thank you, but, im confused on the % columns-138%,213%, 266%, 322% big difference in income requirements to qualify for Silver 94,87,73! if a household of 2 adults , 1 on Medicare what would be the Monthly income that keeps you OUT of MediCal? as I understand it would be above 2,352.00 Under first column !
The columns are the federal poverty level multiplied by the respective percentage for the household size. This chart is using a slightly higher federal poverty level for the orange columns. It does not make a difference how many household members are applying for health coverage (some are Medicare, employer sponsored, Medi-Cal), it is based on the tax household. For a household of 2, one on Medicare, the income needs to be greater than $2,352 for the other household member to be eligible for the subsidies.
Thank you Kevin. Not your fault, but if monthly payroll deductions, cost of living especially rent and childcare were counted everyone would qualify. Single working taxpayers still need more help. Thank you
Interestingly, most people call me to figure out how they can pad their income to stay out of Medi-Cal. Those folks don’t want more deductions that make them eligible for Medi-Cal.
The federal poverty level has 3 regions, the lower 48 states, Hawaii, and Alaska. California should be another region that has higher federal poverty levels like Hawaii and Alaska because it is so expensive to live here. They are trying to create and manage 21st century programs based in mid-20th century demographics and prices.
