I enjoyed _The Fall Guy._ It reminded me of Jackie Chan stunt movies of the late '90s early 00s. I think they must not have advertised it right. I certainly didn't like either poster.
@@AverageJoe483 Not exactly. Dune and Deadpool are proof that people still want classic Hollywood, but only for the TRULY biggest movies of the year. I think Hollywood will have to dramatically shrink down it's volume to survive, or at least tightens the budgets. Otherwise, 75% of their movies are likely to fail, no matter how good the reviews are.
@@thauen I had the same experience while watching challengers a week or so ago. Group of people walk in 30 min into the movie with their light on smh so distracting theatre etiquette is a lost art lol
Grace ur movie theater experiences is WILD!! I'm in texas and haven't experienced none of the stuff you're talking about. The theaters we go to are clean, quiet and nice
I’ve been going to the cinema in the UK for over 25 years and I’ve only ever had one disruptive experience and it wasn’t even that bad. It was during Resident Evil Extinction. Some guy stood up, shouted “This movie sucks!” and walked out. 😂
I lived in Germany and the UK, and I never had any bad disruptions either. Just small things like people talking too loud, but not for the whole of the movie. And here in Germany, people also react to being shushed by stopping to talk, so we have a way to stop that if it happens.
Rotten Tomatoes is honestly broken dude, Cinemascore is the actual real score that matters, until they purge how many terrible critics are in the list its not the real score anymore.
That’s not the reason lol You don’t know the quality of the movie until you see it. The quality of films that are coming out now are not that different from 2018 or 2019. Audiences just aren’t attending the movies like they did pre COVID thanks to streaming. Streaming and digital purchasing is dramatically impacting every industry. Movie industry is just finally experiencing what the music industry experienced in the wake of Spotify and Apple Music. I myself only been to the theaters twice this year vs 2016-2019 At this point I would have at least Been 5 times by now, it’s just nothing I’m eager to see yet.
i can tell you this grace, if i wasn’t single i wouldn’t be at the theater every week or every other week. prices are are so ridiculous, i was talking to a co-worker who went to the movies with his wife and three kids and told me he almost coughed up $200 bucks for tickets and snacks and like you said not even including gas 🥴. to top it off half of them didn’t even like the movie and was telling me he won’t be at the movies again for awhile especially since digital releases don’t take that long anymore. prices are just insane
I was always skeptical of IF’s opening having a 4 in front of it, but the fact that it opened to $35 million is actually not a bad result. Question now is can it have legs or will Garfield kneecap it next week
I don't know why "movie lovers" go after 6pm to the theater. You should know better by now. Lol Choose Matinee. 👌🏾 preferably 9am-2pm. Better audience experience everytime. Why? No Teenagers, no families, no rambunctious crowds.
But you also miss out on the electric energy and fun atmosphere of everybody seeing a blockbuster together. I just go more than once if it's worth it, and the crowds die down after the first week or two.
I go on the second or third week of release night time showings. Usually the rambunctious crowds start to mildly thin out by then while still keeping the general excitement of watching a movie with a crowd. Unless it's a mega blockbuster like Avengers Endgame where the crazy crowds don't begin to thin down at least until a month or so later...
@@packedentertainment2866 If you can't see the cultural impact Barbie had on 2023 then that's a you problem - it was the biggest movie of the year, hands down and Ryan's Ken become a phenomenon - but The Fall Guy was badly advertised and looked very streaming-esque so didn't perform to expectations
@@manantial773 Well the OP didn't say the waiters were causing the noise or that they expected silence LOL It's simply people being inconsiderate. And the iPic costs way too much to deal with that. That's the point.
Yes be we also dont talk about unsung hero with a budget of 6 million that made back its money cause God forbid we give Christian type movies any press.
I frequent the imax at the grove LA and let me tell you, the worst experience every time. So many teenagers on their phones, jumping over seats, walking in and out of the theater during the film, the loudest and most disruptive theater audience. Every. Single. time. I miss the Arclight on sunset :(
My cinema experience in Germany is 99% good. People arrive early, get their food and drinks before / during the Trailers… then sit and watch the movie. When the movie starts the talking stops. Oh and phones are off. 😉
@@packedentertainment2866 Just stating my opinion as others may feel the same way. Don't like it see the movie again in my place otherwise I could care less
@@packedentertainment2866 nope, if it's a movie people really, really want to see they will go to the big screen.... remember top gun and Barbie. But if it's a movie that they can take it or leave it, they will watch it at home during their free time.
@kishenkoolskills90 I wasn't talking about Dunn in particular...but that's a movie most people other than the hardcore fans would wait and see it when they get time,.. and if it's not a the cinema after 45 days they will watch it online. .....but let's be honest, Dunn is a slow movie and is not far everyone.
I feel bad for cities who don’t have an Alamo drafthouse in their area. I’ve NEVER had any of these bad experiences and I’m at the theatre every weekend.
