Amy Beach (1867 - 1944) was a rarity among American composers at the end of the 19th Century -- a woman. Yet she overcame that "disadvantage" and was included in the "Boston 6" - half a dozen influential composers that set the tone for American music at the time. Her work in the latter half of her life was influenced by God and Christ, and in The Word and Music, we'll hear some of those works.
