The commencement ceremony for the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell took place on Monday, May 13 at 2 p.m. at Hofstra University’s David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. David J. Skorton, president and CEO of the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC), a not-for-profit organization representing the nation’s medical schools, academic health systems, teaching hospitals, and academic societies. Dr. Skorton is known for his advocacy against systemic racism in academic medicine and efforts to address health disparities. He was honored with an honorary degree during the ceremony.
Presiding over the ceremony was Dr. David Battinelli, dean of the Zucker School of Medicine; Susan Poser, president of Hofstra University; and Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health. A total of 101 new doctors and scientists were conferred, including 91 MDs, three MD/PhDs, two MD/OMSs, three MD/MPHs, and two MD/MBAs. Members of the Class of 2024 have been matched to residencies across 21 specialty areas at institutions spanning 17 states.