Are they that good? I have an IMAX in an overwhelmingly White area near me... so, I never have any bad experiences but I only go to see big IMAX worthy movies at the theater.
@@nationalsocialism3504hold up … are you saying you don’t have any bad experiences because it’s filled with white people? That’s an incredibly questionable & disgusting thing to say.
@@packedentertainment2866 Its okay to realize their are different cultural values, in black community there is a difference which may or may not be bad.
@BussinandDiscussin they like talking, being disruptive, & leaving trash everywhere. That's their culture and obviously what makes them feel most comfortable... I'm White so my culture is to be civilized & being civilized is what I find comfortable.
It's streaming. I sat through 8hrs of Baby Reindeer this weekend. I sat through all of Clarkson's Farm the week before, and Shogun the week before that. So much good stuff, so much time spent on my butt - when I go out I've got to move about. Sorry cinema, you just don't feel like an event anymore.
They should've released IF in April so that it wouldn't have to go up against Garfield immediately.? I feel like those projections might be a bit low for that film since Furiosa seems to more niche appeal.
I agree and disagree with you Grace and you mentioned Dune Part 2 as a must see theater experience but again you forgot to mention how Godzilla x Kong was also a must see theater experience with it's larger than life Titan battles. That movie went on to earn $80 plus million at the box office. To me it depends on the types of movies that are playing.
Or go to the latest showing during the week. Because of work, if I want to see a movie, I go to the 11pm showing. It should be noted this doesn't work for all movies. I went to see No Way Home that Saturday morning and it was packed.
if only everyone could... morning showtimes aren't available everywhere or everyday... hell, locally, movies don't even start until around 3 pm most of the time
Even if I could go to more early screenings-and I would like to-there are those of us who have to work... I agree that earliest showing on the weekend can be good 👍
Watched Garfield here in Brazil with my daughter, I was ready to keep my headphones and listen to some podcast during the movie, but I was surprised, she loved and I was entertained during all movies, she even discovered some Garfield shows on Netflix and watched a lot at home
No secret. 2nd movie bump, as Dawn raised the stakes after Rise was well-received. Also, Summer 2014 was weird, with Dawn being the sole event movie of July. War dropped off from Dawn because it looked like a reprise of Dawn.
I think it’s simple, the trailer had an ape on horseback wielding two machine guns. It was iconic and is still the image most people think of when they think of that whole trilogy. War had a boring prison escape storyline in comparison.
@@-AtomsPhere- thats true, I think after these 2 films its clear the franchise needs to go back to apes vs humans conflict & introduce another koba/ proximus type character to be present throughout
Building on the momentum of the first film, was a great film loved by critics and audiences, had legs cos no big competition for a month til the first GOTG
I feel Dawn did such great business because of the goodwill from Rise. Rise told such a heartfelt tragic origin story for Ceaser you could do nothing but feel happy after he finally escaped and started his clan. I think people forget how good Rise was amongst the more critically acclaimed Dawn and War. Rise told a much simpler story that everyone could get behind thus winning new fans.
Are you following the meme stock wars? Very entertaining push and pull over keeping the theaters in business (that's just one portion). So far, the theaters are still in the game. So, we'll see.
As an example of why premium screens and better movie theaters are needed. When looking at options for cities to move too, one of my criteria to look at was if there was something like an Alamo Drafthouse or not.
I think that Hollywood and theaters need to re-examine the theatrical experience. Frankly whoever sets these projections. What are these based on anyway.
I maybe see a movie like 1x or 2x a year in theater. It has to be something that I just can't wait for. Most things these days I can feel like I can wait for. A few months just aint that bad when you've got a surplus of content to catch up on.
You’d be surprised how badly behaved viewers in L.A. are, too. I attended the Madame Web red carpet screening, which you think would be the one place audience members would be on their best behavior, but the two women next to me were as bad as any toddler. They were on Instagram posting their red carpet photos for most of the movie and the lady next to me answered a FaceTime call during the final battle and showed the screen to whoever she was talking to. The teenagers sitting in front of me were much better behaved. It was insane!
I so agree when you said that the industry doesn't know how the rest of the country (or world) deals with movie theatres - of course their matinees in LA will have well behaved people, but try going to a movie theatre in Toronto on a busy week night - bright phone screens on, talking during the movie, laughing at inappropriate times, etc! Of course it doesn't happen all the time, but the fact that many people have these horror stories shows that this is a problem. It's why I'm a bit annoyed when some people in the industry kind of guilt trip audiences to watch in theatres cus it's the best way to view films and support the industry - yes, that's true and the big screen itself can be worth it, but try going with irritating and selfish strangers! That's why I get anxious when I DO book tickets cus you never know who will be at your screening. I'd love to support films in theatres more, but it's a risk now. I can't always go to weekday matinees with better behaved people due to my work schedule.
is it really something to celebrate if a movie opens at $35 mill, tbh hollywood has fallen off and this summer is the weakest we have had in a LONG time
Is anyone else way more hyped for House of the Dragon than Deadpool? I feel like i got my X-MEN fix sufficiently scratched by X-MEN 97, and now I’m ready to travel back into WESTEROS!
