@@PatrickJTezak we reviewed a 2020 Cadillac XT4 2 years ago! We will see if it’s been changed enough to do another review. The XT4 is a great option too!
I've had multiple friends get the Volvo xc40 and xc60 and they have had 0 problems and their drive is insaaaaaane! Super safe and super reliable especially in a crash situation. Hands down best small luxury suv for families if you can afford it
You talk about crash. Intresting. My comment The outside looks stunning. Apparently there are some electronic features that sucks. Like the deem scroller was removed to safe few bucks. Gear stick has torch light inside that you cannot turn off. Greed, plus luck of practicality compromises the safety. The more people go through screens to turn on/off some features the more accidents are on the roads. ... Pity that there are more people who wants to show off rather than to get to destination safely.
Interesting, because i have also owned the XC40 and now Q3 and think exactly the opposite. While the screen of the volvo could be tapped with anything like a pen or a stick or whatever because of the infrared sensors, those sensors made it feels slow. The Q3 has a more modern faster screen in my opinion.
Yes. Sorry. Q3 is better. I know everyone is different but the Audi rides better and is so easy to interact with the screen. Just have a micro wipe handy
Just about to pick up my second one. Had a T5 Inscription Pro for the past 4 years and absolutely loved it - apart from one thing: the crystal gear knob came off twice. The first time Volvo replaced it under warranty, the second time I just used superglue as otherwise I would have had to replace the entire selector unit which would’ve cost £400+ !
I have enjoyed my 2019 version and the driving experience has been excellent . Regarding reliability , I had a trunk latch that needed replacement in the 2 years so far.. lately I have noticed the audio will go quiet at random times but not enough where it’s an issue , just a minor observation
We just purchased a xc40 upgrading from a RAV4 hybrid unlimited. Much better ride, quieter, and more comfort. Less interior storage in the back and, well, the gas mileage. .... But we couldn't get a hybrid in the 6 months we were waiting. Changing brand has been a little difficult as we have to go to the manual in the end for guidance. So most issues have been operator error. We did have an issue the other night that the whole climate system wouldn't work. Once we shut the car off, waited a minute, then turned it back on, it was fine. And the radio volume didn't turn on twice, but with that google could turn it on. That (a) button - I have to figure out what that is for- didn't catch your explanation. Overall, we haven't had it a month and love the ride. Liked your honesty - took us a bit to address the locking and unlocking of the doors. It's nice they give you the option of just locking and unlocking from one door or all doors. Anyway, nice review!
as a 2020 XC40 owner! I'm glad I went with the XC40 2+ years now and 29k miles :) and it's been a very enjoyable experience, but it sucks that they omit a lot of things and no longer black roof etc.
I like the way you roll and deliver info . Reliability is always a hug thing in a car purchase . I would like you to do a little research and deliver to us your way . Thanks
I’m excited to see your review of the XC40! I have an early MY22 T5 Inscription and I love it. I was torn between the XC40 and the Q3 (I live in a city and typically park on the street, so I wanted a smaller SUV). I test drove both and really enjoyed them, but found the XC40 to be more refined in terms of the ride quality and interior. The infotainment system is…not awesome, lol! The Audi is definitely superior in that regard. With that said, although I really liked the Q3, I fell in love with the XC40 for the features you cited!
I’ve never seen one of your videos, but your humor reminds me of Trevor Noah. Your voice/delivery is right there. Haha! Thoroughly enjoyed this review. Appreciated!
Surely if the parcel shelf is upside down the bag storage would work? You can see the folding part has a cutout to match the shaping of the top side of the parcel shelf.
I have had 3 XC40 cars since 2018. The first was a diesel which was great although a little noisy but a great car. The next was in 2020 when sales were trying to be boosted and then it was a 2.0L petrol and was smoother certainly. I have just 10 days ago collected another new XC40 after a great deal was offered and I could not say no. Some slight issues are no longer made but this is certainly smoother and quieter than the 2020 model. Dials are smaller and I will get used to them no doubt but initial driving seems pretty good from what I have found. A very comfortable and well made car indeed.
OMG. The best car review I have ever seen. What do you think of the 2024 Volvo XC40 versus the 2014 Toyota Venza Limited? Besides the Venza having more trunk space--is it bigger in the car? I know you have to pay extra for the sunroof, etc.?
Test drove the XC40 petrol hybrid (took it away for the day), too small for a family in my opinion. Also quite rigid to drive. The Kia Sorento Petrol Hybrid 2023 is far superior and comes off cheaper, the 7 seater fits families small and large comfortably. You'll struggle having just a small child let alone a dog or even more children in the XC40. The interior and mod cons are severely lacking without paying an extortionate price as well. This is considered a 'small SUV' where is a Kia Sorento is considered a 'large SUV' in the same region as an XC90, LR Discovery etc. My last car was a Land Rover Discovery Sport and the XC40 felt like a downgrade. The Kia Sorento really felt great in comparison but didn't handle as well as the Land Rover Discovery sport but it was better in other ways. XC40 doesn't even get a sniff in to any of these SUV's and for the price they're charging for them I'd run a mile.
