I’m 77 years old as of April 15 and have 4 bikes. A 2000 BMW R 1150 GS , a 2001 BMW K 1200 RS , 2001 BMW S 1000 R , which I’m crazy about and lastly a 2005 Suzuki Hayabusa . Age is just a number and I have been riding 62 years.
Like you I've been riding for many years.... 45 in fact. I have owned dozens of bikes and lived & ridden in 17 different countries around the world. AGE is indeed.... Just a number.
Well done! Yes, those 1,5 roads can be tricky. 2 weeks ago I meet a young dude in a hugh Audi. He did some fantasy speeds in that corner. A left corner for me, so looking into his headlights I decided to go on the edge as much as I could. Passed the speedfreak, but came to close to the roadedge and the wheels went into the soft side and I was all of a sudden sitting in the ditch. So I'm glad I can sit here today with my "double" knee and watch your films! So all you guy's out there, you might be a skilled rider who can handle both bike and road...but you might encounter a young piebrain in dads fast car. Take care!
My friend upgraded from a S1000R to. M1000R last year. He just turned 72. AND he will leave pretty much anyone whos dumb enough to try in the dust in the twisties! Age is just a number, i hope i’ll be like my friend when i’m 72
Yeah, Scott, Another piece of Art from BMW, no doubts about it whatsoever! I hope to endure, reaching Seventy’s with enough stamina and be able to take pleasure on a bike like this choosing to ride it through the so called golden years…even if it’s just to ride it on a short road ride, contemplating its beauty and majestic performance while enjoying a nice drink on a sunny esplanade…Track days, I’m already not so excited for it today, at 59 years old. But it’s as you say to each, their own 👌🏻
Did you consider the m1000 xr? How does the RS compare? Getting the full Akra? How different is the RS from the pikes peak? Would that panigale engine be able to handle long distances?
No hard luggage, manual rear pre load and top end you can't use on the street I bought the standard gravity blue S1000XR and am very happy with more money in the checking acount
Same people buy the standard v4 but some people out there prefer more performance like v4 RS , thats why the m1000xr come out, different ppl different taste...some people prefer soft luggage including me
nice - i think a lot of folks forget that there is a big difference between horsepower and displacement though. I love the XR, but that seat really lets it down.
Where we need these grazy fast bikes? I have mt09 sp year 2022. I think it is fast enough. It rips my arms! We have max speedlimit 120km/h. I liked honda vt750 in my 20s, now soon 40. Btw, i really like your detailed long videos, like pro! Most friendly hellos from Finland to you👌
Good Morning Scott. Keep your old introduction background song that I came to love😂 That introduction song has become a flagship of your channel my friend. Great looking bike but I don`t have the big bucks available for this awesome machine...hehehe...😃 God bless🙏 and stay safe bro. Cheers!!!👍💪🤛
Very nice were certainly spoiled for choice as motorcyclists, what an awesome machine BMW thanks for the review Scott great job as always PS do you still have the RT?
Thanks for the awesome review. Is the seat more comfortable than old S1000xr seat? I felt bmw should have included a side and top pannier as an option. That would make it the ultimate sport touring bike.
Even though I typically had/ rode BMW Boxers, the in-line 4 S1000XR was one of my favorite do-it-all motorcycles (mine was the first generation). For "me" its "ONLY" downside was that it beckoned to be ridden fast all the time and at 69 years old I sold it to get something more laid back to better suit my age/ less need for speed.
Well done review about an „interersting“ bike. Interesting, because I ask myself who needs/ wants such a bomb: Too high (for racing), too fast, too expensive (for the vibrations/ motor noise and lack of comfort), no fish, no meat.
I can picture riding this up and down Grimmel Pass or something. Would be amazing! There’s really no rhyme or reason for these bikes as they are so powerful, and I think that’s why BMW makes them.
If it had hard luggage, i would have ordered one. I have about 100 000 kms in 4 years on my s1000xr, in daily year round commute, Brussels and Antwerp trafic
I would humbly say, have you tried a piped and mapped current-gen Tuono V4? My 2023 was only $14,500, and add another $1300 for an Akrapovic pipe and custom remap, and aside from the very top end, I bet my bike would feel more powerful than the M1000XR everywhere, and sound better doing it. Now runs smooth as glass also. And not only does my bike look fantastic, it’s at least $10,000 less than this!
