;-) that is why I chosen iX3, for phisical buttons and 1-8 buttons that I can programm. For me its an advanage. Regarding charge speed you need to be aware that construction of battery is 5 years old. So don't expect todays charge speed from 5 years old system.

Hi Chris, your negative about this car about too many buttons is a positive for me; not everybody wants a Tesla type of tablet that operates everything. Case in point, the new 2024/25 Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 arriving end of 2024 and the Kia EV5 (arriving mid-June 2024) will have shortcut buttons for a few controls.

Its also a safety issue. A touch screen requires you to take your eyes of the road. Physical buttons for commonly used controls like aircon and demister is a smart design decision IMO (although you can also ask Silly Billy to do it for you!)

The car was engineered from the ground up to accommodate different powertrains. The transmission tunnel improves rigidity. No driver sits astride the transmission tunnel. Families with more than two children are rare

Hi Chris, Good review, thanks. Regarding setting speed in a Tesla, you can also Press and hold the stalk for 2 secs, which I think is the easiest thing to do rather than adjusting the speed manually or touching the speed on the screen.

We bought an M Sport Pro in March this year. It's very good, and handles very well, especially for a 2 tonne car. Can get 235 miles in spring on a full charge, and it costs very little to charge at home.

Its interesting that the sound insulation is still good because on this M-Sport version BMW has removed the acoustic glass option which is only on the M-Sport Pro from my understanding. Can you confirm if this car had this option?

This will be my next car in year 2030, when my 2014 bmw i3 bew get retired :D i3 is so cool, hopefully this got even little bit same, but with larger size and 4x better range. The physical buttons is an advantage for me, that's real premium i think!

Pity is has a small info display - the bigger 15" would be better for maps, web content when charging.

Hmmm, Nice rewiew. What is the charging time on your TMY from 10-80%?? It dosent matter what the peak speed is (150 vs 250 in the TMY) it is the total time from 10-80%……I dont think the real diff is verelis big, max 5 min

5 Year warranty! Wish we had that in the UK, I will stick with Kia until they offer that here

I have a test drive on a Q8 E-tron next Saterday but budget-wise the choice is going to come down to a iX3 with all the available options and an E-tron with no options. This model iX3 is being replaced next year by another one (very ugly, first impression) so I can hopefully get a nice deal for the current iX3. I think I will go for the BMW.. thanks for the review.

Too big for my liking. I actually prefer sedans but find the Model 3 too low for my taste. I must try the BYD Seal - to that's a great looking car.

NO! 😢 Get away from free charging! On a trip I've been blocked by expensive ev's sitting at chargers for too long (and wasting hours of their lives) to get to 100% because they are ENTITLED to free charging, even though they live around the corner 😮 It would be a better incentive to offer free supply and installation of a home charger.

Free charging is an issue, but fixed by idle fees. @ChargeFox and @EVie - we need idle fees! $1 a minute would be great. TIA

The What Car long term test found this car only had a 210 mile range, which is rubbish. My 2023 X3 MSport diesel can do over 640 miles on a single tank. How can you convince the likes of me to move to an EV with its pitiful range. This car also costs £10k more then mine, its a joke!

It's an issue if you regularly do over 200 miles in a stint. Not many do and for those that don't, it's a great car. Ours does 235-240mi on a charge. On the plus side, your 640mi range will cost about £90. For that I can do over 3500 miles from a home charger

It’s a joke to you because of your set of parameters, yet BMW sell plenty of these. Where I live I have it as a corporate car, EV compulsory. No hybrid, diesel, gasoline, because of regulations. So then, what do you throw at the company configurator? Merc EV’s aren’t there yet and odd looking, Audi has a new Q6 that’s good but you can only order it as of now, rest of VAG no thanks, every man and his dog drives a Tesla so not very original. Then comes this, an X3, good handling, normal looking, no hassle, I don’t regret my choice. Would I buy one as a private car? Well I don’t know as I have a company one… these things are selling very well and I have yet to meet someone who is disatisfied with it. Just saying.

One pedal driving is energy inefficient due to the losses getting it down and back to speed. Dangerous too, as you lose muscle memory of using the brake

Like an indicator stalk on the left vs right, agreed - muscle memory is important and maybe (?) a safety thing, but do you really forget how to brake? I still use the brake pedal from time to time, and my performance of doing it, hasn't been affected.

@@chrisvanderstock Much safer to have regen blending on the brake pedal. There are old pilots and bold pilots but no old bold pilots. As there are those that have done wheels up landings and those that have yet to
