Gosh it’s been MANY years since I’ve been to Breyerfest!! I went to the 5th Breyerfest way back when! I can imagine it’s changed a lot! I used to hang with all the original greats, including Carol Williams who was 1 of the founders of the hobby, along with Marnie Walerus ( she died many years ago now). D’Arry Frank was always in attendance, and so many others over the years. Got tired of the politics, and pettiness…, so I stopped. But they were good times, and so wonderful to see the hobby progress from the early shows where we used yarn for halters and bridles, and felt for saddles! Carol Williams was the one who really propelled the hobby into what’s it’s become today. The woman is a genius. She created the first saddle kits and it exploded from there! She’s also the first to remake Breyer bodies. Back then we used blow torches and car putty ( carbony ( sp) it was called) to reposition and then rebuild our models. Painting was all done by hand for years before people started using airbrushes. CAROL WILLIAMS was ALWAYS ahead of her time, and bringing out things that made people go WOW! Today’s it is just amazing to see the talent out there! So much of the work is fabulous!! Glad you had a great time! Someone needs to have a special presentation at Breyerfest one year, where Carol is acknowledged for her pioneering of the hobby, and her accomplishments in its continued growth. She deserves that. Look her up, and learn about the woman was got it all started! She’s a very talented person, and always ahead of everyone with new ideas for the hobby! She was also the first to start doing porcelain, and ceramic horses. Thanks for showing all your pretty ponies!!
