Bloody hell these bot comments and the profile pictures are out of control lol Edit: And now having watched the video I would love to see the Ram tested and maybe a towing test between the two! Great video as always Paul!
Please can you do an actual tow test. A 4T caravan or boat would be great!! You’re the only person who won’t bullshit!! Comparing the Ram coils springs would be good. Full payload with towing would be an actual real life test!!! 😊
4T is not a lot for a class 2B pickup. That would be about 3.25T below the conventional tow rating of the crew cab diesel. Gooseneck adds another 1225KG.
Definitely would love to see this against the RAM 2500. And would love to see what you think between the 2. Also would love to get your feedback on top spec Ram 1500, Silverado 1500 and F150.
I own the 1500 version of this as well as a f250, the capability these vehicles offer our farming business is supreme no duelcab ute comes close. Only gripe with the chevy is they use waxed chassis ,its a black wax coating that attracts thick dust and requires maintenance to address surface rust in areas where the coating has been depleted. Can't use lanolin or petroleum based oils on it as it softens the factory coating. We put it over a hoist every 12 months and clean and re-coat with cosmoline and black oxide which is the closest product to the factory coating..
5th comment, ahead of the 4 bots 🤣🤣🤣 I don't think I've ever seen a ute/truck this size in Australia actually doing what it's intended for, and I'm in WA!
Yes, please do a tow test. Can you do one with the same trailer as the other big tow tests you've done and then another tow test with a 4.5T trailer? It can be the same video, that's fine. It would be good to compare it to some of the big wagons that can tow 3.5T. Cheers.
A towing test. Yes please, but maybe at 3.5 tonnes, not loaded to the absolute Max as not many people will do that, also when towing, instead of driving like its a race, drive just like a normal user would and see how it goes. Watching test videos where the vehicle is flooded for an hour, then towels Max load at wide open throttle and tester says, "gee it likes a drink". Real world tests please
@@bertskidmore5506 If u r referring to Tundra. 300 vehicles r currently with a specially selected group of people. These people have the Tundra on a special lease deal from Toyota. They have to report their thoughts etc on the vehicle They don’t get to keep the vehicle These Tundra r not necessarily how the final production vehicles will be. If all goes well, and if Toyota r happy etc, the Tundra will officially go ahead. Final decision from Toyota will b made by late 2024. Tundra will then b available to the public, next year. Unlikely Toyota will give any Tundra to motoring journalists etc, until at least, late this year
Honestly I would love to drive one everyday as have used them in ski resorts in Canada they are amazing to drive climb mountains and hwy, as long as you can park not at shopping centre or 1980 spec car park sizing the are perfect. Fuel economy for the size is pretty good, an haul like nothing there. But with the price of a house deposit I’ll keep dreaming for now
We own 2022 model & tow 4 tonne caravan (ATM 4.4t), absolutely brilliant especially with the engine braking & towing mode features. Comparison to the RAM & tow review (with a substantial caravan/trailer) would be good to see
Great vid, would love to see a tow test 4.5 tonne van and tonne payload utilising the truck licence. Side by side with the Ram would be sick. Keep the vids coming!
I’m petitioning Main Roads to build bigger roads so we can all own one! Love the big truck but our shitty government won’t build roads to suit and the counsels don’t get me started the car parks are way to small for my RAM🥲
Keep in mind that we have pickup trucks that are 14" wider than this in the US (I daily drive one - a little over 22' long x 8 foot wide). Your roads are fine. Also, avoid car parks especially multi-level. There is always somewhere to park, it just might not be as convenient. If you have to take a full space plus a foot or two behind then so be it.
Yup, Because the yanks don't use amber indicators at the rear they chuck the indicators in the factory reverse light spot and put in some auxilarly reverse lights to get through Aus compliance.
Thx for the review. We’re in the market for a HD style truck to be a towing tourer, be it ram or Chevy, with a possible Tundra depending on weight figures once released. Would love to see a tow test for the Chevy at 4t+. Would be great if you could manage that. You mention that you could only Tow 3.5t on NB1, and needed NB2 for above 3.5t are you sure about that?
Thx mate, thought as much, we’re thinking of starting at NB1 and see how we go. Might kick it to NB2 if we decide on a canopy. But a bit worried about the LR license and vehicle requirements. Very interested in a towing review, as I’ve heard the Chevy needs a suspension upgrade when towing heavy as it apparently suffers from pretty bad porpoising
Toyo doesn't compete in the HD truck segment. The Tundra competes with the lighter duty F150, Ram 1500, GM 1500. All of these are class 2A trucks. HDs start at class 2B.
The big issue is towing 3.5t or more is the payload at just over 700 kg is very restrictive. Remember if your van is 2.5t then you have to deduct about 250kg from your payload. 500 kg mean 2 people and not much weight in the tray, or 4 people and almost no further weight can be carried. Getting the car registered as nb2 is a lot cheaper than retro fitting it to that. So my advice is in almost all cases if you are towing 2.5 tonnes plus buy it as nb2 speced and you won’t have to worry about your weights again.
I will assume you are joking. If not I’ll assume you are a bully with nothing better to do than intimidate other drivers. Let’s hope it was a joke. I have a 4WD but my wife and I drive our Kia Picanto (second car) a lot and there are far too many menaces on the road who do what you have suggested - tailgate, threaten, bully and intimidate and it’s not only unsafe it’s also illegal. If people have such small 🍆 and 🎾🎾 that they need to do this - they deserve their licence taken from them and never allowed to drive again. Sorry - but I’m very passionate about road bullies - generally Ute driving Australian males.
