow) didn't notice it at the NEC bike show, so didn't get to see how it suited these headlights, so am pleased they look OK on one of the bikes, at least. I'd like to stay with Suzuki, as my car is with them too, but at the moment Honda is pulling me in more with the new 750 Hornet!
Excellent video! Suggestion: at some point in the video, leave only the sound of the machine running, without any speech or background music. Most people who like motorcycles like to hear the sound of machines, whether combustion or electric. Thank you.
I was really torn between the Tuareg 660 and the updated 890 Adventure (base) as my next bike. I am starting to feel like the Suzuki is actually the right choice for me though. It’s basically just as good at where and how I ride, it has pretty much all the same features, and it’s cheaper. Plus, I’ve had a really good experience thus far on my Japanese Versys X-300 and hear that durability, reliability, and parts availability are just as good on Suzukis. Kinda tough to beat all of that. I can’t wait to check one out in person. 👍🏾
bearing in mind the huge mileages done on smooth black top surely it's a must. Most (all?) other Adventure bikes with ride by wire have it or at least the option
great review but, how come no ones talking about the fact that this bike comes with a quickshifter?? or am i just imagining and it does not... ? whats the deal? i actually just put a deposit down on a yellow model yesterday. should be here late June!
it's an adventure bike. Why not tell us all what we really care about off the bat? Cruise control? Suspension adjustability? Engine character? Vibration? Stop selling on behalf of the manufacturer Stop wasting our time

Firstly it's a privilege to see you and I hav been watching all your videos I need your help over choosing the between triumph tiger 850 and v-strom 800 de Since this both motorcycles appear to have similar spec on papers I need your help in deciding with respect to reliability , maintenance and resale value in the Indian market
So no cruise control? All those electronic aids on it but left that off? With the tires they use & the extra engineering to carry more fuel it seems they expect 90% on road 10% off. How is it that every Japanese manufacturer picks this as their 1 fail? You can get cruise control on KTM (optional) & Aprilia's (standard!) ADV middleweights, I guess the big 4 don't care if they lose customers that way.
Depends on how you define better. The parallel is lighter, more compact, and less complicated. That makes it easier to place in a chassis and potentially a more reliable mill. With the 270 crank, it should feel much like a V...but it's still not. Overall, it looks like a very good move, specially because the Vees have a reputation to live up to. Many in service today have crested 100K miles, and a few are over 200K.
yes, more cost effective, smaller dimensions and helpful for things like exhaust placement and better cooling since the entire exhaust system can be outside the bike, away from the motor and the rider.
I really enjoyed my 2014 Vstrom 1000 for 7 years, am now enjoying my KTM790 Adventure S and could well look at the Vstrom 800 next purchase - but that's ONLY IF it has cruise control and tubeless tyres. Otherwise Suzuki, it's a no - there is no excuse not to have these items which add so much convenience when touring
In my country the DL800 is more expensive than the Transalp by $1300 US (in conversion). At the same time, it is heavier and has no bluetooth connectivity (why is this not mentioned in the review?).With that in mind, I think the price of this bike is insane. Is a basic front suspension adjustment worth that much compared to Honda?
Up and down shifter is $1000. Suspension job is $900 to $1200. New frame every single time your honda muffler hits the rocks hard enough, who know how much$$. On the Yamaha reports are coming in of the front motormounts cracking. Bar above the display is for your gps or phone holder so why have bluetooth?
These press release reviews are nice but I always take them with a grain of salt. A bike company flies you out to a exotic location with 5 star accommodations you're not gonna be overly critical of the bikes flaws.
You are correct. You don't have to remove the tank to change the air filter. We have one of these at my work and you just pop the seat off to get to the air box. Quick and easy.
Looks good but come on Suzuki… tube type wheels… that’s big NO GO for me. Also steel tank is not good and it is a bit heavy. I’m afraid that I end up with ugly Tuareg 😂
Hi, I was wondering what adventure motorcycle to get after I get my driving license. I want japanese and something that can catch up with other riders on the road. Money is not an issue. Guys in my mc club say that I shouldn't get anything more than 650cc but I really love this new Suzuki 800de. I want to hear your opinion what beginner adv should I get? Thanks
Get a 300cc dual sport like the KLX Kawasaki and learn to ride the wheels off it on road and off. Then get the bigger bike. That's the smart way to keep your bike and your bod it one piece. Besides, you will have way more fun that way, and learn to be a much better rider. Most experienced riders forget what it was like to be a beginner and how easy it is to screw up.

The review needs a lot of improvement. I couldn't hear the engine noise which is one of the most interesting things when watching a review or first ride video. Where is the take with the riders view? It looks like a commercial for Suzuki only.

