Welcome to the first extreme cleaning motivation video of 2023! In this video I will be throwing everything out for a fresh start. Come clean with me as I declutter the kids room and FINALLY get rid of this mess and shed some mental stress! I made this cleaning super easy by deciding to tell myself that if it is on the floor..then it is in the trash! I have tried many storage ideas small and big and the reality is that it is just to much to manage for a child and I no longer want to manage this! I want to ensure I can allow her own confidence building through her own routines and keep things minimal so we can start fresh this year and focus on other aspects of life AND still manage our spaces and home in a functional way!!
Are you going to be making any extreme home changes this year as far as decluttering or new routines for your schedule?? Would love to talk about it below. I felt a little bad as a mom doing this, but also did not because she did not even care HAHAHA

I think all the long-time viewers saw this coming lol. And although it makes for great content, I can't imagine how mentally exhausting it is to keep doing these types of cleans. So, bravo for starting to tackle the root behaviours creating this chaos!

@@MomLikely I have 4, my oldest is now 18. Trust me her room has seen those days. Now with my youngest I've got a decent system down. Hamper in bathroom, and bedroom anywhere clothes come off put hamper. No eating in room helps if they need to be comfy snacking, living room is better.... Then teaching evening reset before dinner. Have them Pick up toys. Clothes in hamper. Trash in trash. Those simple things help so much. She's got a "creative spirit" lol just like my oldest. They're brain is always on 1000 go go go.

More power to ya, Mom! Am glad your video showed up on my side-list (whatever it’s called ☺️) Just subscribed. Wow! I applaud you! That’s a lot of work!!! You showed real messes on the internet, you’re brave, many aren’t willing to do that. Great job mom ❤ less is more! Have you ever heard of the flylady? They have a kids version that you can download and put in a binder that will help her with daily tasks so it doesn’t get overwhelming again. She’s changed my life

I did this when my daughter was around 8/9 years old, she was overwhelmed with all the stuff, she expressed to me one day "Mom this is your fault, you are the one that buys me everything" that hit me like a ton of bricks! Very huge learning lesson for me as a mom, she is going on 21 with her own place now and we have the greatest relationship! Good mom you are being by helping her! 👍🏽💐

Yes!!!! Same here!!! I think as moms we’ve just done so much for so long, they all just EXPECT us to keep doing it. We’ve created this by just doing so much and being the best we can be at everything & now we’re just exhausted! Here’s to us moms who are putting ourself first & passing off some responsibilities to others in the house🎉🎉🎉

What a beautiful kindness you have done for your daughter! I have no idea why kids churn through their all belongings without actually playing with any of it. I believe it’s a sign of overwhelm and discontentment. Having only the few things you truly love helps you feel grateful and contented and invested in and responsible for you possessions. It’s a fantastic life lesson. Well done!

They learned real quick to keep their room clean after that. Sometimes we have to be tough on them. They also learn to value what you give them. You did good!! Don’t be hard on yourself.👍

Absolutely and as a side note my husband has had to move around his mothers things because she has to much and one of his dilemmas is the fact that he try’s to not live like that and he is going to be the one having to face all of the stuff when she is gone because she can’t handle it . I wish you the best of luck. I hope you can get rid of things. ❤️

As sad as it might have been for her to see this for the first time, I bet she’s secretly relieved. I remember when my kids bedrooms looked like this. And I used to try to put it all back together. But it was too much. I finally had to do something similar. And we have to remind ourself that if all those things were loved and cherished they wouldn’t be ruined and in piles all over the floor. You did good.

That’s how my step mother raised me as well. If everything was shoved in drawers she dump every drawer in my room into a giant pile including my closet and toy chest. I’d sit on the floor and cry next to the pile the whole day. Get grounded etc. It was overwhelming. I’m grateful for it as an adult because it taught me what not to do or rather what won’t work.

I am a wife and we do have pets however, While I don't have the Mom perspective, I can tell you that setting boundaries for yourself are so very important. No judgement should come from how you need to take care of you so that you can be the best version of yourself for you and your family. Honestly I would not have done anything different than you did. It is mentally draiing to have to keep up with things like that and now your kiddo will have exactly what she plays with and nothing more. Less things for her and you to take care of. You keep doing what's best. Thank you for sharing your real life and keep being amazingly you.

