2023 Triumph Street Triple 765 R vs RS! Which one should you buy? | Long-term test 

How's your experience so far on the R? I am planning to get it as my first bike as well.

@@doyouthinkmyusernameistoolong I thought I bought the bike (first bike too) that I thought would carry me through the first 3 years. I'm learning to ride. A big enough big that wouldn't bore me after a season, but not too big to scare me away from riding. I got that right. Its smooth. Its fast. It handles very well. up/down quickshift. Traction control. "triple" noise at full song. ... but I'm forty. No cruise. No heated grips. No screen, let alone fairing. Over 85kmh/h, unless "pushing" is uncomfortable, due to the wind. Riding position is "too" forward after 60-90 minutes. Snatchy throttle at slow speeds. You can feel the plastic of the seat digging into your ass after 90 minutes. ... I've now ridden a GSX-8R, a GSX-S1000GX. The 8R is the same "position" but somehow more comfortable and a lot slower, and not as well built. The GX is way more upright, full screen, cruise, and more powerful, but feels slow, and not as much a fan of the I4 music as I am of the twin or triple. I'm now looking at bikes like the Honda Africa Twin, KTM 890 ADV R, but also Scout 101 and Sportster S. HMU, and I'll go into more detail if you want.

@@wrenchturners that's a well enough description, that's why I see many people say that, "don't go all in for the first bike you might prefer something altogether." By your description it seems that an adventure tourer would be so perfect. I am also thinking about not going all in on the R, might regret it lol. Since aprillia has rs457 seems perfect to start with and maybe go for R if I am actually bored or tired of it. Thanks for the brief info.

She's entertaining, engaging, knowledgeable, friendly, and very good in front of the camera. Her and Neevesy are very good in this video together. Like to see more from her on these videos. Triumph could clip lots of this video and use it to sway potential buyers.

How is the reliability? Any problems?

​​@@alexbusteni I've suffered no reliability issues at all. Mine is up to 20k miles. Was fully serviced by a competent mechanic who was surprised at the quality of everything.

I'm not ashamed to admit I got the RS because it would itch my brain knowing I settled for "sensible and good enough" on the R 😂

Couldn't agree more. That is the biggest negative I found on my 20 RS. Has track focused suspension and electronics settings, only the display has no real track mode.

The whole dash looks horrible I prefer the analogue dash from triumph

My Speed 1200's dash options are terrible compared to my old '18 Street Triple RS's. Speed has two options that are slight color changes and that's it. The '18 RS had 3 main options that changed the whole layout of the dash and tach. Not sure why Triumph continues to make the dash worse for the Speed and newer Street.

@@jpow4893 yeah, the dash on my 2018 1050 RS was excellent. I had assumed the dash on the 1200 was similar.

Triumph actually had it on the 17-19 RS but are reflashing older bikes coming in for service with the wing design. They're doubling down on the design

The road setting for fueling is smooth. Sport fueling has a slight bit of abruptness when rolling on from zero.

An R will do

I am a fatty and the street triple is still good. Suspension is very firm on the RS.

😂 they have had so many parts issues. Rather hard to get anything from them. But I do agree the brutale is far more exhilarating to ride.

The Triple is Soo nice to ride, haven't tried the MV yet

​@@ARCHSTANTON61 Clearly they have close cooperation and I suspect Triumph is spending a lot on advertising on MCN... (I can't see any advertising as I don't have any of their paper magazines nor can I see ads on their website as I use ad blockers). I have no problem with media companies who can't sustain themselves without making ad videos for companies...as long as they mark them as such and disclose their relationship. It is also good practice to sometimes also acknowledge products from competing companies. I do understand not including them in all features, like this one. I am however allowed to bring up competitors in comments sections.

@@autoblipper3546 yeah in the uk. spark headers, akrapovic exhaust and Rapidbike tuning module and a custom tune in the dyno.

@@autoblipper3546 I bought the headers separately.. Probably about 1400 all in.

I always lower my bikes gearing, so I'd probably enjoy this. Usually they're geared way too long...

@@lordgibbness For street riding I tend to leave them stock. However, when I was racing I’d use different sets all relative to the longest straight. The longer the straights the higher gearing. The only downside from nearly 1,000 laps around my old home track being Phillip Island is the start. Especially if you’ve qualified on the first 3 rows as in these positions, with sprockets to increase max speeds it also makes a quick launch a little bit harder as these grid positions are also up hill by just over 5%.

@@marcusgeorge1825 yeah good idea to set accordingly on the track. For the road, I found both my supernaked's geared too high. My Aprilia, I added 4 teeth to the rear. My BMW, I took 2 teeth away from the front (although I may balance this a little by taking 1 tooth away from the rear also). My mt07 is quite short geared so it's pretty much how you'd want it stock (although it should be running a 520 chain really).

@@lordgibbness Chain wise, I just stay with the size it comes with from the factory as they know more about this than most do and just have a couple of different sprockets as options.

@@marcusgeorge1825 you'll have bikes like the Aprilia rs660 on 520 chains. Most 520s are rated up to 800cc. The 525 will last a little longer though. I always stick to 525 on my litre bikes (even though you can get very high quality 520 chains like they run in MotoGP - it's just not worth the cost).

Any 1000 cc? I have an old GSX-R1000 k2,and want to make a change! But my friends still got 1000 supersport and I'm wandering if I can keep the peace with them(twisty roads,not straight lines)!