Other reviews have reported a noticeable and annoying vibration at around 5000 RPM, which corresponds to motorway speed as well as a few other shortcomings. I'm not sure this was the most objective review.
This review was as useful use as an ice cream seller on the North Cape...all the things that we already know from the specs lists and Suzuki - it will be a great Touring bike well equipped for the price but there is not a competent answer about the elephant in the room - How this slim, 230 kg. bike would be handling off-road in the hands of a bit more dirt-oriented rider. Nothing against the presenter, looks like a decent chap but we need an honest review, not an extended trailer of the bike :)
Aesthetics alone, Suzuki have done something really smart here that Yamaha and Honda have totally missed the mark on. They took the looks off a premium model (GSX-1000) and have been sticking it on their smaller displacement bikes. H/Y did the opposite, with the CB500F and MT-03's looks getting slapped into their higher dispacement bikes. It's all a mind game I guess, feeling like your getting something more preium vs a cheaper product, but...I mean thats kinda the point in how these bikes are marketed, right? I've had Honda's in the past, and am generally a fan, but man, I think they really missed the mark on the Transalp/ Hornet- what boring looking bikes!
That is your opinion and it’s obvious that you missed the mark when it comes to the T7. Because the Tenere doesn’t have the face of other bikes in the Yamaha line. And it was intended that way for a reason. It’s an adventure bike, not a 100% street bike. So let me get this right, in your opinion making all the bikes look the same is hitting the mark! Damn, that is boring! One of the things so many people like about the Tenere 700 is it’s looks. That thing not only looks like it can but it does rock off road. It can hold it’s own weight even against all the new bikes with electronic suspensions, traction control, and all the other BS that are more likely to break down. The T7, KTM 790 and 890, for example, they look the part. The 800DE, well, looks like a street bike to me. Which seems to fit the more at home on the street performance it has. Based in the opinions of a few who have ridden it.

If you are thinking about using it mostly on the road then the weight is not an issue, it might even be an advantage (more stable on highways). Would have preferred tubeless alright.
Honda Africa Twin is literally lighter than and more powerful than this. Suzuki yet again failing to deliver in the Adv segment. KTM continues to dominate the adv segment with their ktm 690 enduro and 790 Adv.
Just a shame they went with tube-type tires. I'm not at all interested in pulling off a wheel and removing a tire from the rim every time I get a flat.
A couple of things, people need to stop calling these videos, “review videos.” No they are NOT reviews, they are just mare opinions. You can’t ride a bike for a few hours or days and then think that you know enough to write or make a review video about it. I see this time of lousy videos as opinion or intro videos or first impression videos. Nothing more or less. The opinion of a person who has owned the bike for several months and have put quite a bit of miles on it, now that is review. Additionally, I find it extremely hard to take the opinion of a video blogger seriously. Most are like no bodies trying to make a name for themselves and under pressure of saying positive things about a bike in the hope to be allowed to test ride other bikes. Fort9 talked about this in a video. How he started to get invited to bike release test rides, but after being brutally honest about a couple of bikes, those manufactures never invited him back. Other journalists have complained of the same thing. I watch videos like these for the specs, while taking their opinion lightly. Hell, I own a Tenere 700, if I had listened to the “reviews” (wink wink) some people gave about it, I wouldn't had bought one and would had missed on owning one of the best adventure bikes ever. At least in my opinion and after riding it for a year an a half. Other than needing to adjust the suspension, the T7 has been perfect for me. I really don’t get why Suzuki didn’t use their V-Twin engine instead. The idea behind the parallel twin is that it would weight less because V-Twin engines weight more due to all the gearing. Also, because the V-Twin engine is longer, by switching to a parallel twin it would shorten the wheel base making it a bit more snappy. But they kept the weight of the bike high (more than the competitors) and the wheelbase long. Go figure! At the same time, I am happy that Suzuki designed it the way they did. Like with any other bike, for some it will be the perfect bike. Their dream come true machine. Perfect handling and all. While for others it won’t be and will fall short of their expectations for a new bike. There will always be people who will find something to complain about. Bottom line, you can’t make everyone happy. And one area that I still need to see, is the price once it makes it’s way to the US. Can it’s performance be good enough to justify spending more money than I would for a Tenere 700, or as much as other very capable bikes? Specially now with Yamaha announcing two more editions of the Tenere 700. The Extreme and Explore editions. And let’s not forget the World Raid edition. Oh, and sine this is a complete new model, new chasis, new engine, and so on, reliability is still need to be seen.
A lot of the extra weight can be attributed to the standard equipment, like the bash plate, quick shifter, longer travel suspension with larger diameter forks and heavier twin balance shaft engine. All good as far as I'm concerned. Also when in real world road riding conditions in strong crosswinds an extra 26kgs is very welcome.
@@jeffweier4824 I just took my Tuareg 660 through the mountains in Montenegro and it's just at the limit point weight wise for me. Wouldn't want a heavier bike (had NC750x in 2021, didn't enjoy it in some ways). Like I said we'll see what Suzuki is like in real life... but I totally agree with you that a quick shifter may easily add another 20kg to my bike when I put it on ))
If you're off-road you don't need 800cc of power and you certainly don't need a bike to weigh on the wrong side of 500 pounds. This bike should be 600cc, and weigh 420 pounds, or sell this one as-is, but with non-spoked wheels, as a road and trail bike.
Mini windshields.. Why doesn't any manufacturer put on a windshield for highway long rides? Always have to buy aftermarket shields or add wind deflection devices.
This bike looks like it's made in India. V-Strom lineup is getting worse by each consecutive generation. The design is very subjective, but we can all agree that Suzuki is really dropping the ball lately.
Quite expensive...for a 650. I wouldn't buy one anyway, not the bike for me. But a bit of stiffened up suspension and a plastic guard beneath the pipes, looks a bit OTT. And this is Suzuki, the under-cutters. I liked the review. It was all of the conclusions that I would question....
Please, Suzuki, show me marketing materials or internsl communications where the "V" was referred to as referencing "versatile". Although, I guess that would say something interesting about the Versys.
C. Walker: or indeed where it ever referred to a "V" engine configuration. And that is further put in doubt by the fact Suzuki stills labels this parallel twin a Vstrom.