AMEN AMEN, I totally totally understand. My daughter, granddaughter, husband and myself all live together. I am now 65 yrs old retiree. When my granddaughter was 4yrs old, every Friday, she and I would clean up her room and she loved it. I taught her the three pile system, 1st pile was "trash", the 2nd pile was the "I don't know pile", and the 3rd pile was "keep & put it where it belongs" & and we would sing the song "clean up, clean up". I told her when she gets older she's going to do it by herself. This worked so well until she turned 9yrs old. The room went to the opposite side of the world. So I get it, I snapped. Just throw everything out. I'm praying for you, I'm praying for your daughter, your family. Remember to breathe, take care of yourself, replenish your strength. Kudos to all that have to go through these kind of issues. Just know you're not by yourself keep smiling sweetie aka mom_likely

this made me so happy, I’m 15, currently cleaning my room and getting rid of basically everything and redecorating and this video made me feel just pure joy, my room had no where to walk, the rubbish and childhood toys and clothes piled up at least 1 metre high and you could not see the floor, I threw out everything (apart from clothes and very few toys to keep) and what I didn’t throw out I’m in the process of selling or donating, my room is bare, I’m selling all the furniture, bed, draws, and desks and everything, I’m repainting the room and starting basically fresh. this video made me so happy that this girl is gonna have a clean room and it makes me so happy, hope everything goes well for you, you’re doing incredible

Stumbled across this video. It takes guts to post a video like this. I know with our family, our eldest just turned 9 and she is really artistic and has hoarding tendencies. My spouse purges her room regularly and I deep clean it, as I suck at purging. Good luck to managing the home better in 2023.
@nnylasoR
@nnylasoR Год назад
Hi …. I just want to say I am 42 and battling lifelong hoarding disorder - and although I do not know you, your husband, nor your sweet girl, I have much to say on this matter. I can say with certainty that my “tendencies” were brought on / fueled / exacerbated by not only touchy family dynamics, but due to my belongings, my precious things, my comforts constantly disappearing. I was not the one deciding to part with them - they were just, GONE. 🥺 That sort of thing **is** traumatic, and causes some of us to grasp tighter to anything we can. I pray that you all have loving, empathetic relationships with eachother, and I hope that you involve your daughter in these ‘purges.’ Yes, she is your child and that is your home - but it is her home too and she is a human being. She not only has emotions and reasons behind her “tendencies,” she needs your guidance and the decision-making practice… as well as practice bettering her space and sense of accomplishment and *worth.* ♥️♥️♥️
@MomLikely
@MomLikely Год назад
I agree! There are a few things she asked for in her room and come the spring if she keep showing she is Lerner and participating in the family chores dynamic as reward I’m going to find her the items and hopefully that will encourage her to love the space and keep it nice more on her own too.I’m sorry these things have happened with you ❤️ maybe category decluttering could help you discard unused items.

Yes, yes, yes!! I had to do this with my 8 yr old daughter. We would clean her room together and the next day.... it was a complete disaster. I repeatedly told her if its on the floor, its going in the trash. I would always try to save a few toys for her but I also thought, if she doesn't care about it then why should I. So in the trash it went, or donated if we could. I felt bad for doing this but felt so relieved after it was done. Her room is alot more manageable for her and I now. Glad we did it!
@darbirhian
@darbirhian Год назад
@@TheW3avers I can understand this. I'm getting to this point with my daughter. It's the mess on the floor that gets me, as it's like the entire space is game for everything and any little thing. I find a bit of clutter or mess on her furniture is far easier to manage as the space is far smaller. Her room is better now than it was a few years ago, and every so often she is motivated to tidy up and organize her things. She doesn't really notice when her dad purges; she hoards a lot of junk, quite frankly. It's so freeing to be rid of it!

I'll reiterate the "no judgement"! I'm a mom of 8 and our house was nuts, disgusting, messy, cluttered, out of control and just crazy most of the time. I'm proud of you! First time watching for me. My daughter used to do garbage bag cleaning. She told kids to pick up only the things they wanted to keep and everything else went in garbage. Keep going mom you're great to have goals for your kid's development.

I totally see where you are coming from and I've watched you clean her room time and time again! I grew up with a Mom that was OCD about our things. We literally kept tallies on toys- we had to count pieces while putting things away. No game/toy ever lost a piece. Some of my toys stayed in the box forever. The crazy thing is, our house was filled to the brim with clutter and "collectibles", yet it was methodical. I'm now somewhere in the middle when it comes to my own kids. I let them play, be imaginative, and actually use their toys but they have to treat their things with respect. If a piece goes missing, no big deal I will eventually find it and put it back. But I'm huge on treating your things with respect. But kids are kids and I'm always loosing my marbles too LOL. Sending hugs, you're doing awesome 🤗

Hi 👋, first off, thank you for sharing your life and home with us. You are seen and heard Momma! I'm currently at this stage with my house, three girls under 8 and we're drowning and it's not the mom I want to be nor the lesson/examples I want to give them. Your thoughts, hopes, goals and geniuine honesty in this video spoke directly to my heart. Keep up the fabulous work! 🤗

WOW! That was bad! First time viewer here. Thank you for being vulnerable. People may judge, but you are helping others who feel they are alone in their mess. 2 weeks ago, I reset my 8 years old daughter's bedroom, too, and we donated a lot. My goal was to get it manageable for her. Good luck with your goal. I pray you get yourself and your family where you want to be mentally and physically.

