At Toyota Angeles City Philippines. Cost of 2023 Fortuner upper trim level is ~$45,000 USD. 2016 Fortuner 4x2 lower trim level (same generation) was ~$27,000 USD when new. Is it worth $18,000 for all the upgrades on the new model?
This 2023 is fully decked out with leather, power seats, parking sensors, backup camera, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, wireless phone charging, upgraded JBL sound system, larger infotainment screen, Bluetooth streaming audio, electronic HVAC control, electronically powered tailgate, 360° cameras, 4x4, Bridgestone Dueler HT tires, ABS brakes, downhill assist control, differential lockers, and a 4x4 2.7 liter turbo diesel engine (vs 4x2 2.4 liter turbo diesel on basic model).
I'm thinking the basic model will suffice for $18,000 USD cheaper? These are very versatile vehicles and perfect for a family traversing around the Philippines. They can handle rough roads and off-road conditions with ease. They are very reliable and cheap to maintain vs other brands. Toyota is #1 in the Philippines and parts are readily accessible for the Fortuner 2016 - onward. Toyota Angeles has done high quality service on my Fortuner, and it runs and drives like new.
2016 is the first year of this generation. My 2016 has 67,000 miles (112,000 km) and it still feels like a new car. It only cost 27 grand (1.5 million pesos). Since I'm a 'car care nut', I'm always at Toyota doing maintenance to keep it like new. The Fortuner rewards me in spades for excellent maintenance. It is one of the most wonderful vehicles I've ever owned.
Toyota Fortuner has the exact same engine and chassis as a Toyota Hilux. It's like comparing a Chevrolet Tahoe to a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Except it must be reiterated - these are non-EPA Diesels.
Get Diesel - they're more efficient and the torque at low RPM is awesome. This is a modern diesel with a small four liter turbodiesel. Luckily the emissions is relaxed in the Philippines, and there's no DEF/Adblue nonsense required. These emission requirements ruin Diesel motors. Just keep it simple. Thanks Toyota!