Wow Scott, you don’t get to test ride those too often. Was it a used one or a brand new demonstrator? Either way, a truly beautiful bike with a racing pedigree. You’re so lucky to have experienced this. Thanks to your regular dealer 👌🤙
Yea, this was a demo bike that the dealer just got, had like 200km on it, so they made me promise not to rev it past 8k RPM. And they usually make the person taking out this bike put down a 1,500 euro (cash or credit card) deposit, in case something goes wrong. But they know me and what I'm doing it for, video, and I've never crashed one of their bikes, so it's my reputation with them...so I get to take these bikes out, no questions asked 👍👍😊
Beautiful bike, beautiful countryside - it would be very easy to get distracted by the roadside brooks and meadows.🙂 I'm guessing you were far from the Autobahn .... did you mention buffeting at high speed?
i feel like this and the Pikes Peak answer a question no one was asking. Sure, I get that power while touring is a given, not arguing against that at all. I'm starting to think this iteration of sport tourers is a means to justify the existence of the higher tuned engines against the tightening emissions regs
I was riding such 1-1,5-lane roads in the Swiss Jura and Elsass yesterday. Lots of dirt on the roads, hidden corners... a 20hp bike would have been enough 😂
Lovely bike, great review. However, a major factor with most road bikes above 750 cc (6even 00 cc?) is that their road performance is pretty much the same. I ride a BMWR1250R and its acceleration is even faster up to 100 km/h (acceleration times), and it is superb in the twisties (my style of riding), But differences of 0.1, 0.2 seconds are irrelevant. This bike, I am sure would leave my bike standing on a track, but then I ride roads, not a track, and there are speed limits. Still a great bike.
I have to admit I like the setup but not willing to spend that high. I noticed the bike has RS11 tires. These are basically track tires for the street. My 1290r came with S22 but I’ve been also running the RS11. The bike just turns better with them.
Can you try to get the XR with the M package and luggage and do a review. I just move to Germany and I’m thinking that be the perfect bike or maybe the new GS.
In India, Ducati Streetfighter V4 S is costing 34 lakhs on road ( Bangalore ), where as the BMW M1000 XR is costing 45 lakhs. Government tax system is absurd
I can't believe with all that carbon it doesn't come with a radiator and oil cooler guard as standard 7:09. If I was buying one of these I would want that fitted before I left the showroom.
Very nice bike. Honestly I demoed the 2023 XR. it has about 170hp amazing power/acceleration/torque and amazing brakes. Issues: A little tall. I am 5"10 and I am not flat footed. Heat: engine produces too much heat and rider is not well shielded from it. seat had a ball shape I think 2024 they may removed it. Exhaust sound I don't like. It's not loud but it sounds weirdly metalic. and a bit of vibration at high rpm. But it's expensive compared to Japanese bikes. a 22k+ for a motorcycle come on. it's just a motorcycle not a toyota corolla lol Bikes are fun toys. 22k+ for a toy! come on!
Question, when you were comparing the BMW with the Ducati V4's, why do they all have the same side profile and look very similar? It might be fast but it is also ugly and doesn't look like a BMW in my mind.
The triumph tiger sport 1050 is easily the more realistic bike in that category It matters not that the bmw has more power and it’s too big physically and stupid price
Coming from a 701 supermoto looking for more power , does that xtra that 200 lbs affect corner entry speed? Had a GS behind me yesterday that was fast but on those corners i pulled so far ahead of him . What say ye?
Weight is everything, especially in a corner. This is also why supermoto's are so much fun, light with lots and lots of grip...hard to beat. What about Ducati's new supermoto? 698 (very light) or for more power 950 but with that power comes weight...
It's too bad BMW hasn't figured out how to dampen the vibration. Every review mentions the vibes and how that would detract from using it for touring. I really would consider it provided the vibes would be tamed so you could have a performance tourer. So far the Pikes Peak wins.
As a BMW fanboy, I feel ashamed a bit that there is no huge improvements on technology in compairson to hondas Automatic DCT and eClutch technologies...
@@ulaskvlcm easy, it's about the principle of the engine: there is a two-cylinder paralel engine in the KTM (LC8 line) and these usually have inherently higher torque than an in-line four-cylinder engine of roughly the same displacement :-)
ride angle looks good on camera with that power -- nice to know you can if you want ..... // never done an M3 bike did the m3 car - that was a bit ferocious and I drove porsches - very sensitive road feeling like felt everything ... no doubt bike similar ....... nice vid .. tick // ....... worse bike drove CP 250cc lambretta -- fastest death trap ever built in europe ... italians are mad ... -------- unless dry perfect roads ..... never again .... //
The entire BM lineup is now garbage since they adopted the EU5 emissions standards. Sure it's fast, but feels boring. If I need to rip out the exhaust, do a complete retune and increase throttle response from factory to make it even slightly enjoyable, I'm not buying it.
Too bad that BMW was cheap in how they made the transmissions for this bike.. Very UN BMW like.. but yet, here we are. Bad clutches and cracking cases.. resulting in wheel drop because the trans case is part of the frame.