Great review!! And, I just put a down payment on the 2025 XC40 that I'll be picking up in Sweden - Volvo is the only European OEM that still flies customers to the factory to take possession of the vehicle, puts you up for a night and flies you home - after a nice European vacation of course! Also, did you know, this XC40 has an entirely female engineering team? Additionally if you do take safety seriously, there is zero competition. They have come a long way from the crazy little box like things in the early days. Can't wait to get mine this Summer!
From the smaller SUVs like the X1 BMW, XC40 Volvo and Audi Q3 the Beamer is the driver’s car but the Volvo is the number one traveler’s car due to its better waftability than the other brands, including GLA and Evoque.
We’ve been thinking about downsizing from our 2019 xc90 T6 to the xc40. My wife doesn’t like the with of the 90 and the xc60 Is the same width as a 90.
First time I hear an honest point about reliability. Reviewers hardly give numbers on reliability. Also, I prefer Apple carplay so the Google story wont work for me. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
the car is beautifull the only 2 things they should adjust the rear seat need to be a little bit more angled to the back becaus as you said in long trip you cant feel confortble. second thing the display design in the dashboard is ugly, it looks like 2014 Renault capture LCD.
Ok for me apple other than in a pie means nothing so the whole system will do for me. Did you know you are the only reviewer who has looked into a boot ( yes I am English,) it's a boot and used a tape measure I don't need to know how many litres it will hold,I won't take it in a river and for that alone it's a thumbs up for me
The only reason you'd want apple carplay is for google maps, spotify etc but you can do all that with the native OS. I have an iphone 14 but don't plan on using apple carplay in my xc40 recharge.

I got one (2023) The infotainment is laggy and many times the camera does not work I had to take to the dealership because all the sensors and camera stop working ( 2000 miles ) So far experience has not been good , not recommended They said it was a software problem that was fixed , but back up camera does not work properly
Got a 2023 hybrid core for a month. The remote start of the volvo apps not working and it's sad that's the only way to remote start and it has not been working more than half of the time since it got stuck at "car started" status and so it won't allow remote start. And help has not been helping at all. Still trying to figure out on my own pretty much. New England weather here makes that tough to swallow with that not working in the early morning.
Can understand, the Volvo app has been loosing functions , I had a Volvo 2019 and at that time the app was working very well with lot of information. Now ,2023 , it is to plain , and beside remote start ( unreliable!! As you said ) does not do much more
Ours is a leasing, so it doesn't matter that much. The towing hook is already refusing to come out, from day one... that's mounted after market, so does it really count? Our previous car was a BMW X1 and my wife wanted something else... I wouldn't have minded another X1, gladly, the 4wd hybrid seems appealing. The Volvo feels a bit more premium, although the BMW feels a bit more rugged, old fashioned. Something a bit annoying about the automatic is that it doesn't 'crawl'... with a Toyota Corolla, you let the break go and it pulls forward, inching... I guess that has to do with the robotised gearbox.
Tesla has an incredibly intuitive interface/infotainment though. The screens that Volvo uses are fairly poor quality and the software is not up to par with the competition. But you're right, there are a lot of buyers who don't care about the screens/infotainment too.
Yes there is both lighting in all the areas where there is wood or metal accents and ambient led spot lighting through the roof that you a choose color that creates a glow in the cabin. Much more tasteful than a loud Mercedes.
I drive one of those, and they are amazing. I found the review quite entertaining, all the way to the shift... I can never understand the 'fetish' the American market has for automatic shifts - use manual shifts - the car drives faster, and you have way more control over what the car is doing and how it responds.
@@johnsambo9379 Why is it not practical? It gives you much more control over the car, and how it responds, and allows you to actually save fuel, so how is that not practical?
Marginally better isn't any better if you factor in value and price. For what it is XC40 with all its bells and whistles is 12K more than the Audi Q3 top trim. It aint worth the extra 12K.
If you own a #Volvo that already has a broken clutch, hydraulic thrust bearing, clutch plates, flywheel and starter motor after 49000 km, can you speak of an inferior quality? The repair by the Spanish Volvo dealer took 20 days and was almost twice as expensive as in NL. They call it legal fraud.
XC40 have Android Q3 - not. Their are not even close in comfort of equipments management using voice on ANY language. Yes shtupid siri in ANY language.
Apple carplay is not better that native Android on board. Because have 0 functionality in car management and navigation. Additionally siri is to shtupid in understanding people.
The ride of the Volvo and build quality is not as good as the Audi. Volvo the back seats are also Not good quality and sit upright and do not adjust. Not to mention it looks like it was designer by Lego!
It must have been awhile since you drove the Q3. The 18 inch rims on the base Q3 are the way to go. The xc40 is way too stiff and that carpet is unforgivable. I like Volvo as a brand. I really do but the XC40 just isn’t it
