I wish you had gone over what you thought was the best preforming system for the best price .Thats what I'd like to see you do. As home builders we need options that are affordable and reliable !

First rule: there is no silver bullet, no single best of anything. Here’s the vid I think you’re looking for though: 5 Methods for Home Ventilation: AirCycler, Inline Fan, Bath Fan, ERV/HRV, & Ventilating Dehumidifier ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_2uuOB5P6eI.html

So good to see the filtration and ERV market ramping up. Should be some really outstanding options over the next few years. Thanks for the reporting! And I know the Zehnder is crazy expensive and overkill for most people, but that's a darn nice system. Wish I could afford one! 😄

I love trade shows. They're the one place you can find everything on the market plus products not yet available. Good walk and talk!

Enjoyed my first episode of this seasons PBS "Home Diagnosis." It was educational, scary but rewarding to watch. Having a fire eradicate the attached condo building to where I used to live, it brought back some bad memories. Look forward to more stimulating episode in the future.

I'm very glad to see that CAR in use. I've actually been idly imagining a system for the NYC apartment building I live in, and have long considered something just like it! These buildings are all ventilated with exhaust grilles in the bathrooms and kitchens, which are each connected to vertical shafts that connect to every other bathroom or kitchen in that line. They were built with manual dampers that were supposedly balanced when the building was built, which was terrible though functional, but over the years they've gotten so far out of whack that the system barely works. Some have removed the dampers or entirely removed the grille (madness!). Some have installed exhaust fans connected to the shaft, which further throws things out of whack. Open windows and such completely change the dynamics, and cannot be managed with static grilles no matter how hard people try. There's no easy way to convert to balanced ventilation, but it would be very easy to swap the static grilles for zone register terminals that connect to the light switches! We'd probably want something like a first stage CAR set to 5-20 CFM to exhaust continuously, but then a second CAR that is set to like 150-200CFM that comes on when the bathroom is in use, which would be important for keeping it from short circuiting. Then, install pressure sensors and controls on the roof fans to maintain a specific pressure in the exhaust shaft, and they will ramp up and down to provide the correct airflow. A DOE study tried something very similar on a multifamily apartment building and found massive energy savings! The ability of the roof fans to throttle down when nobody called for ventilation was what made the difference.

ERV instead of bathroom exhaust fans in Florida remodel. Guys I am trying to do a tightish remodel of a 50yr old Florida block home. I am air sealing everything I can. New AC unit, and ducts with a dedicated dehumidifier with fresh air intake. I was about to order a couple of high end Panasonic bath fans, but I am torn with the idea to skip them and install an ERV. I could pull air at a lower volume from baths and bedrooms and dump back into the AC return. Any input would be great. Thank you

Great videos. I like the deep dives. I have a topic for discussion, perhapsl. In the past, for filtration (MERV 13-16) we've found it simple & elegant to make up a "reverse bottleneck" so we can easily maintain large, deeply pleated filters in the ballpark of 4"x24"x24" so that they create very little static. Have you run into this?

Not sure I’m understanding your jargon, DK. But yes, big thick filters are sexy.
@DK-vx5co

What I was alluding to is, instead of having the small, high-MERV filters "inside" the ERVs, just have a (24x24x4) filter at the intake to greatly minimize the static inside the ERV. @@HomePerformance

Very interesting content. I am having a new sealed home built in San Antonio, TX, what was the resource for home owners to test or find a hvac pro who would help me to ensure that things are working well?

Great summery. The variable ERV boost ventilation box is brillant. I dont hear any energy efficency numbers on the ERVs which is a big deal in most climates and the reason we 8nstall these in the first place since they are callled "energy recovery"
@HomePerformance
@HomePerformance 3 месяца назад
The big deal about these in my world is that they are balanced, as you cannot safely use bath exhaust fans in a very tight home without side effects.
