There are a lot of comments on social media that the hike 100 cannot be towed by a Jeep wrangler. If I understand correctly the hike has a dry weight of 3100 and a tongue weight of about 546. Tongue weight and GVWR would exceed the wranglers tow capacity?? In the promotional vid the wrangler seems tow the hike rather easily. How was this able to be accomplished?
@JoseHernandez-rp6vw, Yes there is some confusion about if a Wrangler is able to tow a Hike 100. Here is how we were able accomplish this: The Hike 100 1316FB does have a dry weight of 3100lbs and that includes the tongue weight. This Wrangler 4xe has a towing capacity of 3,500lbs which is more than the dry weight of the camper, resulting in the Wrangler having the capability to tow the Hike 100. However, if the camper is fully loaded up to its GVWR of 4,200lbs then this Wrangler would not be able to tow this camper, due to it exceeding the Wrangler's towing capacity. When this video was created, it was decided to pair the Hike 100 with a Wrangler to show that the Hike 100 is SUV towable and to emphasize the Hike 100's light dry weight of only 3,100lbs. Ultimately, towing the Hike 100 with a Wrangler is possible if the camper is empty, but if it is full of supplies and gear weighing more than a combined total of 3,500lbs the Wrangler is not capable of towing the Hike 100.
Same thing for a 4Runner towing it. I was looking at them. Tongue weight is over payload on all models. Nice trailer but not really made for those vehicles.
@@OutoftheOfficeAdventures Agreed. This is not honest positioning by Winnebago or this dealer. Very few "mid-sized" SUVs can support a tongue weight over 500 lbs. The dealer's contorted math also doesn't factor in the payload and leaves only ~500lbs for the Wrangler's GCWR, with an empty trailer.
Another crazy priced "big brand" "overland" camper that barely qualifies for dirt roads. For $50k you could buy something like a Valiant XTD with their Expedition package. That's 33" tires, full independent articulating suspension, 200w solar, heat, heated shower, and full outdoor kitchen.
This camper has an MSRP of $46,236. However, Markquart RV currently has this floorplan priced at $33K. The Valiant XTD is also another great camper and both the Hike 100 and the Valiant make great off the grid/ overland campers.