Hello! I'm new here (suggested by Midwest cleaning magic) but ooooh momma did I feel this video. I just spent a full day with my college student overhauling their room at home. It's not that I haven't taught my children how tidy, clean, take care of things. But this kid had gotten overwhelmed, a little buried, and needed the grace to start fresh! Everything is a season.

I found you through Midtown Magic Cleaning. I am 71 now but I have two children who shared a room and I remember the days of not being able to see the floor. I too would make my children help but as they were small I did the majority but it is important so they know how to clean up a big mess. I found out my kids were trying on clothes and then dropping them to the floor unworn well finally I figured that out and said fold them in your drawers if they are clean or I will put them in the trash, same with anything else on the floor. I gave them crates with categories that went in their closet and even though it took repeated episodes my grown children both keep a well organized house and they have good work ethics. They have pride in their work. So don’t despair you are raising responsible humans.🙂

I believe most of us are feeling this in one area of life or another. I love that you are feeling a need to have a change “of season”. God teaches us best in terms of seed and harvest. Plant good seeds for you and your family and wait patiently for the harvest. ALSO, image how she must feel. Over stimulated, overwhelmed maybe even like she is disappointing you when she can not manage these great things you have given her. Less may be empowering for her and in the end you! Do it with love. It is already okay.

Girl. I feel you. I have three children and my oldest is the worst at his room. I always tell them that it doesn’t have to be perfect but if we are grateful for our things/home then we need to take care of it. It also take teamwork so if they need help, kind of like you were saying we can help each other. You did a great job. ❤

All parents go through something like it, so it happens. What I have learned with my two... 13 and 17 YR olds was being consistent with teaching them to clean and realizing they both learn differently... My son (13) don't handle the details very well, so I keep his room very minimal and I always make sure everything has a place. Now my 17yr old when she was younger, she worked better with chore charts. She enjoyed marking off when she tackled a chore. I also tried to make cleaning fun for them when they were younger, so we would play music and have dance cleaning parties, so it was easier to keep them on task and they would want to clean. Since they are older, those things have stayed with them. They both play music when they clean😂😂. Do they still have moments when they don't get it all done... Yes Lord🤦🤦 but the consistency is what works the best and making sure you know how they learn. Parenting is trial and error, so we don't always get it right the first time. Every child is different. The fact that you see the problem and sometimes, we as parents can be the problem😒 the wins are when we recognize it change it and move forward. WELL DONE MOM👏👏👏🥰🥰

Your daughter is incredibly lucky to have such an understanding mom. I have diagnosed ocd that I struggle with, my children live in an extremely minimalist house and I worry that they miss out on toys or learning to handle their spaces. But watching and listening to you takes some of the guilt away. They don’t need/ can’t handle having all the things; they need a curated space to focus on what matters most to them. 🎉Happy New Year’s

You are a good mom. Its a start...you have good goals so just stick to them (nobody's perfect, get the kids involved. Make a daily cleaning chart for them and reward them with stickers on the chart that turns into $ at the end of the week or month ) and like you said cleaning is an ongoing job. We all gotta LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES and dont repeat them

I’ve been feeling completely defeated by the state of my house. We have too much STUFF and not every member of the family takes responsibility for their stuff. I have small kids and m constantly torn between ‘Your house will be dirty all the time because your kids are enjoying themselves. This is what they do’ and ‘I cannot function in an untidy place so I work myself to a standstill and spend all my time doing this and still don’t get to enjoy a clean space’. Thank you for this video. I needed this. It’s motivating me as I’m soon embarking on a similar project.

Hello Dear, I have to watch your channel for a while. Sorry to hear you were ill glad to see you better. Just take one day at a time. I have 3 children and can remember getting on my kids about their rooms (when they were older). I also was a single mom and working. When my kids did what I asked, I took things away from them and they understood why?. It is a hard job, mom's work is never done. But it will make us stronger. Two of my are grown but I have 14 yr old one and have to double-check his cleaning or help sometimes. what I did when I not feeling like to self, I do self care like getting my hair, and nails, spa day something that makes me feel good. Also, I read my bible daily which helps a lot. Help see things clearly . I can relate to how you feel (no judgment from me) I have been there. God bless and stay blessed.

This is the first video of yours I’ve ever seen and as a mom of five I can so relate. I am so proud of you for removing all that garbage. It was clearly not stuff she needed. I truly do not see this as a punishment but rather as a gift. Like you said she could not manage it. You yourself were so overwhelmed. As seen in brief pauses on the video along with what you said. Imagine being little dealing with that. Aside from not giving back the computer I feel like she must have felt relief when she saw she had her peaceful space back. I hope it’s helped all of you keep her room a peaceful retreat. And I’m so glad you flipped the bed for her too. Good idea mom.