I’ve own a 2023 2500 and it got 21L/100km at 9T driving from Melbourne to Hervey Bay and not towing Hervey Bay 9.2L/100kms then return 17.2L/100kms at 7.7T
9,000 kg is above the tow rating for a crew cab 2500. The GM 2500HD diesel tops out at 8,480kg on a bed mounted hitch. At 20,000 lbs I would want a 3500.
@@__PJ__ Walkinshaw began converting Silverado 2500 to RHD, back in 2018. And these Silverado were sold via HSV dealers at this time… GMSV did not yet exist. Walkinshaw have been converting Ram since 2013… Whichever way u slice / dice it etc, various company names r involved etc. But, the name on the factories is Walkinshaw. They should be clearly given acknowledgment for what they do, for various manufacturers etc Walkinshaw is the name that the general public relate to. Poor form of Paul not to acknowledge and mention Walkinshaw’s role in the remanufacture of Silverado to RHD, in Melbourne
In 2018, Walkinshaw opened a large brand new facility in Clayton South. Named “ Walkinshaw Park “ Not far from the original HSV premises in Clayton. At this facility they converted both Ram and Silverado. In late 2022, all Silverado conversion moved to a brand new facility that Walkinshaw built at Dandenong.
@@StephenFogarty2023 Mate I agree, I own a HSV ( and have owned 10+ V8 Holden's in the past ) and they need their flag flown as they are still doing good for the Aussie car industry !!!
9:59 This is not a shot at you Paul, but to everyone using a ute or trailer please secure your load properly. I got knocked off my bike and ran over at 100kph on the Monash from a sheet of mdf and the driver had no idea or just didn't bother to stop.
Just one point, you mentioned things flying around in the tray and coming out and annoying other drivers. Pretty sure it’s illegal to drive with an unsecured load… at least in QLD 🤷♂️
Paul - I'd really love if you could not refer these to being "converted" to RHD. It's not like the old days where they move the steering wheel over to the other side. The cars are re-engineered to the point of almost re-manufactured.Also, I'd really love companys like yours to seriously push the biog car builders to start making these factory RHD. They keep saying there is no market for them yet we seem to keep proviing there is but still we are gettting shafted on prices. Evene if you could just make comment in your videos on these stating to the companys that they need tp ull their fingers out and do RHD factory runs also.
All depends on what you are doing with it. It is actually not large enough to do what I need a pickup to do. My last pickup was a Ram 2500 diesel and I could not use my flatbed gooseneck trailer at anywhere close to its 26,000lb capacity. That meant multiple trips for smaller equipment and not being able to move larger equipment. The 2500s are very practical for trailers in the 3500 to 6500kg range, or lighter trailers with a lot of windage. There is a reason that we consider the 2500s to be the first class of pickup truck for real towing here in North America. That being said, I have seen quite a few 2500s and 3500 single rear wheels blown over on their side when hauling too big a trailer across the Great Plains.
The conventional tow rating on this in the US is 16,000 lbs/7,250 kg. Gooseneck/fifth wheel tow rating is 18,700 lbs/8,480 kg. You wouldn't even notice a trailer that only weighed as much as the maximum towing capacity on a midsize. We don't really even consider the F150/Ram 1500/GM 1500 to be very good for towing.
Was picked up from the airport by my brother in law in one of these mountainous beast when I visited Canada last year from SA. Made a double cab look like a Mr. Bean Mini Cooper. Getting inside it felt like was sitting in a spacious lounge. Its like a luxury bus. Fit for purpose in the farming province of Saskatchewan, pulling water bowsers, motor home, and car carrying trailers.
Sad we don’t get the capability like the US. The Duramax 2500 can tow up to 8400kgs or 18500lbs. Ours is half that from what I gathered. But then again you don’t need a truck licence in the US. But it makes sense for people here in Australia as 99% of the population haven’t even driven one let alone seen one.
Can you please review the little dual cab's V the bigger dual cab's V Y62 & L300 V the Isuzu/Fuzo/Iveco dual cab's while towing and rate the fuel and driving ability, thanks Craig
Heres an observation: Next to no usb ports. No 12v. No sunglasses holder, Seats are cheap. Storage bins behind the seats open far too easy, so anything heavy will come out during braking. Tiny middle seat arm rest. Cheap plastic box under the back seat. You can easily lock yourself out. Mirrors are shite. HUD is blurred More alarms then the new ranger Ton of body roll. Honestly they missed an opportunity here, they did the exact stuff with the previous chev models here in aus. Just added a screen and a face lift. I do hope they added a key way to the crank, because thats gonna fail outside of the warranty. Decent driveline.tho.
Paul, the reason the Yanky trucks don't come with DAB is because America doesn't have DAB. The have gone down the satellite radio route (Sirus XM for example.).
@@rich7447 i perfer the larger bed as i currently have a long wheel base f250 late 70s model which i use for work and like to be able to fit as much as i can
Paul, you needs to cover what's in the tray with a rear net or similar, it's illegal to drive a ute having stuff inside and not covered in some way to stop stuff flying out, you will get fined and lose license points if pulled over for this, Ask me how I know !!!
Only real disappointment there is no real amenaties for the rear, yes theres are vents but no inempnednt zone could have added cooled seats to the back too. have zones for the front but the back is ma rather bland, true for all bakkies actually buy especially here as the front is so kitted out
I park something much bigger at shopping centers all the time. Once you are used to the size it is not an issue as long as you always reverse into the space.
When those trucks are built theres no posi additive. Need to either add or GM rrp said add 2 bottles and do diff service with synthetic gear oil early. So once posi lube is in no more gripes on rear posi they work good
Love the look of them, glad the interior has been updated that poxy infotainment screen on the old model looked silly. Still have nothing on my new raptor in regards to interior