My Dune 2 nightmare story is that I went to the early IMAX sneak preview showing and my entire row reeked of weed for the whole movie because of someone in front of me. Saw him hitting his dab pen multiple times during the movie which people say are "odorless." That was the only major annoyance but I didn't come to an early IMAX showing to have to smell weed the whole movie because potheads dont think it's as socially taboo as smoking cigarettes indoors is. Columbia Maryland btw.
I dunno... I've been going less and less to the thearter... I'll catch these at home... Deadpool would get me out but if i dont get a ticket opening night/week, I might skip that as well...
@@packedentertainment2866 yes, good point... but theaters are not innocent in all of this. I still go to movie theaters, but to support "the movies," not the theaters themselves.
Grace I’m at canne right now. Been having the best time of my life. I met Ron Howard, and Chris hemsworth and woody Harrison. And went to the red carpet of the new Nick cage movie
At 22 I managed one of the biggest nightclubs in New York City.. a club called sound factory.. One of the reasons I got promoted so fast was my ability to market the club and make the customer experience so good that they had to come back and bring friends. I tell you, if I ran a movie theater there would be people coming to the movie theater for the movie theater more than the movie. I say that to say, these movie theater owners put no imagination into their space. I would link up with local restaurants and businesses to have free samples, people in costumes, free giveaways, celebrity appearances, so many things that people would come to the theater for the theater and the movie would be the bonus
Grace are you serious? Everyone in Los Angeles is not interested in the film when they go to the theater. We have horrific viewing experiences over here too. I’ve been to several parts of LA and can say that the experiences are really bad all over. The amc at universal studios has gone down and is a post apocalyptic hell now
Cannot wait for the new Movie Math as Furiosa is coming in so low from projections! I hope Grace mentions these initial numbers vs what actually happened to give perspective!
I try and go to the theater about once a week or every 2 weeks. I will always enjoy the theater experience. Luckily ive had pretty well behaved people in my screenings. Something about going to the theater, getting my icee and popcorn is still magical
Last year, when I went to go see the Flash (mind u this was in an Imax theater) a man right next to me was on his phone. Same thing happened when I went to go see the Marvels (which was even worse because the theater right next to me was blaring the Eras Tour movie). Now I won't go see a movie on opening day cause it's too crowded.
I finally got to see PotA on Friday and was really pleased that I enjoyed it! The previous trilogy is one of my all time favourite trilogies but this was the first film I got to see in cinemas. Really hope we get more sequels
During a screening of dune 2, my friend and i walked in late really confused. We then snuck into another screening of dune two that was playing 30 minutes later that had no one there. Little dud we know other people had came in and also thought they were alone. At one point someone had a full phone call towards the end of the movie. They thought they truly were alone 😭
Everyone dropped their Furiosa review this past week so I thought Furiosa was the movie of the week, this weekend! I don't think Furiosa is gonna do good only because I thought Furiosa came out this weekend since everyone dropped their review for Furiosa like a week ago ish and thought it came out this weekend. I was excited for Furiosa this weekend, but, only IF opened. This week the big movie that came out was The Strangers part 1 that I did go see. Now next week to me seems like Furiosa would have been out already for its second weekend. Did Furiosa come out last week all over the world except for the USA, and the USA is getting the movie a week late? I don't get it. It's giving Fall Guy, the way, where, Furiosa came out weeks ago already and now it was the movie of the week last week, if you didn't see Furiosa last week on opening weekend, I guess I might as well wait to see it on streaming. That's sad how yall made me think that Furiosa was coming out this past Friday thrusday, and not this coming thrusday friday. Lol 😭😭
I am glad most audiences here in Sweden are (mostly, not always) well behaved and shut up at the cinema. That said, TV screens at home are so big and good nowadays I seldom goes to a cinema. I watch most movies at home. The last one I watched in a theatre was Dune 2. I think the next one is Furiosa.
Your first mistake was going to a theater with in-screening dining service. There is no way for that to not be disruptive. I went to an Alamo Draft House once. Never again.
I agree. It should be "dinner and a movie" NOT "dinner at the movie"... don't see how Alamo can be considered such a bastion of cinema, when they propagate such a profound distraction to cinema.
I’ve never had that kind of bad experience in a cinema here in Sydney. I feel those who still go to the cinema here are pretty respectful. But - there are definitely fewer people seeing movies in the cinema.
By the way, I saw Dune 2 on a premium screen in the theater (mid-week matinee) and had a great experience. I will do the same for Deadpool/Wolverine. That's about it for in-theater for me.
