Marlin is a trail-tough mountain bike that’s ready for any all-terrain adventure, whether you’re exploring the forest on singletrack or navigating the urban jungle. It’s durable, versatile, easy to accessorize, and just as much at home on potholed city streets as on the dirt.
Lloyd puts all 4 trims side by side and points to the differences you get with each price point.

What if my need is to commute 20km a day on rough terrain?
@BumsteadsBicycles
@BumsteadsBicycles Год назад
For commuting I would look at the dual sport line from trek. Should handle the terrain and be more efficient than a mountain bike

No I would say It is not a great bike for real trail riding. I bought mine marlin 4 for city biking. Copenhagen is full of road work and cobblestone roads which makes mountainbike essential.

The Marlin four. Better than any bike you could buy on Amazon for the price. If all Amazon buyers knew about the Marlin four, they could sell so many more.

I just ordered the matte black marlin 4 gen 2 with 29er wheels. i got it for 380 UK pounds. im 52 years old using it only to commute 10 miles a day on tarmac roads to work maybe 3 days a week but with one big hill on the way.i looked at hybrid bikes but like the look of the bike the route I use is rough in places with some big potholes and I bump up and down curbs riding through the middle of a town centre. my current bike is a crappy old MTB with 26 inch wheels I have never owned a new bike before so sure this will feel like a Ferrari.

The Marlin four. A Walmart priced bike with trek and bike shop quality and service. It should be the best selling bike. if only Walmart shoppers knew about it..

great job explaining the different Marlin bikes. I am 76 and getting back into biking no more of the old days of coming down the mountain I use my Marlin 5 for fun rides around town and flirting with all the women I get a chance to see biking. I would like to say to new riders do not go to the big box stores for a bike go to a bike shop and buy an entry-level bike like I did the knowledge you get the support you get and repairs when needed you just can not put a price tag on spend a few hundred dollars more and ride a quality bike that can be serviced and one you will be proud to have the name on the bike if you do buy a big box store bike you after a year of ownership you will understand what I mean here there is a big all around difference I hope you found this helpful have fun out there never too old to bike

I think I'm going for the 6. I want the 1x, I didn't even see the 7 but I know he has the 5 for 600 and the 6 for 750, that seems to be pretty average for them

Funny I just picked it up!!!! I've been out in the woods for an hour, actually end up buying the 7, guy gave me a deal on it I couldn't pass up, all said and done I was out the door for under a grand with a free tune up and cupholder. Place is real local to where I've lived the last 3 years so that's awesome, I see myself being in there alot, the place I grew up in riding BMX is still a bike shop....but it's changed, I remember going in there in the early 2000s they had 2 floors, full skateboard shop, huge parts selection of BMX mountain and road bikes, family owned, they sold it, still the same name, still 2 floors. Not even close to the same shop. They used to have couches and a TV with vhs tapes of just xtreme sports in general. I remember watching a few when they came out in the shop, they still have decent bikes there but it's a strange environment. None of the people there seem to know anything helpful except about the e bikes which is crazy because they have like 10 people and maybe 4 e bikes

I purchased the M6 fits all my needs currently but will upgrade to a Procaliber in a year or so. With that being said I did feel a bit ripped off by trek as the earlier models had the routing capability for a dropper but the 2022 did not… my fault for not looking and just assuming.. but over all the 6 is a great bike and I have ridden the heck out of it for a year now. Thanks for the Great video.

I agree on the dropper capability, we have installed a few by removing the crank and bottom bracket to make access for the cable internally. A lot more work ! Enjoy

FWI, TREK Marlin 5 bikes are perfect to convert into electric bikes, they are good rugged looking commuters that can take being thrown around a lot more than just a city mountain bike lookalike, it is a proper mountain bike that you'll more than likely break on a trail though but keeping it safe, few kerbs and bumps here and there it'll eat it all up like nothing happened, so for 500/550 you're gonna be really happy with that also with the option to tuck all the cables without drilling into the bike. it's really stable when you're going fast thanks to the whole design of the bike you're not gonna be front or back heavy it grips to the road, so if you convert it to go 30/35 mph you'll not feel in danger when up to speed.

Okay so what's the difference between the Gary Fisher version of the trek Marlin?
@BumsteadsBicycles
@BumsteadsBicycles 5 месяцев назад
Gary originally had a bike named the Marlin, Trek bought his company and now has multiple versions. It would be hard to compare considering how long ago for the original

Straight steerer tube, no thru-axles, no internal routing for a dropper post. I have a 2021 Marlin 7 and feel like I was uninformed on what I was getting as a new rider at the time.
@BumsteadsBicycles
@BumsteadsBicycles Год назад
It’s hard to know what you truly need as a new rider. On entry level bikes spend money on the accessories you will need such as a good helmet,gloves,tools hydration,protective gear. Ride the bike for a year, then you will have a better idea of your needs in a bike. Good luck and remember it’s not the bike but the quality of the rider!

What You recommend for driving on road or road + offroad?
@BumsteadsBicycles

For on road I would suggest the Trek FX bikes. For road/ off road the Marlin 5 is a great choice

@@BumsteadsBicycles I'm a beginner, I want to drive mainly on off-road roads, nothing too extreme. The question is which of the offered bikes has the best investment-gain ratio, quality, equipment, etc. All of these models fit me when I sit on them, every frame is ok for me. What would you choose in that price range?

Is it true that the hydraulic brake doesn't work when you drive too fast and too long or when the water from the break heats up? Please answer me
@BumsteadsBicycles
@BumsteadsBicycles Год назад
Hydraulic brakes can heat up under extreme conditions, but rim brakes can also. For most people this is very rare but if you are planning to go down very steep hills make sure you have bigger rotors , this helps with cooling. Shimano makes brakes with cooling fins on the pads and special rotors for more cooling
