I competed in this sport 30 yrs, been around it 40 yrs. I was standing right behind him when he hit the 452 ball, its the greatest ball I have ever seen up close and personal, and I have seen 1 million balls hit in Longdrive
Memo to event organizers…if you’re trying to create a heavyweight prize fight atmosphere with the contestant introductions…may want to go with a male ring announcer.
I can't wait until someone invents a flat fairway!!! I have heard legends about mythical flat lands... but it's still just crazy rumors at this point...
Years ago I hit my all time best drive. And it was during the Oldsmobile classic tournament in Phoenix. The hole was a 425 yard downhill blind dog leg left. The other guys hit to the flat. So I could swing away. I play MacGregor Tourney persimmon woods with original shafts and grips. The driving club is a 1-1/2. I had no idea where the green was other than over there. So I swung from my socks. And that was when the magic occurred. I did not feel the contact at all. I heard the beautiful explosion and just swung through like butter. I knew it was left over the protruding desert but that was about it. So off we went and easily found the balls in the flat. I was stomping around in the desert and our playing pro went ahead. Then he whistled. My ball was 18” from the cup. The guys ahead were still on the green when my ball slammed into the frog hair, took one hop and rolled right up there. They could not believe it was a tee shot. It was also the first hole we played so we were instantly two shots up on the pack. What a day. We tied for first and lost in a rainy chip off; saving us the cost of paying our own way to Orlando for the finals.
I am writing because your comment has reminded me of one of my longest drives in a tournament I ever had (MacGregor Tommy Armour, persimmon that i still have but retired it, half cord grips and the stiffest shaft you could buy in 1971 hitting an x-out 105 compression Top "Rock"). On the fourth at Diboll, Texas public course. At 11 years old I drove front right 425 par 4. It changed my life. Even though I three putted, I have never forgotten the feeling of not feeling the contact and the look of amazement on my foursome and the group in front of us. Now 53 years later, I still love this game. I don't think I ever swung that hard again but I knew I could. Today with TaylorMade metal head and graphite shaft, I hit it much more consistent and accurately but it never felt as good as that persimmon, swung as hard as I possibly could, hit in the screws and watching it go 100 yards farther than anything I had ever hit. Thank you, for the memory assist. Blessings
Try putting the mic NEXT to the where the ball is struck..so we can HEAR what it sounds like to mash it..... Just copy the PGA...it's not hard. It'll be a MUCH better telecast.
My mom used to hit the ball over 300 yards @ the range wen I wuzza kid . . . She still hits it about 240 and shez 65 yo now . . . Still normally beets me becuz she can chip and putt . . .
Looks like I‘m not too shabby at my personal best of 383 yards on a normal course 😅 it’s pretty satisfying when you only have a 30 yard chip shot left on a Par 4
I'm really interested in the video regarding the kid spoken about by the announcer who used a driver for all shots finishing 1 over after 9 holes! Plz post it
I don't think I could play a round with Zach Johnson with that goofy swing. At least Kyle's swing looks pretty conventional now and he's becoming a better golfer too.
Two years ago I think. The last time Kyle won. He advanced further than most people said I could do. I do not remember exactly but it was somewhere around the quarterfinal he lost. (Different format back then.)
I bet I could hit a ball over them mountains back in the day...in hindsight..man if could go back... if only coach put me in at state if only cost us tbe match.
I did get a gummy hummer at the motel that night and contracting hepatitis was just like having a cold back then. Everyone scared of COVID should definitely invest $20 ina lot lizard without teeth... You'd be surprised what you think worth caring about following a fr'bustr'ated release. Disappointed at times, and I'll be the first to admit that after a freaky search on youplrn, the tabs are cleared before I even pulse the last throbbed ejact is completely drained.
This sport needs some work. It is boring to watch on video maybe better in person? The camera work needs… uh…work. You can hardly tell where the ball is. Also, the first two guys take 12 shots and get 2 fair? The scoring should include some bonus for fair balls or maybe total distance for 3 or 4 balls? I get it’s a total distance contest but it’s kind of boring when most people are counting 1 or 2 of 6.
Can't say I enjoy this. It's a sport of Mulligan's and worse than that I suspect most of these guys will end up with life changing back issues (like me). In fact, the way gymnasiums have become fashionable I suspect in 40 years time there will be an epidemic of skeletal joints issues. The human body never evolved for this kind of repeated punishment and while you can keep soft tissues healthy, joints wear out regardless.
@@vantageszn absolutely. I’d say he is excellent. Still has the “long ball swing “ off the tee, but it works. And then from there on in he is solid. Great short game on putting too.
Just clicked on this after watching grant horvat with a long drive competitor. Interested to know if they are decent at normal golf. Just seems to be whacking as hard as you can and just luck if it goes straight.
I would love to watch, but the camera dudes are trash. Cant see anything. Sometimes, you have the tracer on, but come on team. EDIT: Video/camera quality got better as it went on. Its watchable after the first few match-ups.
Why is every new competition in America immediately an overproduced corporate championship? Disc golf - done. Long drive - done. Next up, going over Niagara Falls in an ashtray - brought to you by Tampax.
Would be infinitely more exiting if they added the distances of all the inbound shots , it would encourage accuracy as well as distance , the best technique is Meti by far , the men's technique's are awful , Holtons is a joke , worlds best ? that's a joke too , make it accuracy too , make it a skill , not hit and hope
Skip the chat , 2x the swings and finally watch a dude acting like a WWF roid bro hit 430 yards..of course he gets there by hitting the sweet spot on the club head but also the hill(!), yes the hill on the right side of the grid. This couldn’t be more boring (to me) but then I never connected either the WWF. Don’t waste 2 hours of your life on this.
worst camera work i have never seen lol just so bad why bother just show tge number and not a struggling camera man,, no tracking ,never saw a single ball especially in 1080p
