The DelGrosso Family was honored to receive the 2024 Central PA Community Foundation Philanthropy Award.
The DelGrosso Family’s commitment to giving began with its founders, Ferdinand and Mafalda DelGrosso. Despite their humble beginnings, they were generous beyond their means. Their spirit of helping individuals and organizations in need that began 77 years ago lives on with the family’s second and third generation.
This philanthropy takes many forms-from hundreds of small contributions per year through free park passes, sauce donations, spaghetti dinners, hoagie sale proceeds and cash-to larger endeavors. Regardless of the scale of support, the people and organizations identified for assistance typically fall within four key categories: Faith; Family; Health; and Education & The Arts.
Examples include:
Faith:
o Decades-long financial and food product support to the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen and various food pantries
o The Altoona-Johnstown Diocese
o Collaboration with Franco & Dana Harris to support the Little Sisters of the Poor
Family:
o Countless donations to individuals and organizations to support families in need
o Financial support for local organizations that promote community and economic growth, such as Northern Blair County Recreational Center, the ABCD Corporation, and Children’s Miracle Network
Health:
o Fighting Cancer-and breast cancer in particular, as a disease that has affected numerous members of the family. Support includes organizations such as Coaches vs. Cancer, The American Cancer Society, Girls Night Out, and Pink Power
o The UPMC Altoona Foundation
Education & The Arts:
o Support of numerous area elementary and secondary schools
o Decades-long support of WPSU Public Broadcasting for educational programming
o Corporate underwriting the PBS Documentary Series, The Italian Americans
o Funding of performing arts productions for the Church in the Middle of the Block Productions and the Altoona Symphony
